Disney's Boardwalk Resort

What does guest rooms being above the location have to do with not having a fryer? How do they get around that for the restaurants on the Inn side of the resort?
There are no guest rooms directly above the dining locations on the Inn side until the 3rd floor.

There is a separation, and a structural Building Firewall that separates the BWI boardwalk level from the Guest rooms. All the dining locations are vented on to the Boardwalk.

When we have stayed at the Inn Keepers Club with a BW view we are able to bakery items from Bakery every day when we were on the Balcony. We have not stayed on the Inn side with a BW view since the conversion of the bakery to the Deli, and the reduction in the commercial baking.

There is a small group of rooms on the 2nd floor overlook the Courtyard in the short section next to the Elevator Bank. Again isolated from the commercial spaces on the Boardwalk.

Owner at BWV since it opened, and I agree they need to do something badly about casual food options. An upscale fancy bakery was not what we wanted. We liked the Boardwalk Bakery the way it was, but the resort has been suffering since ESPN closed and then BRG, so there is nothing but Pizza and corn dogs and pool bar junk and all outside seating. I had no love for Boardwalk as a nighttime entertainment district, so I want to see them convert Atlantic Dance Hall to large quick service venue with indoor seating. Move the BW Deli and Pizza there as part of the offerings. Make it a multi-station with better hot breakfasts, a choice of grill and deli stuff and pizza and flatbreads and such. Add something different and thematic with a good ice cream option (Beaches & Cream is hard to get to and such limited seating!) and add milkshakes and smoothies for fun. Also an easily reached drink refill station PLEEEEEASE.

We have been BWV owners since 96. I am with you. The Deli is nice but I do miss the bakery. Converting the Dance Hall is a great Idea!

I agree completely as well. We love the BWV hotel...pool and area. But the lack of easy QS hot food stinks. Even the pool bar has removed anything hot.

I've been saying for ages Atlantic Funeral Parlor would be better served as an upscale food hall type of concept of the sort that has become popular in many cities (they're all over the place here in NY, Chelsea Market, Industry City, Urbanspace, etc). They could have a mix of Disney owned and operated or just bring in a bunch of local third party vendors like the Polite Pig folks and Gideon's.

It would solve the QS issue that's plagued Crescent Lake for years, and since Disney is always several years late to food trends elsewhere it would be a great time to announce that with specific plans for the former Jellyrolls space.

Re: entertainment we saw plenty of it on our BWI stay in May but it wrapped up early and I can only assume it's the hotel guest version of NIMBYs complaining about noise if it's not about money.
 
We don't have a problem w/lack of quick service to be honest. We have hoppers, so dip in and out of Epcot whenever. Also, there's soooo many places to eat around there including Swan/Dolphin that we never run out of options. A favorite became a late lunch at Ale & Compass.

Oh and so many lounges to choose from also. Plus last trip (Beach Club) we enjoyed taking Skyliner to Riviera for food.

Maybe because most of our lunches are at the parks, we don't notice it as much? And for breakfast all I'm having is an iced coffee and a croissant from Carousel Coffee! 😂

I spend a lot of time at the resorts, and often start early for the park and take a long mid-day resort break so food is a concern and I don't want to take all that time to get into the parks.

As much as I love those upscale city food markets, I did get sticker shock from the ones I have visited, and they would have to change their tune about day and evening visitors to Boardwalk. They have been really iffy about whether they welcome visitors - with restricted parking, no parking, and at times outright denying entrance to non-resort guests. I think the mid day population would be a challenge for the upscale setting, maybe even the evening would be tough since there are so many evening dining venues.
 
@ParrotBill, I agree with you! I'm not sure what the designers were thinking back in the early 90s when planning the BoardWalk area. Surely they didn't expect all the BW Inn guests to eat breakfast at Spoodles?

When Boardwalk and Beach & Yacht were built, they clearly had upscale bias thinking going on. It was all about fine dining plus ESPN (still sit down.) It took Villas at BC to get them to add quick service (barely).

What the heck was Spoodles back then????

I do remember another sit venue at B&YC I loved: Ariel's. Anyone remember? It had a seafood newburgh to die for!

I remember Ariel’s! They haven’t replaced it with anything else after all these years. 😢
 
Yes, Spoodles was Italian, and they had the best breakfast buffet - we ate there on our last morning, I think, and I still remember the lox with all the accompaniments!

They did use Ariel's briefly. When Captain's Grill was being renovated to become Ale and Compass, Ariel's opened as a full service sit down with the menu and staff from Captain's Grill. Then when Ale and Compass debuted they closed it. We dined there four or five times. It was a nice space for a restaurant.

It is! I think about Ariel’s every time we walk by the space.

A food hall? Definitely something Disney can consider.
