AKL LITE II - We're #2, but we try harder....

Yeah, it was ridiculous! Just Ben and me...I think it was like $90! I need to stay away until Phil comes to town! I can't afford myself LOL.

Yes, my ticker! Woo hoo! This was originally a business trip for Phil, and we were to join him. Well, business cancelled, so we're going anyway. It's Ben's school break, and we're really psyched.

We are starting out three nights at The Grand Californian, doing Disneyland and CA Adventure. Possibly having an "in" at Club 33 (really excited about that...hope it comes through), and then two nights mid San Diego (San Diego Zoo, some shopping, USS Midway, and anything else that looks good), then we check into The Hotel Del Coronado for two nights. We are having Easter Brunch at The Crown Room at the Del, which I hear is "over the top." Can't wait. This was an unexpected trip, and we are very excited.

Sounds like a great trip, have fun!! :goodvibes I'd be interested to hear what DCA is liek at the moment. I have this convoluted plan on how to transform my DBF into a Disney fan by doing a big California trip including of course a brief stop at DL since this is really part of Californian history. Of course once he is there he must see that it is a fantastic place. :goodvibes But I am not sure this impression will be spoilt by DCA's appearance at the moment...

You will love it all! Luckily for me my business occasionally sends me winging westward and Bob sometimes joins me. We have spent time in the San Diego area, including La Jolla. There is an oceanographic institute there (the name escapes... SCRIPPS!) and also check out the seals on the beaches in the area and try to get a reservation for lunch or dinner at George's at the Cove! And the Del... WOW (eat out on their back "deck" one afternoon for lunch). We have driven the PCH down to Laguna and stopped at some of the Missions that are still standing.

The last extended trip was a drive from LA up through Sequoia NP to Monterey, Big Sur and down through Paso Robles for winery tours and then Santa Barbara and finally three nights at The Grand Californian. It was so much fun. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we have! :goodvibes

[Excerpt from frazzle's live blog...]

"I must say, yesterday must have been my least favorite (actually...second least-favorite) day down here on the CP. I got to work a little bit early because I had heard news that there was a "high profile VIP guest" staying with us as DAKL, so naturally I was really intrigued. After I had gotten done putting my cr*p in my locker, I rode the elevator up to the 3rd floor/lobby and a woman who rode it with me was like "have you seen her?". Not having a clue who 'she' was, I asked, and this lady told me Britney Spears. BRITNEY EFFING SPEARS! I momentarily freaked out for a quick second and made sure to scan the lobby for blondes. No such luck. Scrambled down the stairs to Zawadi to find out that she bought a ton of stuff yesterday morning! I was so excited lol. She booked the WHOLE 4th floor so we really didn't have many guests coming down, the store was pretty dead. My coworker and fellow CP Kannie and I kept walking out to the lobby to try and coax guests into Zawadi to keep us from going nuts, but our real agenda was to look for Britney! Security was everywhere and they wouldn't let anyone near the hotel who wasn't working, staying there, or had a dinner reservation at one of the restaurants. Around 1pm the store was getting busy so I had to do some register work until 2:00pm when I left. And as I was walking out of the lobby there she was. Britney Spears. No less than 20 feet in front of me with 4 bodyguards. My day was made :)."

Now that would be cool (and I'm not really a Britney fan). I do love Zawadi, so working there would be dangerous for me -- I'd buy everything too.

That sounds like so much fun! And, how fun to maybe get to go to Club 33 That would be wicked cool!!

AlohaPolynesian – can’t wait for your pictures!

Elin, thanks for the tips! I am on one of the other boards (DL, of course) and getting my head filled with all sorts of ideas. I think we have the lunch and dinner plans squared away (of course, we do!!! We wouldn't have it any other way!), except for waiting to see if we get past the "velvet rope," i.e., Club 33! San Diego looks very cool. I can't wait for that too. We need to keep Benjamin and ourselves happy and simbiotic, so it looks like there is plenty to do for all of us.

Wow, your trip through Sequoia NP and up the PCH sounds like it was great. I've been up that neck of the woods on my last trip back in 98. My ex-husband, who was a satellite engineer with CNN, got a call to cover Frank Sinatra's funeral, so I came with him. We went to Beverly Hills, and out to Palm Springs, then took some personal time and drove up the coast. The first trip for me was back in 1981. I drove from SF all the way down the coast through Carmel and Big Sur. Absolutely breathtaking.

Hey! Just got back from an AWESOME first stay at AKL! I'll be sure to post photos once I get back to school and have access to my computer. I LOVED IT!

I can't wait! I'm glad you had a great stay. Tell us all about it!

I'm counting down my 40 days to AKL too! :goodvibes And not patiently!

Love those pictures, johnsonet! I can't believe how much the topiaries have filled out in just a couple weeks.

Thanks! That's cool that you can see a big difference! We really laughed and laughed over Pumbaa's "mane" :rotfl:

Oh, my gosh...I didn't even realize that was her "mane." I thought it was a plant in the background.:goodvibes It is funny!:rotfl:

Elin ~
Love those pix - 'specially the one of 'Mecca' ;) ! Thanks for sharing...:thumbsup2

Okay, clue me in...what is wrong with CA Adventure right now?! Eek!

I just have to share this with you all. The new Super Target opened on 192 West, and I tried it out. Great for people staying in the Villas who need to go grocery shopping, etc.

But the greatest thing about shopping there is when I leave, I get a wonderful glimpse of THE LODGE!!!!! :thumbsup2:cool1::worship:

Ooooh . . . a new Target! Where exactly is it? Thanks!

Club 33 is a private club with the entrance door (as shown in the photo) right by the entrance to the Blue Bayou. To get in, you need a reservation (meaning you need to know a member or be one yourself). We haven't ever been in there.:sad2:

Gorgeous photos of Big Sur!!!! We were there for a family wedding last fall -- isn't it just unbelievably amazing? Sorry you had the fog -- it happens alot around there. We go to Monterey & Carmel all the time for daytrips and never get tired of it.:)
