All Inclusive Question

Thanks so much for everyone's replies/suggestions! I spent a ton of time yesterday reseaching the resorts listed. I love the idea of the Catalonia! Now I need to check out Couples Tower Isle in Jamaica.

By the way, it will just be DH and myself going. DD19 is in college now and will be doing her own travelling this year :cool1:

From your info I would say the Catalonia would be perfect for you. It's not one of those all inclusives that is packed with tourists and you don't have to get all dressed up to go to dinner. If you do go there, you could take a day trip to Akumal which is 10 minutes away and swim with some sea turtles.

I just received a tip sheet from someone for CRT and it has links to a lot of pictures and other items. If you are interested in seeing it PM me.

BTW, in addition to reading the tripadvisor forums on your various options, Couples maintains a message board on their website and the monthly photo contest entries are an awesome way to see some guest pictures of the resort. Also, be sure to do a google images search for any resort that you are considering. Enjoy the research and selection process!

Don't limit yourself to just Apple Vacations. Try www.cheapcaribbean.com to see if they can beat Apple's price. So far, I've used Cheap Caribbean 3 times and Apple couldn't touch its price.

The nicest resort we've stayed at was the Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana. My sister stayed at the Paradisus Punta Cana and said that was lovely, too. The PPR felt like it was a 5-star place even though it only has 4-stars.

UnfortunatelIy, Cheap Caribbean doesn't offer packages to Catalonia Royal Tulum...and I think we've pretty much settled on this resort for our vacation. I just contacted Expedia, and they are offering the vacation for $200 less than Apple Vacations. Anyone has experience with Expedia?

Expedia, Orbitz and Travelocity are all good travel providers. You won't be sorry that you've chosen to go through one of them.

Interesting about Cheap Caribbean. I like the extras they throw onto their packages. One year, it was free travel insurance. That was the year that AA decided to cancel our flight and we were in Miami the night of our departure instead of Punta Cana. Additionally, AA lost one of our bags and completely destroyed it. I'm talking duct tape to hold it together on the way home. The insurance paid for all of our incidentals and for a new bag. The timing was right on that free add-on.

Run a search through www.kayak.com and one through www.sidekick.com to see if one of those search engines can find an even better price for you since they check a number of travel sites at the same time.

We are staying at the Catalonia in May and we booked through expedia. Our friends are staying over 6 days and they booked with orbitz and I guess there is a code for over 6 days and they will give you $200.00 off.

I booked CRT through Locogringo, but booked the flights myself. Just a little bit more money, but I wanted non-stop flights. I know that last year when we went to Akumal during the swine flu, Locogringo was able to transfer the rest of the people at our resort to CRT because ABR was shutting down due to low occupancy. We left the day before they shut down, but the people that had booked with Apple and other agencies had no clue what was going on. Those people were really in a bind trying to get another hotel. I usually book our vacations myself since I do alot of research. I suppose if I was to try another it would be Expedia.
