Okay, should I really be concerned about AKL-Kidani having traffic jams? Which is better; the bus or your own car?:confused3

I don't know what you are referring to. We were there this past January (Kidani) and there was rarely another car around to be seen except in the parking lot.

At the AKL-Kidani fact thread this is mentioned as a problem This concerns me, but now after reading your post I'm wondering if this is determined by the season. You know slow vs. busy.

Yes, we were there in the slow season, but I'm not kidding when I say I only saw another vehicle MOVING in the driveway or parking ramp maybe two times in the 3 days we were there. Of course, there were cars in the lot/garage, but there was never anyone leaving/coming when we were there. We were the only car under the portico when we arrived for about 30 minutes and we rarely saw another soul in the garage.

I'll have to go see what people are referring to, because it's hard for me to imagine what kind of traffic jam there could even be there.

We stayed at AKL and never saw cars in the driveway or had to wait for anyone. That said, while we had actually rented a car, by the third day, we just started taking the bus. It was just nicer not to have to worry about driving, parking, riding the parking lot trolly, having to get on the monorail or boat for MK, etc. The rental car sat in the AKL parking lot, untouched, for the last 5 days of our stay. Next time, we are definitely going to use Magical Express and just rely on Disney transportation the whole time.

I hope not because I'm planning to rent a car when we go.:scared1:

The one time we rented a car it sat in the resort parking lot the whole time we were there. The buses are great! I really don't understand all the people who go to the trouble of driving when they don't have to. Unless it is the stroller issue, but even then we have taken the bus.

We long ago gave up on the frustrations of the Disney Bus system. We always have a car.....far faster, our happy little rental car is NEVER crowded....or late.....or too cold or too hot. It's the fastest way anywhere on property and always convenient to our schedule.

We were a Kidani in May.....wide open parking at Kidani and Jambo...rarely saw many cars driving to or from the resort.

I would say......what the heck, rent away!

:confused3

We were there over Thanksgiving this past year to check out Kidani and the new pool and the only other cars we saw were either parked under the garage or unloading/loading in the circle entry. And even there, there were only 1-2 at a time at most (unloading/loading).

We didn't pass any cars coming or going into the resort...just a bus.

Same here. We always have to have a car, it's much easier with a 2 and 4 year old and a double stroller (unless we spend the whole week at BLT). We were at Kidani over July 4th week and we never had any issues with traffic in the parking lot. Sometimes we had to park a little far away from our elevator, but we always had a spot.

The only time we saw any traffic problems at all in all of Disney was during the marathon. Otherwise, we practically had the roads to ourselves. This was in January.

Us too. Total waste of money renting a car because we used the bus system pretty much our entire trip. We took the car twice....once to a very early morning ADR to Epcot and once to DTD. Other than that, it sat in the parking lot.

Yep, count me in as a bus groupie :hippie:! We tried taking our van everywhere and I cannot see where it saves any time. First off, you have to corectly navigate to the park you are going to! Then you have to find a parking spot (while the bus drops you off closer to the rope). Then you have to remember where you parked, get on a tram. Then you are dropped off next to where the bus would have dropped you off. And when you come back out, you have to get in a scalding hot car (a previous poster said that their little rent a car was never ever too hot or too cold. yeah right, the thing has been sitting on concrete with the sun beating down on it all friggin day). Then when you get back to your hotel, you have to find a close spot to park. I plan accordingly, get to the busstop, get on the bus where the temperature is constant all day, get off bus when I get to the place I am going. Drink what I want while I am there, and retrace when I am ready too! I have stayed everywhere and if you relax and let it be a vacation, the bus system is very good. Sure there will be abnormalities, but patience is a virtue. Only place that I use the van is to go to the waterparks or shopping or an ADR in another hotel. Love the buses!

I rent so I can go offsite and do things when I want. On way into parks we always buy bottled water, Orange juice, fresh cream for coffee fresh ground coffee and fruit and some small snacks for our room. I also don't carry tons of stuff with me I stop in cvs and pick up what we will need for the next 2 weeks and I'm done with it. I do like to go to the outlets and I like to do stuff like go to gator-land and other places. Honestly I like having a car and its a personal choice the same way some people love Disney Buses. Plus I can store stuff in the car if I go to a waterpark in the morning and we decide to go to another park later I don't have to shlep back to resort to drop stuff off we can sower and change in waterpark and then just keep going.

I like the bus.

It's so nice at the end of the day when you are tired and someone else is driving you where you need to go.

Slow times usually mean less crowded buses too. At least that was our experience. Always a seat.
