All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

We'll be heading for ASMu on December 5th for the second time.. :wizard:
We're 9, Family #1, that will be us :dance3:, will be staying in Prefered, because Family #2 will be staying at a suite. I wanted to be near them, and I read that the Suites are located either at Jazz or at Calypso. In our last trip we stayed at Country Inn, even though I requested Jazz (wait, I'm heading somewhere :rotfl:) and though I was angry at first, we liked being on the quiet side.
Now, I wanted to be in Jazz with F#2, but I found out that Jazz is not prefered, so that means I wll be staying on Calypso, which is not exactly what I wanted.
Soo the question is (finally!), if I stay with prefered, would both families will be on Calypso? If I don't and choose standard, will Disney try to put me as close as family #2 on Jazz???

soaringirl,
Preferred Rooms are only those in the Calypso buildings. There are Family Suites in the Jazz buildings and I believe there are some in the Calypso buildings as well. Perhaps you could request that your room and Family 2's suite be close to each other. I requested to be placed in Jazz Inn last year, and indeed we were assigned a room there! Hopefully, this will be the case this year as well. But if we get assigned to another building, I suppose I wouldn't complain too much. The walk will probably do us good!

Sorry! Couldn't get the movie schedule. We ran (I mean that literally) late for Magical Express back to MCO (I'm there now). What I do remember is Chihuahua, Bolt (on Monday I believe), Finding Nemo and Bedtime Stories.

Thanks Dazed! Yes, the walk was good, but my kids and their cousins want to be together. I'll call and see what's best for us!

I didn't see the whole schedule but Wednesday night at 9pm was Beverly Hill Chiauhaua (I can't spell that of course).

We were there too and that was the night they let everyone vote. I forget what the other 2 choices were but that was the one that most people voted for. Friday night they showed Hannah Montana!

I believe Thursday's movie was Escape to Witch Mountain (or was it Return to Witch Mountain?) - anyway, it was the one with The Rock. Is is just me or were the movies really really loud?

The other choices for Wednesday were The Incredibles and Wall-E...I can't believe Beverly Hills Chiuahuah won!!!

I can't either! One of my sons voted for The Incredibles and the other voted for Wall-E. When they voted, the score was way ahead for The Incredibles. How BH Chihauhua won I'll never know :rotfl:

We are heading south for our annual halloween pilgrimage to Disneyworld. This is our first stay at music. Does anyone know if they have anything special planned for the kids on halloween? We are doing the halloween party at MK but I want some resort fun as well.

Hi!
We came back Sunday from 10 fabulous nights at ASMu. We were taking things much easier this time and, finally, enjoyed a trip with lots of evening down time at the resort. Which meant that we pretty much managed the whole movie schedule during our stay. Everything was great......EXCEPT.....did anybody else notice the traumatized look on some of the kids (not to mention the adults) while watching the film 'Earth'?
Yes, a fantastic NATURE documentary. NOT necessarily a good idea for an entertaining night of fun at a resort filled with children. I'm sorry to say but I was actually shocked that this movie was played. No need for kids to have to watch animals be killed by prey and drown on melting icefields due to starvation and exhaustion. It was horrible! :sad1: The look on some of those kids faces was just heartbreaking.
We're so far from being 'stick-in-the-mud' types but even our 13 year old son thought that it was a really bad idea. He hated it. Yes, I know, I know...if people didn't like it, they didn't have to watch. Understood, But I do have to say there were FAR less chairs set up that night and the mood was just somber. Far cry from, say, when 'Finding Nemo' was the movie of the night.

i just got back from 11 nights at ASMu ... my second stay there and i had a fab time as always! :goodvibes YES, the kids were traumatized by earth! LOL by the end of the film , there were only adults watching (myself included!) i especially enjoyed bolt and now want to purchase the dvd! :thumbsup2 wishing i was there tonite for hannah montana! :wizard:

Oh...I know exactly what you mean! :guilty: It's so horrible to be sitting here, constantly thinking things like "this time, last week, we were watching a movie from the swimming pool" or, even worse: "this time, last week, somebody ELSE was cooking our dinner"!!!!! :headache:

:snooty: I miss my maids and cooks and drivers!!!

:rotfl:

I agree that the movie was not appropriate for young children and not for vacationing folks who might be hunting for a bit of respite from the everyday world. I want fantasy when I am at Disney. :goodvibes

I am looking forward to my visit to Music in December. Have not been there in many years but am thrilled to hear so many good reports.

The best thing about vacation is that someone else makes my bed, cooks my food and drives me around. I get to live like my husband does every single day. Two weeks is not enough!

hi guys,

I'm considering a trip the second week of January and I found a great rate for ASMU (at least I think so...3 nights w 4 day park hopper for $645...is that good?) I've never booked a disney trip myself and I've also never stayed at a value. My mom has always paid so its been moderates and deluxe and villas for me in the past. But I'd be going in January by myself...will I be okay at ASMU?
Ladies, do you feel safe when you're there walking alone? Would it be weird for me to be at the pool by myself?
Please sell me on ASMU! It seems like the nicest of the values and of course I'd always rather be in Disney!
Thanks dears!
xoxo

Hmmm.... maybe. Just looking here on the DIS, I saw 2009 room rates for Jan 1-15 at $82/night. A 4 day park hopper is $277. If you bought them seperately the total would be $605 plus tax which would be $641.30. There may be discounts announced for January at a later date, but for now your $645 price looks okay. If you booked it as a package then you've got a few extra little perks as well.

As for your other questions. I can't speak to your safety threshold of course but I always saw CMs around no matter what time I was walking. At 6am there were cleaning/maintenance staff around as well as throughout the day. The grounds are also well lit. I also saw several people of both sexes at the pool by themselves (reading, tanning, whatever) and never gave them a second thought until now. Hope that helps! :goodvibes
