Accept or reject.

I'm a bit confused because I did the same transaction at the end of July and ended up at just under $160/pt on two 150pt VGF contracts.
Was it one purchase with two contracts of 150 each or two separate purchases? There was about a month in between my purchases.

I would still take the deal on the second 150. It sucks they screwed up the deal, but you'll still never see VGF at these prices. Yes, you can haggle on resale, but 150 points VGF doesn't go super far at that home resort. I think you're going to need/want those other 150 points, and if they're not selling back the MB points on the second contract, maybe you could rent them out on your own? Win-win, it's the same deal, and you get all direct points at the same resort.

At the end of the day, it is STILL a really good deal for the showpiece of DVC WDW. I'd go forward. In another year or two, after vacationing, are you going to care about the difference?

I agree with this too. If what you really want is direct GF, I’d just do it. You’re not really losing money, just gaining points. It’s incredibly annoying, but if it’s what you want, buy it. It may be the case that you are reevaluating what you want however. And in that case you have to figure out a new direction.

It’s Welcome Home credit he’s missing on. NOT magical beginnings.

I would cancel & buy resale. But the deal you have is still pretty good and the convenience might be worth the extra $$. You could always rent 60-70 points to make up what was lost. I’d be furious at my guide!

I am just curious. Did the paperwork include any terms and conditions regsrding the welcome home credit? Or, was everything just bundled under developer credit?

Do you have anything in writing with the mistaken advice from the guide?
If yes get a manager and show it to them and ask them to honor the deal you should have got, if they won’t, cancel the second purchase and see how they react (theoretically they want the sale).

If you have nothing in writing and your contract says welcome home can only be received once then you got burned by believing them and not reading the contract yourself. Move to a different guide at a minimum to prevent bad advice guide from the commission.

They were bundled. Both the first one and the second one.

It is in writing and I spoke to a manager. The Manager had access to all the emails and read them while we spoke on the phone. The manager said that my guide was new and he is “earning his ears” and he would rewrite the contract but the price was higher now and would not be advantageous to me. He sent me a gift card and said “you are still getting a good deal”. I don’t think they really care if I buy or not. At least that was the vibe I got.

It stinks you were given incorrect information by your guide, but if you want the VGF points I would still take the contract. You will never get VGF for this price again. Resale is hovering around the same price and it's restricted. I would take the Disney GC and ask if there was anything else that could be done like an additional Welcome Home stay at a hard to secure location? Maybe additional LLs on a trip?

You will also save money on the dues for this second contract depending on how long you wait to sign. It obviously won't be $1,170, but try to sign as late as possible so that's some extra savings since they're pro-rated?

It sucks but I'd probably still buy it. I get that it's hard since you were fed the wrong info from your guide but it's still a great deal and likely still better than anything they're going to offer for VGF down the road. You were never going to get that extra 1500 off twice even though it feels like you just lost out on 1500. It's worth the extra 20 pp to have those points unrestricted at least IMO. I'd probably sign it and then ask for another guide immediately :P

I agree with this. I would be super upset, but would rather have 150 direct points than 150 resale points since the difference is $20pp or $3000. I would sign the contract and then email Member Services to see if they can do anything to get you closer to the pricing on the 300 point contract, since you have it in writing and your guide didn’t know what he was talking about. Honest mistake since he’s new, but why should you be out $1200?

I would also go through with the direct purchase. Can't let perfect be the enemy of the good...

The fact that buying 2x150 points seemed cheaper than buying 300 always seemed like a loophole so if it's explained by the inability to get some of the credits twice, that actually makes sense. But it is totally unacceptable that your guide gave you the wrong information. If he did it in writing it does indicate more a "newness" issue rather than anything else, as may sometimes be the case with other timeshare organizations where lies are more common.

Yet, I would still try to "minimize the damage" as much as possible... in particular try to maybe get them to split the contract into 3x50 points and waive the extra closing costs. That's pretty costless for them to do, but may be extra value for you if you ever sell your contracts in the future, since smaller contracts sell for substantially higher prices per point.

In addition, I would ask/insist to speak to the person mentioned in this post (worth reading entire thread). I would think that if there was a way to make things right, she'd be able to help...

Welcome Home again?(!)

How did this work out? This is really gross and timeshare-y.
I am still deciding.

I had spaced out my down payment over multiple payments for the credit card rewards and to save the interest. My next installment is scheduled for 10/4. I received 3 separate emails on Sunday about the upcoming charges that were all wrong. They had impending charges that was nearly $6,000 more than what the unsigned contract showed. Apparently the original contract with the welcome home credit was still showing in the system and the guide managed to somehow split the charge for the right contract but it had the wrong total amount. The QA representative “assured” me that it would not have charged me because the numbers were wrong and she would have had to call to reconcile the discrepancy and supposedly corrected the mistake. Further evidence that my guide really did not know what he was doing.

I emailed the Manager I spoke to last week and I copied dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com. I am waiting for a reply. I am in no hurry and I really think they can do better than a $200 “stay magical” gift card all things considered. I am trying to not be short sighted but also feel like this mistake is on Disney for not doing a better job of training the guide.

I just want to clarify that this is all for an average of $3.33 a point discrepancy after factoring in the $200 dining credit…

You’re either going to die on the hill of “the principle of the point” or take the very good deal that is still out there and make sure you get a new guide.

You would be justified in either scenario. Pick the one that will matter more to you in 5-years.

Myself, I’d be grumpy about it until my first stay and then never give it another thought again.
