I just want to clarify that this is all for an average of $3.33 a point discrepancy after factoring in the $200 dining credit…

You’re either going to die on the hill of “the principle of the point” or take the very good deal that is still out there and make sure you get a new guide.

You would be justified in either scenario. Pick the one that will matter more to you in 5-years.

Myself, I’d be grumpy about it until my first stay and then never give it another thought again.
The quoted discrepancy with Welcome Home credit is $1,500, $1,300 (8.67/point) minus the $200 gift card but that was never really possible. The real discrepancy, buying 300 points in one purchase not two 150 points purchases, started at $1,170. It was reduced by $200 (gift card). That is $970 about $6.47/point. I did not factor in the additional closing costs from the second purchase.

That is my battle which choice am I going to be less upset about.?!

It's okay to feel grumpy about it, but I'd still take the points. We probably won't see that deal again.

Not sure I would do this, if it’s worth it, or it’s possible since the offer is over, but what if you put the 2nd contract in another family members name( or dropped your spouse etc,) closed, dealt with 2 memberships for a month or 2, then do a gratuitous transfer to the main membership?

For me, and this won’t be popular, it’s was a mistake that was made and while disappointing, these things happen. And, all promotions do say that they can end at any time. I think the $200 is a nice gesture.

If you were ready to buy the 300 from the start, curious why you did not? Buying a month apart is giving you the benefit of spreading payments out a little longer which is nice little extra..

To be honest, in the end, you are paying $1k extra and it seems that even with that, it’s still a great deal.

One way you could make it back down the line is to rent 50 to 75 points. Good luck with your decision.

These responses are very generous to Disney. This is their 24/7 job. At best they were incompetent or sloppy, at worst they lied -- and worse refuse to make it right. I'd be canceling everything unless they can make it right and do what they promised. I can tell you exactly how DVC responds when owners are sloppy on the rules with this very complicated product.

I guess I would be open to other things of equal value, if they want to do it some other way for their bean counters, but I would feel ick about the whole thing. That's not a good feeling on such an expensive purchase. This behavior feels very timeshare-y.

DVC is not going anywhere, you don't have to buy this from Disney. When timeshare resale brokers are sounding more upfront and honest, yikes.

I was spreading the delta out over the full 300 points, and I assume you would have split the contracts anyways so closing costs delta is neutral. Even at a $6.47 a point delta…

I am still deciding.

I had spaced out my down payment over multiple payments for the credit card rewards and to save the interest. My next installment is scheduled for 10/4. I received 3 separate emails on Sunday about the upcoming charges that were all wrong. They had impending charges that was nearly $6,000 more than what the unsigned contract showed. Apparently the original contract with the welcome home credit was still showing in the system and the guide managed to somehow split the charge for the right contract but it had the wrong total amount. The QA representative “assured” me that it would not have charged me because the numbers were wrong and she would have had to call to reconcile the discrepancy and supposedly corrected the mistake. Further evidence that my guide really did not know what he was doing.

I emailed the Manager I spoke to last week and I copied dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com. I am waiting for a reply. I am in no hurry and I really think they can do better than a $200 “stay magical” gift card all things considered. I am trying to not be short sighted but also feel like this mistake is on Disney for not doing a better job of training the guide.
I really admire your perseverance. 💎🙌

Escalate it on your own and force them to make you whole. They are required to honor what they presented to you, it's just a matter of how far you're ok pushing it.

Getting the Welcome Home credit twice has been done.
Wanted to wait to respond about this until my contract was closed & notarized yesterday, so hopefully they can’t change anything now. I hope

But in May bought 150 VGF with summer sales incentives including Welcome Home credit. Purchased over phone with a guide in CA.

On Sept 11 while at VGF ended up purchasing another 150 pt VGF contract (split into 50-50-50) and also received the Welcome Home credit.

It was with a different guide (on-site who came over when he heard me talking to my husband about wanting more pts while we were waiting to get into Floridian Cafe.) He looked up my account and said we didn’t have a guide listed & could he help.

The guide knew we had just purchased in May from looking at our account. We lightly touched on credits, he stated final cost of points including MB and it sounded the same as my last contact, truthfully really just wanted to get out of there to start our day as this was an unplanned detour & people were waiting for us.
I wasn’t sure we’d get the Welcome Home credit again. Didnt know if it was a one time thing or if it went off of how any trips to Disney you had planned.

When reviewing the contracts while standing in ride lines realized it was on there. Figured it was because I had given the CA guide our November reservation for the May purchase. Still don’t know if that’s how Welcome Home works?

Anyway sorry so long and not exactly the same situation as you when purchasing, as mine were 4 mos apart with DIFFERENT guides, but wanted you to know it has been done before.

I think I’d keep pushing it, but it depends on you & how bad you really want another 150 pts there

Wow that is interesting. Now I am really confused and feel very tricked. Did you do magical beginnings? Was the cost the same in September and May?

Yes.
We did MB in May & they took our 2022 Sept UY pts.
Unfortunately in September sale we had to give up the 2023 UY pts coz we have a Sept UY. They wouldn’t give us 2022 pts, so that kinda stunk, but really didn’t need them anyway.

So actually if you’re getting 2022 UY points to give back for MB you’re already $1800 better off than me.

The cost for points was exactly the same after all discount, Welcome Home & MB @ $161.10 Pt.

Closing cost for September was $371.84 more because we split 150 into 3 contracts and dropped the title insurance on that one. I forgot to drop it in May.

I’m happy that you got the credit, but something slipping through the system doesn’t mean that is what’s actually allowed. It’s like when a grocery store clerk forgets to ring something up… it doesn’t mean that everyone gets that item for free in the future.

Thank you.
and that’s my question. Did it slip thru the system?

I‘m just wondering does it say somewhere that the ‘welcome home’ is only available once per DVC account?
what if you have 2 accounts?
what if you have more than 1 trip planned & you give a different reservation date on each? Like I did. I don’t think they asked for a reservation # but can’t remember from May.

I’ve search a little, just curious if anyone knows?

iIRC, there was something that showed an owner buying more than one contract could get credit only once.

My guess is it did slip through…and the fact you spaced things so far apart, it’s why, i it’s like when they offered the luggage set for new VGF owners last year. I added two contracts but in different memberships. I was told I would not get two sets, but I did.

Found out after it was indeed a mistake. All DVD promotions though have a disclaimer that they can change at anytime.

Thank you.

I had inquired back in July about purchasing 150 and 150 and my guide flat out told me it was once per member. I asked what if I deeded it differently, put it in another Use Year, or already closed. He claimed that as long as one member who already received the Welcome Home incentive was on the on the contract that "Quality Assurance would flag it and not send the contract out." That's what I was told even though I never saw it explicitly spelt out in terms and conditions.

I am guessing it slipped through the cracks. Maybe purchasing in the 2022 UY and then the 2023 UY had something to do with it?
