A Guide to Going to Disney on Your Birthday!

We did all the right things (aside from the shirts) and got nothing. Nada. We even had the pin on our daughter, but not one CM mentioned it, the hotel didn't do anything and at 'Ohana (our favorite restaurant) we practically had to beg them to sing for her (yes, it was on the PS).

Just wanted people to know that all of the things mentioned in the original post MAY happen, but don't go there expecting everything on there.

It's not just you! I took a mom-dd-only trip for dd's 8th bday. Not one person acknowledged it, until I asked at Crystal Palace (when they announced groups of bdays and everyone waved their napkins). They added her to a list, then. That's it. And then at Easter, I put dh &my anniversary on everything...hotel ressie, ps, etc. Nothing. Not a word. Nothing. It's ok...they must get tons of special occasions there. If we get there agian in August, we have 3 summer birthdays. We will just celebrate the 2-turning-3 yo's though. I figure if we try to split it all up, some kids might luck out and another get no word. So just upping the odds of pixie dust, by hoping it comes just for the littlest one.

I just booked my birthday trip for November. I just became a DVC member and when I called to reserve the rep asked me the names of everyone staying in the room. I told him I wasn't sure who was going with me ....but I was definately going to have a great time even if I was by myself because it is my BIG birthday party weekend. He laughed and told me that if I was alone that he would get a bunch of castmembers to help me celebrate. Can't wait to go....hopefully I will find some decent airfare.

This thread is awesome! I had no idea! My DD will be turning 13 on our trip (gulp!!) and I know she would love to be fussed over. As I was reading I was formulating the shirts - Mom of a new teenager, Dad of etc. and one for her that says I'm a new teenager today! I'll be sure to call and add the birthday info to our room and dinner ressies. What wonderful suggestions! Thanks! :flower:

WOW Great Thread.

I am going for my first WDW trip with my Family in July 2-9, Now my 23rd B-day is Aug 30 (Day classes start again!) So I was thinking it would be odd not only to do my 23 B-day at Disney but to do it 8 weeks early.

After reading this thread i am now excited that extra magic may abound. The t-shirt idea is great and now i must check with my TA to make sure my b-day or rather un-B-Day is noted on our Room ressi and all of our PS. I am not expecting much magic since this will be the 4th of july week and well WDW should be packed but i guess the hope of something is better then my usual b-day parties. I wonder how many countries are at Epoct :) :) :)

Thank you all for hints and tips that should help to make this my best un-B-day yet.

Stephine you rock girl! We are going for my DS24 birthday in August and I know we will use your tips. This board is so great :goodvibes

Stephanie, thanks. We are going Sept 3 - 11 and my granddaughters birthday is during that time as well as mine. Hers will be the 1st of the week and my on the 10. From reading your thread I noted to everyone about our birthday week and the CM's I spoke to were wonderful. Thanks

My younger sister will be celebrating her 21st birthday while we're there in September. We'll be staying at the Polynesian in Concierge during her birthday. Do any of you have experiences or suggestions for a 21st birthday celebration at WDW? I was thinking of maybe taking her to Pleasure Island that evening so she would have the experience of not having to get an under-21 wristband, but we're not big Pleasure Island fans in general.

Also, what kind of options are available for celebrating birthdays within the hotel? And how much do they cost?

Stephenie...I loved your report and now just found your how-to's on the shirts and stuff...how sweet of you to share!!!

I've planned and cancelled 4 trips this year because we're waiting for a house to sell ( been over a year!) Well, I figured, for extra pixie dust I'd plan our trip for my birthday 9/13...I'll be 38 and heck..I'm gonna go all out and get those shirts from Wal-Mart and paint up my crew...any ideas on what I can put on my children's shirts for having an obnoxious mother who wants all the attention on her birthday? I figure planning and reserving a Disney trip and doing all the PS's 4x and cancelling them all 4x deserves some pampering! :) My children are 6, 7 & 10 and will be sooo excited to see all the celebrating going on...but they'll also be a little bit envious (WHY CAN'T WE GO ON OUR BIRTHDAYS???)...so I'm trying to think of something cute to put on their shirts to give them some recognition...Child of Birthday girl or something like that? Or maybe "Princess/Prince of Birthday M'lady"

Thanks for the great ideas...I'll have to put in the copyright portion of my T-shirt (inspired by Stephenie!)

Hi there.... You'd think a 21st birthday at WDW would be stupid. YOu can go only go to pleasure island! people constantly complain to me.... Well here's my suggestion... (as I dont enjoy PI myself that much either)

Designate her actual birthday-day as 'The day we go to Epcot'. Go to epcot, shirts in hand, pins-ablazin, and do a 'drink around the world fest' It's simple. On your birthday in every land in Epcot you get a free drink. So go there, ride the rides and then after youve ridden all the rides, go to the World Showcase, walk up to the stand and announce to the native that today is you friend's birthday and was wondering if she could have her free birthday drink. Then ENJOY the world showcase. Designate somewhere to have dinner, and stay and watch Illuminations. For your friend... Illuminations will be fun... drunk... And by ENJOY the world showcase, i mean stay awhile, talk to the people who work there enjoy the movies they show.. look at the scenery.. take funny pictures. Just make sure someone in the group is sober so that you get home ok....

Good Luck! And have fun!

Haha thanks for the credit. As far as shirts go... I would go with something cute and funny like on your shirt on the front - I'm a selfish ham... and then on the back 'For Celebrating my Birthday at WDW and then the date under it. On your kids shirts on the front 'I'm jealous' on the back' my mom is celebrating her b-day at WDW!

That would certainly draw attention.... ;) and they would be easy... and cheap to make!!! Good luck!

I haven't read the entire thread yet, but wanna thank the OP!

I'm going for my 21st in December (15th), and I've never done anything special for my birthday (no parties for me or anything), so I'm going to make sure that this year is GREAT!

I'll have to plan it all and arrange it myself (I'm planning the entire holiday!), and there's some things I won't be able to do, but I'm going to have so much fun! :rotfl:

These ideas are so great! We're surprising DS with a trip to WDW for his 4th birthday in September (23rd is the Big Day!) and I can't wait! I've been looking here for tips and this thread is great.

We're staying at WL and I saw they have a bday cake you can order - I plan to do that - and I was going to bring Mickey or Buzz plates, napkins, etc from home. I saw some other ideas on allears and we're going to make sure that even if no one else acknowledges his day, we'll have made such a fuss he won't notice (I'm going to bring things to decorate, leave him Disney cards I'll buy at home and pretend the characters did it, etc). We'll have breakfast at Whispering Canyon Cafe, Lunch at the Liberty Tree Tavern (maybe) and dinner at either Hoop Dee Do (he loves it there) or Cape May Cafe (another favorite). I plan to have him wear the birthday button each day he's there, too

I let the CM know that it was his bday when I made the reservations at WL and next week when I can start AR's I'll do the same...I had to get over the feeling I was asking for something by asking them to mark down that it was his birthday by reminding myself that this was to make the trip even more magical for the most special boy in my world and he's worth me stepping out of my comfort zone for a little bit.

I am really excited to see all of these tips! DH's bithday is 9-9 so even though it'll be 1 1/2 weeks later when we're there I am thinking about getting them matching T-shirts to wear on any of the days that aren't Max's actual Birthday - Mickey on DS's with "It's my birthday!" and a huge "4" on the back and Goofy on DH's with "It's my birthday too!" and a huge "34" on the back and .

Keep the ideas coming!! I'm making a list and I'd love to hear what other people do for their children and husbands/wives/SO's.

Thank you for the incredible birthday advice !!!! :wave2: We have planned a surprise trip, July 27 - August 2nd.........to surprise our 6 year old (turns 7 on July 30th) !!! Of course we will spend her entire birthday at Magic Kingdom, as this is her favorite place in the world !!!! I have been to WDW at least 15 times and never knew any of this Bday info. :wizard: I want to make this a truly magical day for my daughter (and myself :goodvibes - LOL ) and have tucked your suggestions in my head for our trip. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again !!!!!!!

We'll be there for my daughter's 4th birthday the first week of December, so I definitely plan to put lots of this into action! I can't wait!

I have planned my trip in November to be on my Birthday!!! :cool1:

My SIL will be joining me and she is excited to be celebrating my B-day in WDW. Her birthday is a week before mine and she was wondering if she could celebrate her birthday too. Of course I told her it was fine.

do a search on the board for t-shirts, im sure that will bring up some helpful threads. Otherwise, you could stick with my design. Names on the front (lots of attention) and a funny saying on the back...

Good Luck!

Wow I'm glad I found this thread! I'll be in Disney for my 27th next year :D
