Amazing Race 11 - All Stars (begins 2/18/07)

I think that this game is interesting in that even though you don't think you would be yourself in a race of that magnitude...its the real personalities that shine through.

The Cho's for example just did not have a mean spirited bone in their bodies and could not bring themselves to play dirty.

I'm sure that Jonathan and Victoria did not think thy would act the way they did on television. but the stress of the game took them (mostly him) off their best behavior.

Romber cokcy? Wouldn't be the first time people confused confident and competent with cocky.

I really liked Romber and will miss seeing them during the rest of the race. One of the few couples they have had that treated each other with respect and actually treated the experience like what it really is - a televised race for cash and prizes

As I said before, I will also miss Rob and Amber. Say what you will about the way Rob plays, but he has shown himself to be a wonderful husband. He even commented on how Eric was talking to Danielle about how she should hold her fish down, he didn't think it was very nice. I think if they have children he would be a wonderful and caring father. Obviously that is just my opinion and I base that on how he treats Amber. Yes, he may be sneaky when it comes to playing these reality games, but so what. He's there to win, not to lose. This is for a million dollars remember, not ten. I know if I was on that show, I would do whatever it takes to win, even lie. Does that make me a bad wife and mother, no. It makes me a player who wants to win.

How much room is there in this Race for manipulation by the producers?

On Surviror if a team is desimated or an allience is getting too full of itself, they shake things up. (Like they will do this week)

Do you think this race is planned start to finish before it begins? Do you think the non-elimination rounds are truly pre-determined? Or do you think there is some manipulation to make for more interesting TV...like a 9:00 Am opening that evens the playing feild? Or not eliminating a well liked team (Like Dave and Mary 2 times!)

I mentioned earlier in the thread about how I believe they cut the teams they like in the back of the pack some slack when it comes to completing challenges. Some cases have been more obviosu than others.

Add to that the questionable ways people get on planes at the last minute and you get a solid YES from me on that subject. Even if it's just to keep things interesting (keep the teams bunched together rather than favoring one team over another) it's producers clearly taking control of the race.

There was lots of speculation that the flight Romber was on to Miami on their original season was held for Uchenna and Joyce by the producers so they would actually have a race instead of Romber winning by 2 hours. The fact CBS did the whole Rob and Amber wedding special was proof for a lot of people. I'm not so sure, but I've never heard of a flight going back to the gate for anybody!

Now Uchenna and Joyce, that's a team I'd like to see go away. They're just so boring, and I don't like how they interact with each other.

I also believe the producers do step in from time to time to keep teams bunched together to make a more interesting race. I just hope it's not as much as we think.

I was sorry to see Amber and Rob go even though I am cheering for the BQ's.

What in the world makes you think we are jealous of them? Why is it so hard to understand that some of us just do not like them, period.:confused3

I'm sure I could come up with a huge list of actors, actresses, athletes... that I love that you may not. Does that mean you're jealous of them? Of course not.

I have had enough of the Rob and Amber Show.:scared: I won't watch anything that they are on unless it's a show that I normally watch. I didn't watch the wedding show or the poker show. I won't watch the we're expecting show. I won't watch the baby's on the way show...:lmao:

I TOTALLY agree with what you said! I don't understand why its hard for some to understand some people just do not like Rob and Amber. It has nothing to do with jealousy! :confused3

I never watched Survivor when they were on (I don't watch that show) I've been watching Amazing Race since Season 3, it's one of my favorite reality shows. When Rob and Amber came on Season 7, I had NO idea who they were. After seeing them race and his smuggness, I just did not like them (mainly Rob).
I didn't watch the wedding and I won't watch anything else with them on it.

I just don't see the appeal of Rob and Amber! :confused3

Its funny, how like them or not, Romber is consuming most of the posts on this thread!!
:lmao:

I for one do like them, and agree with a pp, Rob is a good husband, and will make a good father.
I am sad to see them go.

Rob is a good husband, and will make a good father.
I hope this is true, but I would have to say the jury is still out on this one. It's easy for Rob to sit on TV and say all sorts of sweet things about Amber, and how blessed they are, when he's had time to calm down, but you could see the stress and frustration on his face through most of the last episode.

The way they met, and are living their life, isn't much different from the way most Hollywood couples meet. It's easy to bond under the stress of shooting a movie, or in their case trying to win a million dollars. It could be a whole different ball game when the cameras finally stop rolling (and they will). I wish them all the best when that time comes, but I'm not ready to hand Rob the Husband/Father of the Year award yet ;)

I totally agree! U & J do nothing for me and the whole flight from their original season being brought back is an topic that has been talked about to death, but it does seem obvious that the producers had something to do with it. And (haven't read all the posts so I don't know if this has been brought up yet) when Rob and Amber were telling how they tricked charla and mirna and were laughing about it, U&J were laughing right along with everyone else and then they turned around and were hugging C&M at the finish line, they can be just as fake and conniving as Romber.

Romber cokcy? Wouldn't be the first time people confused confident and competent with cocky.

I really liked Romber and agree that they weren't cokcy, they were just good racers and made the show interesting. I probably won't be so into the show now that they're gone and will watch it if there's nothing else on, but won't make it a priority.

Honestly people get stressed and frustrated in normal everyday events, I can't imagine the amount of stress they would be under on the race so it's understandable to be frustrated. I don't think that getting a little worked up in situations makes someone a bad father or husband. I think it also has something to do with how you grow up/brought up, I've grown up in the next town over from Rob and people around here become very passionate about things so the frustration and things he says don't seem out of line to me or his actions out of the ordinary. Don't know if I explained that as well as I could have but oh well :confused3

I understand what you are saying :)

My question is whether or not they can live a normal life when their 15 minutes is finally over and life slows down for them. They basically met as celebrities, and sadly we know how most of those relationships turn out. Some people take an "Awwww... he says such sweet things about Amber therfore it's a match made in heaven" approach. Newsflash... all celebs talk like that about their spouses/SOs to the media until the start of divorce proceedings. I guess only time will tell.

The point I'm trying to make about his frustration during this leg is that it seemed to start as soon as they fell behind and seemed to dog him the whole leg. It was almost like once he realized they couldn't come in first, he stopped trying. It was kind of ironic because at the end of the third leg he told Phil that the only time coming in first really mattered was on the last leg. I just have to wonder if he will give up that easy in real life when the going gets tough.

but what does any of that have to do with him being a good or bad father.....I hate to lose myself....hate it....I get down when i lose, sulk a bit then I am good to go....I have 2 great kids....very involved in sports, church and school...and decent manners for a 6 and 10 year old....I dont believe how you act in a game is gonna determine your fate as a parent

I think Amber and Rob probably live a more normal life than you think. Sure, they are reality show professionals, but we aren't reading about them in People magazine every week, or the National Enquirer! Lots of reality show contestants have spun off career opportunities from their 15 mins of fame. Colby (from Survivor) is an actor., Ethan and Jenna do appearances and public speaking. Uchenna & Joyce are motivational speakers. Several of the participants on Fear Factor, Amazing Race, and Survivor are actors and/or models. Remember the brothers on TAR a couple of years ago? One was an actor (I think the other was a bartender) and I think at least one of them had already been on Fear Factor before they got to TAR. One was named Brian, don't remember the other guy. I think they were on the same season as Romber.

Point is, alot of these participants go on these shows to get "discovered" or to help their career. Rob and Amber are just more successful at it than some of the others.

I agree. I live very close to Rob's hometown of Canton, MA and have seen them both out and about on a few occasions. They were doing normal, every day stuff, getting icecream, going to the gym, eating in a pretty casual restaurant, etc.

I think Rob's cockiness is part of his shtick. He knows that what he's known for, so he plays it up a little. In reality, I think they've both remained pretty down to earth from what I can see.

That is one reason why I no longer care for U & J. In their first AR, they were portrayed as being so upset over fertility problems and then they had the one leg at that orphanage, I think in Africa, and they were so overcome w/ emotion. (hope I'm remembering this correctly, although I'm sure someone will set me straight if not).

Then they win, come back to the US, and the first time I see them, Joyce is trying to revive her "acting career". I've been put off with them ever since.

That is one reason I always liked Rombar, they are right up front with what they want, and what they'll do to get it. I hated to see them go as well.
