Abercrombie and Fitch does not want their brand on fat people

They start with size 00, so a 10 in A&F is actually closer to a 12 or 14.

That isn't true. Offering smaller sizes doesn't mean they shift the whole range down - it just means they offer smaller sizes that other brands don't. To use that 00 as an example - that's the same waist measurement as a girls' 7/8 from Gymboree. And IME A&F jeans run small - my DD wears a 00 in most juniors brands, if she can find them, but in A&F she needs a 1. She also wears a medium top from them, and she's still wearing mediums from the girls' department in other brands.

To quote my DS who is in college, If it flies it dies when it comes to clothes. It made shopping much easier for him! I just remember not to buy him anything with a A&F or Hollister logo on it!

What the heck does that mean? I've never heard that term before.

I don't even have words for what this man has stated. I have never allowed my daughter to shop at A&F or any of it's offshoots. It was not because of the loud music in the store or the strong perfume smell (that didn't help) but because back when I was in in my early 20's they released a catalog geared at their teen shopper, which included recipes for getting blitzed and special alcoholic punches. I don't know why this set me off so much but i stopped shopping there and despite my child's pleas I never let her shop there.

This will solidify that I won't let her shop there. I think she got me to go in last summer and tried on some jeans but they didn't fit her (even the 00) because she was too thin. but either way, I'm glad I stuck to my guns.

Oh the irony.

No, no irony. I do not think it's impossible to have plastic surgery and not have had too much or not be attractive. I am speaking about one individual who clearly (in my opinion) looks like he has had way too much plastic surgery.

Does anyone else have an urge to find an Abercrombie shirt and cut it to look as unflattering as possible, showing large exposed portions of white jiggling fat (may as well put what I've got to good use :rotfl2: ) and parade around the mall this weekend???

This is absolutely true. My DD is a 0 to 1 in most juniors and needs like a 5 at abercrombie. She can wear 10's in girls, but is more proportioned for juniors clothes because she is athelitic and has a small waist/ larger hips and thighs. Girls clothes are cut too "square" for her if that makes any sense? By the time the hips and thighs fit, the waist is huge.

As others have said, they have the right to choose not to sell plus sizes just like Lane Bryant has the right to not carry petites, but I don't think that's the part that's upsetting people. It's that this "businessman" (or whatever you want to call him, as he lacks professionalism completely) didn't exactly use the most tactful approach. I consider myself somewhat well versed in fashion so honestly I find his statement laughable, as the "cool kids" for the most part wouldn't be caught dead in AF or Hollister. It's been "out" since I was in college. He really should be thankful if the "uncool" people wear it, or anyone for that matter.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and call bovine fecal matter on that one. While not just a clothing company, I would say that Disney is a rather successful company. They don't just target the "cool" kids. They target everybody with their parks, movies, clothing, etc., and I'd say that they do a darn good job of exciting people. This guy seriously made a mistake with his comments. I'm guessing he was trying to drive up business by having kids say, "You know, I'm not cool or popular, but if I shop here, maybe people will think I am." Unfortunately, moms and dads are usually the ones who give money for clothes when it is as expensive as Abercrombie. And I'm betting mom and dad aren't going to like those comments.

:rotfl2: Best line EVER!!!! I have to clean the pop off my screen now.

:thumbsup2 I could careless that their target market is thin and cool. Please feel free to sell to them to their heart content.

This. All stores have the right to cater to a particular group of people, and there are certainly plenty of others stores that do not sell plus-size clothing. It's the fact that the owner of this store has said that those who aren't able to shop there could not possibly be "cool" or "popular." I honestly don't care in the least what this particular man thinks, but it's a terrible message to send to people- especially the younger ones that his store is trying to attract.

Quoted for prosperity and clarity. :thumbsup2

I work at Abercrombie kids and think this is hilarious

Since you do can you answer a few questions for me? My daughter loves the store but like I stated earlier she has to wear a 2 sizes bigger there then at other stores like PS or Justice so why is that? Also why I find the clothes very cute and preppy and have no problem with them does anyone really buy their tween daughter bathing suits from your store? Maybe I am just a prude but they are so scandalous and I am not opposed to 2 piece suits for my daughter she wears them all the time but really a padded tiny triangle top for a 12 year old.

I don't have kids and I agree!! Love the preppy style on kids, super cute. But those bikinis? I don't know about that. I heard they used to sell thong underwear in their girls section (not 100% sure on this...I worked at grown up Abercrombie in college and this was after that).
