I had Lasik in 2000 and went from -12 diopters to perfect vision, but my eyes have slowly been changing and are now at -2 diopters. I have worn contacts for about a year but they really bother me. I went to buy glasses and they were over $400 for prescription glasses and sunglasses. I have been spoiled with free contacts and cannot shell out that kind of cash right now. That was also with the BOGO free deal. I saw some on *bay that were less than $100. Anyone know of any discount, decent quality online retailers? I am desparate. I can not wear my contacts for very long at all and my vision is too bad to drive well.

If you have your prescription, Zenni Optical online has inexpensive glasses and I've heard good things about them.

Bless your heart! I can't offer advice but I wanted to let you know I'm sorry you are going back into glasses. I can commiserate (sort of) ... I've never worn glasses but here lately I have been having headaches when reading/working on computer and my eyes have that funny feeling like when they are trying to refocus. I made an appt for an eye exam and I'm dreading what they tell me. DH wears glasses and his were $400 for just the glasses :scared1:

I had lasik in 2001 and was just told I need driving glasses!

I am ordering from Zenni Optical.

I feel your pain. I had 20-20 vision until I turned 40. Now that I am nearly 50, I am now wearing no-line progressive trifocals full-time.

I could NEVER buy glasses online. I know that many people are fine with Zenni but I could not be one of them. I don't care how cheap the glasses are, I need to be able to try the glasses on my face. Especially something that I wear every waking moment.

We have a couple of discount eyeglass places around here. I bought my last glasses at Eyemart Express. I think they were about $300 for two pairs. Stanton Optical also has good prices but they are a lot like a used car dealership where you have to fight for the best price.

how long is lasik suppose to last? I guess I thought it was good forever. Do most people who did lasik eventually need glasses?

I'm very curious about all of this. Anyone know?

I suppose it depends on the prescription and the actual doctor there, but I just had my eyes checked at Walmart Vision (my doc was great).

$60 Exam

$9 Frames

$27 Lenses

$98 Total.

They turned out nice, I can't believe I waited so long to go. The frames aren't designer of course, but they look nice and are well made. They come with a one year warranty also.

Another place to check is coastalcontacts.com. They are on facebook and have give aways quite often for free pairs of glasses. You do have to pay shipping but I am happy with the glasses I got. They are actually better than the ones I got from the local glasses place that the VA hospital uses and the one that my children used to get their glasses from untill we switched them to Walmart.

I can potentially last forever, it certainly doesn't "wear out" but your eyes are constantly changing. So, what prescription you have today may not be the same prescription you need in 10 years.

I knew my eyes might eventually need glasses or another lasik procedure, but since my eyes are 20/30 right now I will just wear driving glasses and maybe TV glasses.

I'm going to give another vote for Wal-Mart. Because we have exam insurance I now had 2 pair of regular glasses and 1 pair of sunglasses, however my favorite pair are still the ones I got before all that from Wal-Mart. We leave tomorrow for Disney and yesterday I was realizing my son has bopped me one too many times and my glasses kept falling off my nose so a quick stop by Wal-Mart optical and they adjusted them for me (needed a new screw too apparently) and I'm ready to go. Couldn't have done that if I had bought them online!

JCpenney has a coupon online for 2 pair of glasses for 88.99 and Sears I think are 2 for 99. the JCP coupon expires Feb 18(have it in front of me ) don't remember the Sears date...

if you have a BJ's near you, they also sell eyeglasses. Right now they are 50% off. I am another one that could never order online... I need to try them on to see how they feel and how they look. I am in desperate need of new glasses and I keep putting it off because I always take forever to pick the frames! I did try some on at BJ's yesterday and will probably go back with DH (to get his opinion)and my prescription next week

I had Lasik in 2000. While I got a "lifetime guarantee", I was told upfront that it would not cover the normal effects of aging...well, age 40 came around a few years ago and with it, glasses for reading and computer work. Now, if my prescription changes drastically, I will get an enhancement for free. It was still the best thing I've ever done !

I have bought my daughter's glasses from EyeBuyDirect for the last 2 years. They frequently have buy one get one free sales. The starting prices are 7.95. She has every color in the rainbow now.

I had my glasses made at Wal-mart they is made great. I got two pairs for under 150.00 bucks.

I am blind as bat. Also like to try on my glasses. Did I mention that are transition lenses too.

My lasik was guaranteed for a lifetime so any changes I can get them retouched for free (only nearsightedness bc that's what I had fixed), if it's for reading (farsightedness) that's a new procedure or I can just get reading glasses.

maybe check with the doctor or center you went to for their guarantee.
