A question about Amazon Prime

The Amazon default setting does NOT require a PIN: you have to opt into that restriction. You can buy your heart out with nothing to slow you down if you don't set it.

Probably 90% of the time when you get an unexpected Prime Video charge, it happened because of a child who had access to an account-enabled device. Also, sometimes people will click on the "buy" button by mistake when they mean to click a different action, especially when using a TV remote, and it bills, even if the user backed out a few seconds later.

Thanks all, that's helpful info.
The reason I'm asking is that I see a charge on my cc for $14.99 and it says Prime Video. When I click on "order history" it does take me to Amazon but I would definitely remember if I consented to pay $14.99 to watch a movie, which I wouldn't.
I also checked back into my cc history and it's not a recurring charge, like every month, for Amazon Prime. It's just this one time charge, for Prime Video, for $14.99. I think it must be a mistake or my card was hacked...Grrrr.
You can go into your account and set up a pin so you’re less likely to make accidental purchases.
Go to Amazon.com, and then choose "Prime Video." Then go to "My Stuff", "Purchases and Rentals" and you can see what you've bought.

We turned off the PIN on our Amazon Fire, so yours may also be off.
Yes, this. See if you accidentally bought something. If it hasn’t been watched sometimes they’ll let you “return” it if bought by accident. I’ve had this happen with books.

I agree with trying the chat function if you cannot find the item in your purchased content section. I also do not have a PIN enabled on my account. Chat is super friendly and will sort you out.

Did you try calling Amazon customer service to see what that charge is about?

OKay, i know this wasn't your intention, but you're funny! Amazon is not processing calls (and hasn't been for several weeks), either outgoing or incoming. The site advises using chat, but does not lrovide access to chat.

OP, try email ecr-replies@amazon.com. I have gotten resolutions within hours.

It's so great they make that so convenient. They made it super convenient with their Echo via the Alexa functions to do all sorts of purchasing so convenient too.
Don't you love it when they are so thoughtful to make things so convenient for their customers?

I used chat with Amazon last week to resolve an issue when I was sent an incorrect item that was nonreturnable. I was able to return it for a refund since it was their mistake. So, chat does exist, it’s available through the help function on the website.

I had an issue with a gift card disappearing from my account 2 weeks ago. I used the help link, then the call me link, and I got a call back within 5 min. They found the issue and put the gift card back on my account. I have also used the chat feature within the last 2 weeks and had no issues with it.

I rarely have a problem with Amazon. I never knew that they had a chat feature. Good to know. :thumbsup2 And since they advertised here that they are hiring hundreds more people, I would have assumed that their call lines are still manned.

Do you all mind shari g about what time of day you wdre able to interact with Amazon? I 100% believe you, I must be trying at the wrong times. Never found Chat, never got the We'll Call You option, and when I call, I get the our associates are being safe, we won't be taking your call message.

I have done it all different times. Early in the morning I find chat easiest. After dinner, I use the 'we'll call you option'. When you click on the help button at the very bottom of the main page, you will be taken to another page. Click more help, then to the right will be the contact us option. When that page opens you have the option of chat, or call them or have them call you

Honestly, I don’t remember the time. At the bottom right of the main page is a link titled Help, I clicked that and in the section titled “Browse Help Topics” I clicked “Need More Help?” Then I clicked “Contact Us”. On that page there is a link for “start chatting now” and a link for “need help over the phone? We can call you”. I’ve have always found Amazon’s customer service very help just not always easily found.

It's kind of weird. The actual Prime Video includes original programming and a collection of movies that are "Included with Prime". But then there are movies that can be rented or purchased, including by those without an Amazon Prime membership. For those movies that can be rented or purchased, the Prime membership doesn't come with any discount on the price.

It's very easy to just click on it when it asks whether you want to buy or rent a movie. I'm careful and have never done that, but I could see how easy it could be to make an inadvertent purchase.

We had a similar situation with a fee from amazon when we accidentally ordered a back we were downloading from the library. They reversed the charge but advised us to set up a pin because we would be responsible for future mistakes.

Thanks, @lynxstch and @JoanneAZ! I played around longer, switched from desktop to mobile site - on my Fire, which increases my annoyance - searched again, and finally was able to pin the main contact page.
