Abercrombie and Fitch does not want their brand on fat people

Saw a video online today of a guy passing out A & F clothes to a bunch of homeless guys on the street.

I am not sure how I feel about that. I get his point. And giving clothes to people who dont have them, is great. But at this point I dont want to see ANYONE wearing A&F stuff....does that make sense:confused3

I think it's weirder than that. It's like, "you want this on pretty people? I'm going to give it to the ugliest, worst people I can think of: the homeless. That'll show you."

I understand his overarching point, but it really does feel like the homeless are kind of the butt of the joke.

I think part of the reason he is doing this is that it has also been publicized that A&F burns any clothes that aren't sold as opposed to donating them to a worthy cause in an attempt to keep them out of the "wrong hands".

I applaud this effort and was extremely happy to see the stores near me close.

Very strange how this is finally news after so many yrs. and I agree, their clothes styles have not changed since I first started wearing af in college. I don't wear it or purchase it anymore, simply because I think it would look silly on a mom my age.

Af has been around for a long time. My grandmother said her family used to order clothes from their catalog back in the 1920s.

I find vanity sizing to be misleading and condescending. I have been the same size my entire life, with the exception of pregnancy. I tend to hàng onto my clothes for a decade or longer, and do most shopping online. I've noticed my sizes decreasing too, which concerned me several yrs ago (I hadn't weighed myself, but was alarmed by huge decrease in pants size). I wasn't familiar with vanity sizing then, and assumed I had lost weight which worried me. I now know that vanity sizes have run amok, and companies think women are stupid enough to fall for it.

I'm always shocked when I come across a store with true sizes (which isn't often). I went to lululemon last yr to purchase a pair of pants, and asked the salesperson if they carried size 0. She looked at me like I was crazy, and handed me a pair of 2 to try. I couldn't even pull them up. I walked out of there with size 6 pants, which reminds me of what I used to wear. I own 6s that I bought over ten yrs ago that fit me like a glove, however I now wear a 0, and half the time I'm swimming in them.

I am offended by the popular sentiment of "real women have curves" and don't know why it's okay to slam women who are thin. I am a real woman, and I am thin, naturally.

Do they really do that? I'm a big thrift store shopper and I see A&F stuff all the time. Its all used of course but its just funny to think they burn their extras and its still easier to find a pair of A&F jeans at Savers than real "premium" denim.

Yes they do. I remember reading that long ago and being not surprised but disgusted just
The same.

It must be a common practice. I do business that takes me to the dock area of a well known big box retailer. I have seen them throw food away, bikes, mattresses etc......They have to do it for "liability" reasons. The employees hate doing it but thats what they are told to do.

I Hate walking past that store in the mall.It smells really bad and the music is way to loud.

Saw a video. I guy goes to good will stores and buys up all the AF stuff and then hands it out to all the homeless people he can find.

This makes me sick. Yes, because homeless people should be exploited to shame an arrogant CEO. Because they're not ostracized enough in our society. If you want to give them clothes, give them clothes. But they don't want to wear A&F and it's a shame that anybody would exploit them this way. It furthers the idea that homeless are inferior to the rest of society and/or gross, dirty, and unwanted. Trade the word homeless for any ethnicity
and suddenly it wouldn't be such a good idea anymore.

I originally thought it was a unique idea, but it's truly offensive in practice. Further reading: http://feminspire.com/why-fitch-the-homeless-is-a-really-bad-idea/

I dont know what or how much, but many times I am shopping in my local grocery store, Acme, in the morning, there is an announcment that all dept heads report to the loading dock, Philabundance is here. Now Philabundance is a charity that feeds the hungry. So I am assuming that yes some stuff probably has to end up in the dumpster but I am hoping that much of it gets donated to this organization

I agree, I thought the same thing when this video showed up on my Facebook feed. It's like saying they are sub-human.

Acme must use common sense! I think the fear is if they give the food to food banks or shelters etc...if someone who eats the food gets sick then they will come after them looking for money. Which nowadays probably isn't an unfounded fear. But it does seem very wasteful to me.
