I'm just not ready to celebrate Christmas this early. Since my ds has grown up and left home Christmas just isn't any fun for me.

I think I need some grandchildren or something. I don't want to think about Christmas before Thanksgiving :(

I've said it before kath my boys could use another Grandma. You can't have to many people to love!

I like to get through Thanksgiving before celebrating Christmas. I figure it's only a matter of time until they merge the two into Chrisgiving.......or Thanksmas :teeth:

Kath I swear I was about to post just this same type of thread today. I am not a big Christmas person. My mom died 10 days before Christmas and that was her holiday... her thing to do and decorate for. Ever since she died almost 9 years ago, I just can't get into it at all. I do have my good moods where I get into the decorating but compared to what I used to do when she was alive... it just isn't there for me. So I am more than happy to wait until after my trip to really begin to celebrate. Then again my tree might go up before then because I just don't know if I'll have it in me to put it up after I get back.

I like Christmas......in mid December. With the exception of shopping, I don't do anything about it til then. And these days, even the shopping is later and later.

I actually think it's sad that for alot of people Christmas ends by New Years. We grew up celebrating Epiphany. No one seems to leave their trees or decorations up til then anymore. That's the Christmas season to me.....not now.

I've noticed the same thing around here... the day after Christmas people rip their decorations down. If I do anything with Christmas, I celebrate it through the end and the true 12 days of Christmas!

Well, we've got Chaunkah right after Thanksgiving (DW , DD and DS are Jewish) then a few weeks until Chrstmas (since I'm Catholic).

I'm still working off Halloween.

Bah Humbug!

Hey Grandma Kath, I'll send my 2 kids out to you if it will help you feel like Christmas ;) :teeth:

You are fibbing, Debbie, but you know I would love to have a couple of little kids to spoil.

Thanks for Posting this, as I agree with you. My mom died 6 years ago, and BOTH my kids are out of the house, so I said NO CHRISTMAS this YEAR!  I avoid the Posts that talk about Xmas.

Y'all who are sad can come to my house, I have little kids and I throw a great Christmas Open House every year. And DH makes a mean eggnog! :)

Seriously, I have some sadness at Christmas with my parents being gone now. I miss them during the Holidays especially. But I believe family is what you make of it, and try to get together with the ones I love - whether they be family by blood or through the heart. Its a very loving season for me, and I try and make it last as long as it possibly can.

Until my children are gone, (they are 8 and 12) I will have to celebrate Christmas. After that...NO!!! I just don't enjoy it anymore. We will be in Disney World for Christmas this year, and I am thrilled. I won't have to decorate, clean the house a million times, cook, or pretend to enjoy the company of some members of my family. No, I just don't like the holiday season anymore. I am trying to find a way out of Thanksgiving, too. :(

It's great now that I've moved away... I just tell my family I can't come home for the holidays. Yea! My plans are to mail out some cards and gifts, and the rest of my Christmas experience will have to come from the decorations/events at WDW.

I'm going to start making an annual trip back home during Mardi Gras instead. THAT I can get into... no stress of gifts and decorations and meals with people you don't even like.

Aww Kath...{{hugs}} You're right....a few G-babies will change things!!!

Here are my 2 offers...1. borrow my girls to spoil for awhile....or 2. Ive got a great SIL for your son to meet :)

kath I am a big believer in celebrating Halloween in October, Thanksgiving in November and Christmas in December.

You can come visit me at my son's house - I'll share my grandson with you :D

Christmas gets earlier and earlier every year
it's now before halloween

jldriscoll-I like that SIL idea :teeth: I might have to borrow your girls too :)

Jipsy, that is a generous offer, you are so blessed to have a grandbaby.

I like to wait, too, til the turkey is gone on Thanksgiving Day!! :D

As you know, I still have boys at home, Kath, but it's not the same as when they were little and Mike and I were running all over the place finding the prefect toys! Now their one or two toys cost a small fortune!

We lost my grandma last year and her birthday was Christmas Day so that part will be a bummer.

{{{{{HUGS}}}} to all of you that have lost loved ones during the Christmas season.:(

I think lots of folks don't like Christmas because they feel "put upon" - like they're responsible for everyone elses happiness and their OWN happiness gets lost in the shuffle.. I mean let's face it.. Who does all the cleaning, cooking, decorating, gift buying, gift wrapping, and cleaning up once it's all over?? In my house it was always me.. Notice I said "was"..

A few years back I was very depressed at Christmas time and decided I was no longer going to go through all of the hassles simply because it was "expected" of me.. I cleaned only what was at eye level and what I FELT like cleaning; put out very few decorations; whacked a whole bunch of people off my gift-giving list; cancelled the Christmas Eve party for 35+ that was ALWAYS held at our house; didn't bake one single solitary cookie (let alone the hundreds that I had been doing for years and years); refused all invitations to places I really didn't want to go; and cancelled Christmas dinner.......

It was my BEST Christmas ever!!!!! ;)

Ever since then I approach Christmas with a "what do I feel like doing this year" mind set.. If I want to do all of it, I do.. If I want to do some of it, I do.. And if I don't want to do any of it, I don't ...

Christmases are so much nicer now because I'm deciding for MYSELF what I want to do - not letting others decide FOR me..

Try it.. I guarantee your Christmases will be a lot less stressful and you'll find yourself truly enjoying them - for probably the first time ever!!!!
