All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

Just found this thread. Thanks to all for the info. We're booked at a family suite in Sept. 2009. It's me, DH, DM, DS18, DS7 & DD4. Should I keep this suite or go for 2 rooms at ASMo? I'm concerned about having to put the couch, chairs up & down everyday to sleep. :headache: We've stayed at ASMo before & POP & loved ASMo.

I'd stay with the suites - don't forget the kitchenette which you would lose if you switched to 2 individual rooms. I've had friends stay in the family suites and say that everything is comfortable to sleep on & pretty much a non-issue to restore them to sleeping position if housekeeping makes them up again. :cutie:

I would say the benefit of the suite is having a living room area to relax in, especially if your little one needs to nap during the day. Much better to put him in the bedroom and close the door, while you put your feet up and watch TV, rather than having to sit on a bed or at the chair and table. Plus the kitchenette is also a great benefit with 2 young ones! Have a wonderful trip.

with the 2 rooms if you wanted a refrigerator you would have to pay extra for it, plus I think if you book 2 rooms I don't think they are guarantee'd to be connecting.

Just got back yesterday. We stayed in the Broadway section.
The food court rehab was still going on. When we arrived on the 16th, the arcade and part of the beverage station was blocked off. Thursday there was a tent set up over the outside eating area and the arcade was open and the hallway and the seating by the hallway was blocked so you could not walk through the building. From the bus stops you had to walk around the building.
There was a hair dryer in the room as well as an iron and ironing board. We received new soap and shampoo every day.
We didn't have a privacy curtain.
I'd be happy to answer any questions

How long of a walk was it for you to get to the main building for food and buses?
Not that I am going to change anything, but how were the buses?
Thanks for your information. Peg

It probably took 10 minutes. But it was usually raining so we walked by the actual buildings so we could be under cover
It was quicker to go to the back of the 1st Calypso building and follow the sidewalk around the parking lot. It was more direct, you didn't have to walk around the guitar pool or through the fountain area. But that way is not under cover

We will be staying in a standard room this October and I am wandering if I should make a room request. And if so how and when do I do that.:confused3

It will be myself, my wife, my daughter (4) and son (1). We want to be near areas for the kids to be active (pool or play ground) and also close to the food and transportation. (I guess everyone probaly wants this)
Based on peoples experiences, Where should I request to stay at.

Thanks in advance

We have a Family suite for the end of this week... are those located in the Calypso and Jazz buildings?

wilson717,

According to the AS Music map, the buildings closest to the pools are the Calypso and Jazz Inn. But I believe rooms at the Calypso are considered 'Preferred'. I plan on requesting a room at the Jazz Inn. Hopefully, the Pop Warner kids will not misbehave while I'm there!! Wish me luck!!

We just returned from a stay at ASMu on Saturday 8/23. We had room 633 in Calypso. It was a great room, on a corner on the other side of the pool- VERy quiet, except you could hear the shower and toilet flushing in the next room. I did think it was pretty obnoxious that they blocked off the interior walkway through the cafe to the lobby and the buses DURING A TROPICAL STORM!!! Earlier in the week (when it was dry) there was access, but couldn't they have waited a couple of days before blocking the access? Buses for the most part were prompt and efficient, but one morning we had a 7:30 breakfast reservation at the Kona, and the bus to MK took 40 minutes to arrive. In retrospect, should have complained to the front desk, but nobody wanted to go in and risk missing the bus.

I'm sure this has been answered, but confirm...they do have shampoo, conditioner and a blow dryer correct?

I have question about your early morning bus...

We also have a couple of early morning ressies at the Poly and at the MK. Were the busses running that early to get us there by that time (7:30am)?? I have been hearing conflicting reports about it. Thanks so much!

DH & I had a standard room in the Jazz bldg in January. It was close to the parking lot, and on the back side of the building wing was a small children's playground. It was a real quick walk to the pool & food court. We were on the ground floor near some of the family suites. :cutie:

Thanks for everyones input.

How and when do I make a room request? I think I want Jazz.

You can call and have it added to your reservation. If they don't give you a room in Jazz, you can ask at checkin. We were given a room quite a distance in May and I asked if there was something closer and they put us in Jazz. I guess it all depends on what is available when you checkin.

We actually had several early morning ressi in addition to the Kona- 7:30 at Cape May, Boma at the AKL at 7:30, Tusker House at 8 and Chef Mickey's at 7. No problem with the Animal Kingdom bus for the TH. My DS(10) was sick during the trip, so we ended up taking taxis for his comfort on the other mornings, especially since they were resort to resort. Cape May/Beach Club was 12 plus tip, AKL was 8 plus tip and Contemporary was around 12 or so. I got conflicting info on early buses from a bus driver and a CM (the same CM actually gave me two different times when I asked about my Chef Mickey res- he said buses run at 7 then he told me if I was out at the stop by 6:30 I should get there in time).

The morning the MK bus took 40 min to arrive we did see two HS Studio Buses and 2 AK buses come by between 7 and 7:30. No early morning hours at any of the parks that morning.

Hope this helps a little. BTW- the folks at the Kona seated us quickly and cheerfully, even though we were an hour late and two people fewer than planned- my DS stayed behind that day to recover with my DH.

What times were park openings those days with bus service starting so early? I thought the bus started an hour before park opening?:confused3 I'm a little concerned about making it to a 9am Princess Storybook Breakfast in Epcot one day of our trip.
