AAA rate- just need AAA membership, or need to use AAA agent?

I've seen a lot of posts mentioning using a AAA agent, or needing to get a AAA agent. I just called CRO and asked about the AAA rates. I was able to book 2 nights at Poly in September with a AAA rate, and I found out about some possibilities for our April trip. Does this sound right? Can I really get the AAA rate without an agent? I plan to sign up for a basic AAA membership online so I have the card to show at check-in. Thank you!!

CR can book AAA discounts for room only. If you want a package with the AAA discount and benefits, you have to go through an AAA agent.

I just get the basic AAA membership too! I booked our May '06 trip with AAA discount through CRO. Just show your AAA card at check-in.
We had a package for our Dec '05 trip and had to use AAA agent.
