A 24-year-old African elephant died last week at Disney's Animal Kingdom after a brief illness. Tumpe, a female brought in 2007 from a zoo in South Carolina, died after suffering from skin sores and gastrointestinal problems for two months. Disney experts believe the problem was isolated and the rest of the herd is safe. There are still 12 elephants in the park.

This makes me so sad :sad1: I'm sure they took the best care of her that they could

...me too...:sad1:

Poor thing. I hope she didn't suffer too much :sad2: It upsets me that she was only brought to WDW in 2007. They shouldn't have moved her maybe... I like to think of these animals as happy and well-taken-care of..it's sort of distressing, isn't it?

Kimmar, on a happier note, I have followed links this afternoon to two of your (not-yet-completed ;)) TRs (2006 and 2007) and have often found myself roaring w/ laughter :rotfl: You're WILD!!

Ummm...what do you mean? I can see the "That's it! The absolutely, positively...", so I knew that must be a TR and then somewhere, maybe somewhere at the beginning of this whole thread??, you posted something funny with a disboards link that went to your newer TR... Hope that's not a bad thing :confused3

...oh no, not at all....I can't see it on my screen though, even though I tried to condense my siggie a little bit more...

Oh good! I'm glad it's ok :flower3: Yes, I can see everything from your AKLodge sparkly image :) to your bunny hopping to your Easter egg and then the dates of your trips and then that TR title/link! I know how frustrating it is when your signature isn't right... Thanks again for the awesome reports.

UPDATES ~

Progress on Animal Kingdom Villas' Kidani Village is moving right along. Construction on the new Disney Vacation Club location required that animals on the resort's Sunset savanna were removed temporarily several months ago. The animals are now returning ahead of schedule and will be back on the Sunset Savanna as of March 25.

We were at AKL from the 6-13th. The animals were already on the Sunset Savannah our very first night. At least some of them were. We saw giraffes, ostriches and Ankole Cattle. I can't remember if there were any zebra on that savannah then.

Thanks so much for the directions. We leave in about 7 hours for AKL!!! I'm so excited . . . I'll bring back plenty of pics to post!

 Have a great trip!!

Yes, and we are all impatiently waiting for her to get back to those trippies! popcorn::

So sad about the elephant...:sad2:

I am glad to hear that the animals are returning early to the Sunset Savanna, though. I just love watching them all over the resort.:)

I think the magical express will ruin the surprise for me!

Hi, torsie! Welcome - we're glad you found us! :goodvibes Congratulations on upgrading! That is exciting!! :yay:

The Jambo Wildbunch is alive and well! We're a group of die-hard AKL Lovers! :cloud9:

We do stray off-topic from time to time, so you're welcome to ask AKL questions here; or just about anything else you'd like to talk about! ;) Please feel free to ask any questions you might have. Everyone here is always glad to help! :flower3:

Hello!!!!

You're going to regret telling me I can ask questions! :lmao: I have soooo many!!

Is there like an AKL FAQ/Photo site? I would love to see info on the store there and the CS options, as I know all about Boma and Jiko, but nothing about any other eateries that may be around. :)

Is check in normally pretty fast? I'm hoping there will be a Savannah room we can upgrade to also, so I'll enquire/pay the extra at check in. :) I need to do a lot of research as to which trail I'd like to be on if I get given the option. :teeth:

Everyone here is happy to answer your questions! :)

I think a good site for AKL info & photos is allears: http://allears.net/acc/faq_akl.htm This link should bring you to Deb's AKL Fact Sheet. On the left of that page, you can scroll down a bit to see the other AKL links for photos, etc. :thumbsup2

Check-in is usually pretty quick. I don't think I've ever waited more than about 10 minutes to check in. It really depends on time of day and if an ME bus just dropped off a bunch of guests!

Zebra Trail is a favorite for many here, but we've never had a savanna view we didn't like! ;)

Oooh, thanks for the link! It's my lunchbreak son so I'll have a look then!!

I was going to hit up allears this lunch to look at the room service menu also! :)

Hi! AKL is a great resort, I am sure you will have a fantastic stay there! This here is a great thread for learning about AKL, it's the unofficial AKL thread, but there is an official FAQ ongoing as well (which for some strange reason is named unofficial http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1633854). But there are many AKL fans hanging out here, so you can ask away here as well!

Where were you staying originally? The ME bus normally has Pop, CSR and AKL on one route. So perhaps you can only tell him when he wants to get off the bus at CSR or Pop...
