Adventures of the "Moms" Panel

Actually and amazingly 11 of us had managed to connect before we arrived in Disney for training! Beatrice was the only one we hadn't spoken with in advance - she was having some computer issues that kept her from chatting with us before the event.

Several of us had talked here starting in round 2, and through round 3. A group started to try to find one another that way, and it just grew. We had at least one person join us from Passporter, and a coupled googled and made their way to the dis. I think at that point we were missing 3 people, and Ratboy contacted Leanne at Disney and told her that we were all talking and would love to connect with the other 3 as well, so she could forward our information on to them. Then two others joined, so we were 11 people VERY curious about our missing #12! :)

I'm sure that put her at a bit of a disadvantage with all of us coming in 'knowing' each other already, but you'd never know it. Beatrice is bubbly and personable and very easy to talk to, and we all blended very well.

You guys are doing great. I too think they did a great job at picking you guys. Keep up the good work. I hope you don't become overwhelmed by all the questions. I must say that when I went on the site yesterday I thought to myself, gosh only twelve will that be enough? We'll I've got to help my DD study for the spelling bee so I'll check things out again later. Enjoy!

I just noticed that there's a nice video overview of the Mom's Panel, which introduces the panelists (with footage from their Disney training trip).

(Click "What is the Mom's Panel" in the dialog box above "Top 5 Questions." It's on the right side of the screen.)

Very cool! :thumbsup2

I watch all the individual videos and you guys did great!! But the footage you did on the Mom's Panel was relax and natural. You guys really looked like pros in that video.

What was the difference between the two. Did you film the overview after the view bio? Did the experience of the first view help you with the second?

Great Job!! Once Again!!!:flower3:

Look!!!! Erin answered my question!!! I'll be making ADR for 50's Prime Time in two weeks. Thanks Erin!!!

I rated you five!!!!!!!:cheer2:

I am traveling to WDW in July and we have been there many times. I always have a problem with eating dinner at Hollywood Studios. We love the Sci-Fi, but we need one more dinner reservation there. What do you suggest. Fellow DISBoard WishesQueen

Theme Parks We love the Sci-Fi too, but here are a few other ideas:

I recently ate at the Hollywood Brown Derby in Disney's Hollywood Studios and had one of the best meals I've ever experienced on Disney property. The grapefruit cake I had for dessert was spectacular. The Brown Derby is on the expensive side and has a more elegant atmosphere than some of the other theme park restaurants. I might dine there with older children and teens, but choose something else if I were with toddlers.

Also in the Studios is a great choice for the whole family, the 50's Prime Time Cafe. The decor is a suburban kitchen circa the mid-1950s. From each table, there is a view of a black-and-white television running clips from classic TV shows of the era. The menu includes American comfort food like meatloaf, fried chicken, and my children's favorite, homemade macaroni and cheese. The best part of the experience is that the servers all act like part of your family. A young male server might be your "brother" or an older female server might be "mom." During one visit to the Prime Time Cafe, "mom" made my husband stand in the corner because he puts his elbows on the table after she told him not to. He played along and my daughters got a huge kick out of seeing Daddy "scolded" in a restaurant.

I didn't receive this as an email. I found it wondering the site!!

That's right! Disney's Moms Panel site (disneyworldmoms.com) just went live yesterday around 2:00 p.m.

The panelists have been answering practice questions from Disney CMs for a few weeks now, so the site already was filled with good info before the forum was even opened to the public.

We were told that you were supposed to get your answers in an email as well as on the site. I will mention this to the tech people. We've been keeping them busy finding little glitches in the system, but I'm sure all the kinks will be worked out in no time.

Annette,

Thanks for the question. And thank you to everyone on DIS for the support. There have been some snarky comments about the Panel on other boards. So I'm grateful to have such a nice group behind us here. We really are all just regular people with regular lives here trying to do our best for a product we believe in. So it's frustrating to be treated poorly because of this.

Again, you guys are so amazingly great :thumbsup2 . It's been wonderul knowing that you all are on our team.:grouphug:

Erin

I AM SHOCKED!!!!!

I really can't imagine anything bad anyone could say!!! I have a best friend who believes that when people act poorly its due to jealously and once again I think she right!!!

We all would love to be in your shoes, but were not. So why not sit back and enjoy the ride. You guys have been so good to us in sharing your amazing experience. If it wasn't for you guys telling us everything and even showing us photos I would be dying of curiousity.

So its time for you to not worry about what people are saying and for you sit back and enjoy your experience of a lifetime and let them eat their hats!!!

Ew! I'm sorry to hear that -- especially since it looks like you folks have been devoting a lot of personal time to crafting thoughtful responses. ('Kinda makes me want to run a Google search just to see what's being said...)

I'm with WishesQueen, though. It may be a case of sour grapes -- either that or some lonely, bitter people who get a real kick out of trying to (anonymously) ruin someone else's day with their mean comments. (Hmmm! I guess that last statement was a bit harsh, but I had fun writing it. ;) )

Bottom line: Not everyone is a happy person. And not everyone loves Disney as passionately was we do!

Enjoy your spot on the Mom's Panel. Remember: You earned it!

Dear Denae,

As you know, we recently conducted a search for moms who have mastered the art of planning a Walt Disney World® Resort vacation in our search for the first ever Walt Disney World® Moms Panel. While we were overwhelmed with 10,000 responses in just one week, it also was a turning point. When we saw the passion and heart warming stories you shared about your experiences at Walt Disney World ® Resort, we realized it was important to stay connected with you.

We would like to extend an invitation to you to become a member of a new club – a Walt Disney World® “Moms Club.” The name is still to be determined – in fact; you can help determine the name. This new program will include newsletters packed with parent-friendly Walt Disney World news that will also include surveys asking your opinions about Walt Disney World ® Resort. We are also developing a welcome kit for members that we intend to mail out this spring 2008.

Please click on the following link to make sure that your profile information is correct. We need your correct home address so that we may send your welcome kit. It will contain special gifts and information about our new moms group and tools to share the magic of Walt Disney World Resort with others. Update my profile>>

Naming the group: Once you’ve updated your profile, the first thing we’d like you to do is help name this group. We’ve come up with a short list of possibilities. You can vote on your favorite choice by selecting one of the four choices below. Voting closes January 13, 2008 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

I got it too - I was one of the 9,900 that didn't make it past round one ;) But I am happy that they have kept our contact info and are doing something new with us too.

I -thoroughly- enjoyed watching the Moms Panel video yesterday and feel like I "know" you guys all a bit more :) What a fun weekend it looked like for all of you - particularly the Cinderella Suite tour! I have loved reading the posts and following this process for all of you (Bret's article was really fun to read too.)

Here's a question for those of you that made it, that I just thought of again - when I got the above email today, it said to visit my profile at Disney.com and make sure it was correct. When I did that, it had a box for the year of my last Disney vacation. The box said "2005" but of course we were there in 2006 too, so I corrected that - but then I wondered... Did you guys update that date before submitting your entry to the Moms Panel? We stayed onsite in 2006, but we booked through a different website vs. Disney.com, and in the back of my mind I wondered if that didn't "count" as visiting the resort in the past year.

I realize the odds were way, way against most of us getting through the process, but out of curiosity, how did they verify that you'd been there in the past year before allowing you to continue the panel selection process? What if you had taken a day trip into the park and didn't stay onsite, which I know was the case for some others on the boards too? This is something I have been very curious about - how they would verify (or ask you to "prove") you'd been there in the past year.
