Amazing Race 11 - All Stars (begins 2/18/07)

Am I the only one who remembers the original "Lost"? It premiered the same season as Amazing Race and featured complete strangers who were dropped off in the middle of nowhere (I think Mongolia) and not told where they were, only that they had to get back to the Statue of Liberty. They had to pair off with a stranger. The show lasted like 2 or 3 episodes before being cancelled. Strangers just aren't as interesting as teammates, they are usually more polite and careful. I think the stranger factor works differently if you are on a large team (like Survivor) because you get a group dynamic thing going, but one on one, not so much.

Plus, its so much more gratifying when you see teams like mothers/sons who grow closer from the race.

I'm thankful that Lost was cancelled though - I had started watching it instead of Amazing Race, but when it was cancelled I switched over to AR.

I remember it -it may have been cancelled - but they did finish the "race" and show the finale. I think the team that won was Carla and Landau(SP?)

I remember that. It was pretty bad. Their theme song was even worse. I recall one team actually decided to call it quits during the show. It was pretty boring. I saw the finale show, with the last team to go to the Statue Of Liberty. On that note, maybe a show with complete strangers would be boring. It is interesting seeing the dynamic between people who have a pre-existing relationship in a stressful situation such as the TAR.

I would like to see them switch the teams around, every other week when the team numbers are even - force teams to work together. IE Charla and Mirna with Dustin and Candace. Dustin and Charla have to go off and run the leg completely together and Mirna and Candace run the leg together. If Dustin and Charla come in last - Candace and Mirna have to finish the rest of the race together until they're eliminated. That would mean that there would be new team's every other week as the eliminations happen.

While this sounds interesting, how would they handle sleeping arrangements at the pit stops? Now each team would presumably get one room so they could rest and strategize. Would you really want your spouse sharing a room with someone of the opposite sex whom they don't know? It's not about trusting your spouse, it's about safety for each person. If they got 2 rooms, they wouldn't have the strategy time. And, heck, if you got Kandace and Mirna in a room together, imagine the cat fight that could start up. That would be off camera, so the producers couldn't even use that footage for ratings.

IMO changing things up so strangers run the race would basically make it a traveling Survivor. You get things from these folks knowing each other that you don't get on the other top reality shows.

I do agree with bringing back the Fast Forwards for every leg and actually making them challenging again.

IMO this was the worst season ever which is odd because I usually like the All-Stars format.
