Yes, I know we should be avoiding this at all costs, but this is the only night we have to do this one.

We usually hang about MK until the crowds dwindle away after the shows, but this year we have a 3 yr. old in tow and I don't want to have her out until 12am trying to get a bus back to AKL. Last time we did this it took well over 2 hours to get a bus after Spectro.

So here's my thought: Walk to the Contemp. and take a bus to DTD and transfer to AKL.

Is that the best possible way? I hate to use the DTD hub, but I can't think of any way around it.

The only other thing I could think of is walking to the Cont. hitching the mono to TTC and riding over to Epcot and catching a bus from there, I figure by the time we got there it would be about 10:30-11:00 and so the Illuminations crowds would be pretty much gone. I just don't know if buses would still be over there at this time.

HELP!!! This is our first time without a car, otherwise I'd be driving to this one.

The other ? I have is about the DTD hub. I think the buses make 2, 3 or 4 stops there. When we go from point A then get off to transfer to the hotel bus, what stop are we going to or does it not matter. Just wondering if the DTD to hotel buses are at all the stops or a certain one. We've never used this hub either.

Thanks in advance!!!

I think either option is probably going to be a long haul. On our last trip, we used DTD as a hub trying to get back to Beach Club from AKL (after a great dinner at Boma). The whole trip wound up taking 2 hours. We would have better off to call a cab! You may actually want to consider that, given the "little ones" and the fact that either the DTD or the Epcot run (I think this is the riskier of the two you're considering). Maybe Tyler will have a suggestion!

It doesn't matter whether it's some random day in the year, or Fourth of July park exit... it should NEVER take over an hour to go from MK to AKL. Perhaps y'all were just super tired, and it might have felt like that?

AK Lodge is NOT a busy resort, and service from the MK after Fireworks or Spectro is pretty constant for all the resorts. I've NEVER seen a park exit last more than an hour... Even busy nights, its typically less 45 minutes. And by that, I mean, we are loading full buses for 45 minutes. Actual wait time for guests is a mere fraction of that. Usually the last 15 minutes are just clearing out the All-Stars...

The year we had the TERRIBLE problems was in 1999 late Sept. on a Saturday night. There was only one showing of FITS and one showing of Spectro that week and this was the night. The FITS f/w were at 9:00pm that night and we finally got back to CBR just before midnight.

I think the entire state of FL was there! LOL And it did take almost 2 hours to get out of there it was a complete nightmare!!! I wasn't the only DIS memeber there that night and when I got back we all had a good laugh about that mess.

There were only a few CMs directing the crowds to the lines, but were just telling everyone to go in the same line, it was sort of like a mob scene. People were yelling and climbing over everyone trying to get to another line, after they saw there bus was WAY on the other side of the thing the buses pull into.

The monorail line was just as bad and it even got to the point were the CMs were turing folks away and trying to get them on the buses instead. When you'd question the CM about time, what line or ?? they'd get snippy and just say I don't know or get in line.

I can say this was the only time we've had this problem, but then we usually avoid Sat at the MK like the plague. LOL

I think it may be better this time, because of the two showings of Spectro, but I was just trying to get a more logical route out of there. Maybe walking to the Contemp. and taking a cab is a good idea for that night if the crowds look bad.

We will have a car, so would it be better to just drive ourselves to MK in this situation? We plan to spend the day at AK, then head over to MK around 5:00 to watch Spectro and FITS (actually I think it will be Dreams by then). I know that we will still need to take the monorail/ferry from MK to the TTC, so will we be saving ourselves any time? Thanks!

You won't be saving any time... the line for the Monorail and the Ferry can get quite long after a parade and/or fireworks. In addition, then you have another line for the tram. Then, you have to deal with the traffic leaving the Magic Kingdom.

Resort buses will also have lines... but they'll be the only line you have to wait for, and it's usually not as bad as it seems.

Don't push the family to git up and git going that morning. Be more leisurely walking through the park. Sit down somewhere during the afternoon, let the little 'un nap, and [you] enjoy the scenery, even if you do nothing but watchin' all the girls or boys walk by.

This way the 3yo may "last until midnight" with less fussing.

(You could also go back to the resort for an afternoon siesta.)
