ALOHA! The Polynesian Resort Information Thread: Summer 2011 Edition!

Don't kill me for asking this!!!! But, I read somewhere that the AC units are on a motion detector??? So, during the night if there is no movement, it goes off so you get hot until you get up and activate it??? Is this true or just one of those silly rumors? :confused3

Another ceiling fan user here. But, I do have a vague memory of reading that fact about a resort, maybe it was Poly maybe not. Anyway, there was a suggestion to purchase a balloon and tie it near the AC at night so that it stays on.

HTH a little :goodvibes

Congrats on your switch. I think you will  the Poly!

Would the ceiling fan be enough to keep you cool (in JULY)??? and I wonder if the ceiling fan would keep the a/c on, b/c it moves??? good thought about the balloon though, I know we will definitely be buying at least one of those!

Well - its official - I am back on the Poly train!!!:banana::banana: no matter how much I try to convince myself I don't want to stay here....the Poly allure is stronger!!!! I hope I love it!!! :lovestruc
:dance3:
The RC Poly Parade is back on!
Sure is!!! :grouphug:

Me too. Have dreamed of staying here forever. I got a huge contract and just completed it on my side business so this is my reward to myself. So excited. Is that wrong for a 43 year old man? LOL
My 14 year old DS is as excited as I am of course. The rest of the family is starting to grumble about them not getting to go but I just remind them THEY were the ones who decided to LEAVE EARLY from Disney in July.

I do have one question, how ECV friendly is the Poly? I have had 2 knee replacements on the same knee and lets just say I can walk about 30 minutes and I am done so I have started using an ECV when in parks.

:woohoo:
My DH LOVES the Poly!!! I was in a wheelchair our last trip. We requested (and were granted) a 1st floor room, it was PERFECT! No issues whatsoever! We only needed the elevator at GCH and it wasn't a biggie...JMHO. I think you'll be at the perfect place with an ECV, the monorails are very easy to navigate compared with the buses :thumbsup2
I am going to price out the Poly for a 3 or 4 day trip for F&W or Christmas, hopefully book a BB and telling DH that is my Christmas present for next year...what ya think??? So he does not like the Poly but I have been thinking it would be very convenient for the simple fact of walking to TTC for the Epcot monorail and since it will be my Christmas present he can't say no right? I have the Poly bug bad :rotfl:

I think its a fantastic Christmas present...fingers crossed for the BB:yay:

yikes ~ my husband is going to have a fit if the ac turns of during the night. He is so hot natured, he keeps the a/c on 65 in our bedroom even in the winter!

so, here is a silly question ~ but if the balloon tip works, where exatly do you tie it? I mean, near the a/c vent or near the actual a/c unit that turns it on and off?

Yeah I need to know this also.

I never had a problem with our AC turning off. In fact I would make the room so cold that I often had to get up in the middle of the night and raise the temp.

See I have a question, I like to set the temp to what we feel comfortable, and being a normal POR guest, the mousekeeping comes in during the day and turns it off. Now at the POLY I get it is automatic? If so how can I get it to stay on all day and the Mousekeeping to not mess with it?

I meant that the movement of the fan keeps the AC unit on, if indeed it is motion sensed. I do remember that one trip I kept waking up and pressing the button to get it cooler. Not sure if I was just a hot momma or if it was just turning itself off.

Anyone know for sure yet?

Personally, I would leave a handwritten note for mousekeeping asking them to please keep the a/c on with a dollar!!! :thumbsup2

I really wish I knew for sure about the AC. I do know we've never woken up or returned to a hot room, so either the motion of the fan kept the AC on, or it isn't on a motion sensor at all. If nothing else I can check it out in.... 5 days :banana::banana: and report back with my findings!

I would take a balloon with you to either tape or attach it somehow near the sensor. I am still waiting on hearing about the particulars of the "how to" on this operation.

Hey Venomhatch - you seem to have some "connections" at the Poly - why not just call and ask someone?

:)

Here are the instructions I was given to override the AC at Disney Resorts:

push "power" and "down arrow" at the same time to bypass, it may flash "BP"

This will bypass the motion sensor for 48 hours, so you need to re-do it every 2 days.

This info is about 4-5 years old so possibly it's no longer valid, but I thought I'd share!

Well besides that TaraPA just posted the how to bypass it. I may not need to. But I am about to call my friend there and ask her about if they rent Microwaves?
