A Guide to Going to Disney on Your Birthday!

Hi All! Going to be at Disney for BF's 30th July 4th week. His first Disney trip :earboy2: Can you recommend a nice (romantic) place for dinner that might serve a cake and how do I go about getting a res there with just 7 weeks until our trip? Also, I have a sneeking suspicion that I may get engaged on this trip :cheer2:

Cinderella's Royal Table (dinner) In Cinderella's Castle

Make the ressie for about 8:00 and the fireworks should go off right outside the castle after you finish dinner.
Make the ressie ASAP these dinners sell out quickly.

You could also try Victoria and Alberts, but i doubt youd get in, it sells out 90 days in advance....

This is my advice, hope it helps!

This is a great thread! Thanks for starting it! We will be celebrating my DS 5th birthday and my DH 40th birthday when we go in June! Very excited! Already have t-shirts for all of us in the making! Also have reservations for the Family Magic Tour at MK, with lunch at the Castle following...ending the evening with dinner and cake at Chef Mickey's! Absolutely cannot wait! Also plan on picking up the big birthday cake hat at DTD our first night there so they can both wear it on their birthday's!

Skeebs514: Good luck!!!

Id be nervous as heck if i thought my BF was gonna propose!! Dont forget to pull out all the stops and look beautiful!

I can't wait. I will be celebrating my 40 something birthday next Monday (5/23) in the MK. We will be eating the night before at 'Ohana (and watching Wishes). We got the Castle for Lunch on 5/23 and CP for dinner. Will also be doing the Tea in GF, lunch in Canada and the PSB during the week. We will be spending 2 nights in CS, a few nights with my boyfriends father (who lives in Orlando) and 2 nights with friends of ours from NY that moves to Jupiter a few years ago. I just can't wait. I am planning on getting all the buttons from all the parks and pixie dust in my hair in MK. I might even do face painting in one of the other parks. Thanks to all on these boards for all the help in planning this trip. We usually go to WDW at least twice a year but this year I wanted to eat and stay in different places.

Best wishes to all the birthday (and un-birthday) people on the board and have a Magical trip.
Linda

( I need a birthday icon to add to my post)

i already made ressies for july for fw cabins and ps for chef mickeys... is it too late to call back and add the 2 bdays we'll be celebrating??

I have PS for Chef Mickeys and Princess Story Book Dinner. I want to celebrate my soon to be 3 YO DDs at Chef Mickeys and my soon to be 6YO DD at Princess dinner. I didn't mention that at the time of making PS. Can I tell them when we get to the restaurants? I will make sure that they each have a pin for that particular day.

A magical moments certificate is given out when a Cast Member deems a moment Magical. This can happen for a birthday, a wedding, a honeymoon, your child's first <fill in the blank>. They are meant dock a moment, to make a magical moment even more magical. The only thing is, you CAN NOT request a certificate be given to you. It just has to happen.

The certificate is signed by the cast member with the date and why the moment is magical.

I have mine framed, and on a wall.

Hope this helps!

Ah, I remember when I got my magical moments certificate. I was in w heelchair (because I----go ahead, laugh----was sliding across the floor in my socks, fell, and broke my leg) and a CM at MGM was pushing me down to the front for Fantasmic!.....She was so nice and friendly and seemed so concerned about my leg. About 5 minutes before the show started, a different CM walks down the steps and gives me the certificate which was for "courage." It was so awesome and I almost started crying. :goodvibes It was a good day.

Here's a pic of the MK and MGM pin.

:)

We did all the right things (aside from the shirts) and got nothing. Nada. We even had the pin on our daughter, but not one CM mentioned it, the hotel didn't do anything and at 'Ohana (our favorite restaurant) we practically had to beg them to sing for her (yes, it was on the PS).

Just wanted people to know that all of the things mentioned in the original post MAY happen, but don't go there expecting everything on there.

Wow! I cannot believe that not one single CM gave your daughter special attention!! How old was she? I'm glad you mentioned this because I am very excited about my DS 5th birthday and celebrating at WDW and I want him to get LOTS of extra special attention....so now I better start backing off on the excitement so that my bubble doesn't get burst if it doesn't happen! :sad2: Maybe you should have chosen a character meal that caters more to kids...although, there shouldn't be any excuse for Disney not making you feel magical on your birthday no matter where you eat!

I would call and have it noted on the PS. A little advance notice wouldn't hurt. Also, have it noted on your room ressie as well.

We celebrated our DS's 5th bday in Dec. at MK. We started out with breakfast at CP, where our CM was very attentive (threw streamers and confetti on us at the table). He got a cupcake with a candle and we all sang for him. They gave him a lamented placemat with all of the characters siggies that were there.

Later in the day we stopped for the Sword in the Stone Ceremony to the rear of the castle. Merlin the Magician picked my son out of the crowd to be the one to pull out the sword. I'm sure it was because he had is bday button on, as he was not raising his hand to volunteer or anything. He was shy about it at first but later thought it was way cool.

We went to Chef Mickey's for the bday dinner and again got the cupcake and placemat, and Donald was with us while we sang and helped to blow out the candle.

We rounded out the day with an Illuminations Cruise, which was a wonderful way to enjoy the show.

When we got back to our resort, a card from Tigger and the gang was waiting in our room for him.

We are going back for our DD's 5th bday in '07. I can't wait!!

She was turning 14. She's very bright, bublby and talkative to the CM's too, but zippo, nada, bupkus.

SeattleMark is right.

It doesnt always happen.

I've been there, I've seen it.

Let me explain...

My and I are boisterous individuals. I myself am very tall, and not a tiny girl. I command attention (or so im told) when i enter a room.

If you are a shy, meek person. And you interact with ONLY your family at Disney. More than likely, NONE of this will happen.

On every ride I've ever been on at Disney, I speak with the CM's, ask them how theyre doing, whats new, ask them to tell me a secret, ask if i can have their hat, mess with them. Because, well the line are long and I get bored. But 9 times out of 10 this creates an opportunity for that CM to go above and beyond. Now im not saying that I ONLY communicate with CM's for this reason. Im just friendly. Disney just happens to be the place for overly-friendly people. They respond to it.

Me and my friends are those kids in line who start singing along to whatever is playing for background music. We are the ones who when we have a great tour guide on the great movie ride, or Jungle cruise we chant their name. We can be found calling Captain Hook a codfish, running up to Woody with a scared look and telling him "woody! somebodies poisoned the water hole!" We spend hours in the backlots and sets at MGM just playing around with plastic squirt guns pretending we're in a movie.

If your the type of person whos sees 20-somethings doing these things and instantly rolls thier eyes, and tells your DH how childish they are.

A disney birthday is not a good idea for you.

If your the type of person, who smiles, laughs and is overjoyed by seeing things like this, a Disney birthday is for you, and you'll probably get what your expecting out of it.

yes sometimes, The hotel cm's dont follow through. And sometimes you get a crappy server who could care less if its your birthday. Thats life.

I didnt write this to say, 'This Will Happen to Everyone No Matter What' Its just what I do, and its worked for the past 20 years of my life.

SeattleMark: im so sorry it didnt work for you. Next time you go, if your going for a birthday, PM me, and id be more than happy to talk with you about what your doing, and how you can get more attention - If thats what you want. heck i have an annual pass, i'll even rent myself out.....

I just didnt think people realized what your options are when going to Disney on your birthday, and I wanted to let them know about their options..

Wow! I am blown away by your efforts and excitement! We will be arriving end of August on my twin daughters' 6th birthday, as well as my own:). It's a big day for us anyway but to be spending it at WDW...My girls are so excited and I'd like to make it xtra special. No problem with liking attention here. Any other tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks again. :earsboy: :earsgirl:

My DD turned 5 on Saturday. Thanks to this thread, I think we got every magical bday experience offered! Here's what we did.

Before the trip, I made sure that her bday was noted on our room ressie and our PS's at the Perfectly Princess Tea party (for Friday, since they don't have it on Saturday), breakfast at CRT, and dinner at Chef Mickey's. I mentioned her birthday again when we checked in, and it's a good thing I did. I watched the CM write the date and her favorite character down, so I figured *something* would come our way. I doubt anything would have happened had I not said something at check-in, though.

Each time I dropped the hint, I was careful to engage the CMs in conversation first and then casually mention why we were at WDW (without DH and DS), not just say, "It's DD's bday, so please give her something." Not that any of us would actually say that, but as a former CM, I know that attitudes like that get old fast.

I think it also helped that DD was feeling very outgoing this trip. She spoke with each CM who engaged her in conversation, and her excitement about turning 5 seemed to be infectious.

Although I made her a t-shirt with an iron-on proclaiming it to be her bday and she was wearing 3 bday buttons from MK and Epcot, I learned not to rely on those to get the CMs' attention. They see so many people each day, that sometimes they fail to notice the visual cues. For example DD spoke with Ariel for quite a while, but Ariel failed to see her bday shirt/buttons until DD came out and told her it was her birthday. (Appropriate fussing and oohs and ahs ensued.)

Finally, I tried to schedule the earliest possible PSs for all of our special meals. I knew the servers and characters would probably be at their freshest and most enthusiastic.

We enjoyed the most special attention at the more unusual places to celebrate kids' bdays. The tea party, although absolutely wonderful, was the site for multiple Princess birthdays. We sang Happy Birthday as a group, but no one knew who the birthday girls were. CRT was also very nice, with table decorations, an excellent mini birthday cake and some bday wishes from our server and the princesses. Chef Mickey's celebrated everybody's special occasions as a group, with the Celebrate song, but she did get her own cupcake and candle with Minnie there to witness. We got the birthday placemats at both CRT and Chef Mickey's. Very nice moments all, but kind of expected and not as "magical" as some of our other moments.

She got the most special attention at Everything Pop, Main Street USA, and Le Cellier. At Everything Pop merchandise, a CM noticed her Aurora costume. DD talked with her a while and mentioned that the next day was her birthday. She wanted to do a pin trade, but the CM just gave it to her instead of trading. Then the CM had Goofy sing Happy Birthday to her on the phone and gave her a Magical Moments certificate signed by Goofy. In the food court, another CM DD spoke with learned it was her bday and sang to her in Spanish.

The best was dinner at Le Cellier. When we checked in (at 4:10!), I mentioned that her birthday was the next day and that she had chosen this restaurant because she loved the chocoalte moose last time. She ended up becoming a "Jr Chef" and getting to assemble her own moose, with the help of Chef David. She also got a birthday card from the entire staff.

On her actual birthday morning, we were walking down Main Street to get to our 8:05 CRT PS. There was a group of CMs in training of some sort. One of the group leaders noticed her Cinderella costume and started talking to her. Of course DD mentioned that it was her bday, so the CM told her that she had some royal subjects here and had the whole group (25 or so) sing to her! She also gave her a pin from her lanyard without trading for it.

As we settled in for our nap that afternoon, I mentally patted myself on the back, reflected on our good luck, and thanked this board for all of the great ideas. After basking in the feeling of being the "Bestest mommy in the whole entire world" (her words, not mine), I heard a knock on the door. DD was still asleep, but when she woke up, she saw the balloons and autographed photo card of Cinderella that Pop Century had provided.

The only downside of all this was DD asking me, "Is my birthday ruined now forever?" Yes, I guess she's peaked at the ripe old age of 5.

That's great. See my bday will be going on during our trip. I am not going to have any trouble at all when I call for ps or whatever else and say it's my bday. It is supposed to be fun. Why not let everyone know. Even if you will be 31...

I did mention when I made a few of our PSs for August that we are celebrating DS becoming a teenager!

Im sitting here with tears in my eyes. (yeah im a sap) I cant just cant believe my advice helped you with this. I am so incredibly glad you had a nice time. Seriously, this has just made my whole day.

As far as your daughter being ruined.... Well... I am ruined, i cant have a birthday anywhere else. Disney is the place and (at least for me) it gets better and better every year. As your daughter gets older (and taller for that matter) picking her out of a crowd will be easier for the CM's. I'm 6 feet tall....So its easy to see me from far away, especially when I'm decorated with birthday pins and the birthday shirts. Next time, have everyone wear a shirt... not just your DD. If your shirt says "Im celebrating my Daughters birthday!" She'll be noticed more.

If you PM me your address, I'll send your daughter something special..... :)

This whole thread just warms my heart.

Thanks for sharing!!!
