A Girl Just Put on Deodorant in my Classroom

I agree, home life and common courtesy go a long way. Some people also have no boundaries. If it was just that, it is NOTHING compared to what others have seen or done.

It actually sounds discreet in a way. My school has locked bathrooms in certain times of the day for various reasons. There is always an emergency bathroom on another floor but you need an escort to go there. Students don't want that so they don't bother.

Based on some of the responses on this thread, I am not surprised that a child felt it was OK to put deodorant on in the classroom.

We truly have lost all sense of propriety.

I prefer to do my personal hygiene at home or in the privacy of the ladies room. That includes flossing, "wisping", feminine spraying, bathing. showering, applying make-up etc.

But then again, I';d also like to think I have some class, so maybe that's the difference.

Teachers have preps and breaks! They don't sleep on a cot in their classroom. Are your kids doing homework 100% of the time? Not trying to be rude but seriously She can do whatever she wants in her classroom with her free time. Teachers don't teach from 730 to 230 straight.

As for op- I would rather her quickly put deodorant on than to stink to high heaven. At least she cares enough not to smell in public. I carry a stick in the car for when I forget in the am.

I do too. There have been a few times I have forgotten to put deodorant on while getting ready at home. I just keep a travel size stick in my car. I know several people who keeps sticks in their desks or work lockers at workplaces.

I work in a doctors office. As we were sitting there at my desk doing paperwork a girl reached into her purse and put deodorant on. I was surprised and amused but like someone else said, its better to use it than not!

Wow. There are a lot of people with low standards here. I just asked my 8 yr old if she thought it was okay to do that. She told me it was innapropriate . Good to know my children won't be skeeving anyone out or raising eyebrows with rude behavior like that. I am floored that anyone thinks it was okay.

I say good for the girl who put on the deodorant!!!

My gosh -- I know my DD has three minutes between classes and she's lucky to be able to get dressed sometimes after gym and literally run to her next class that is far away. I'm thrilled for this girl that she went to the effort. She could have just skipped it altogether and then you'd be complaining about how bad she smells. Good for her!

(and some of my DD's teachers count them off points if they ask to use the restroom -- so you bet I'd put deodorant on in class!)

Didn't read the responses, but in my kids high school there is not enough time between classes to go to a locker or the restroom - you have like 2 minutes to get to your next class. If she suddenly realized she forgot to apply deodorant I would rather she apply it then smell!

The young woman sitting directly next to me on the plane a couple weeks ago put deoderant on while she was sitting in her seat. What's odd is that she got up to go to the bathroom just minutes before. Why didn't she take her purse with her and apply her deoderant there? I thought it was odd that she did it right in her seat like that. To me that is something you do in the bathroom, in private.

Your kids are very lucky to have classes close together. Most kids have classes spread out and barely have enough time to make to the next session/period.

Also, sometimes restrooms are closed during school because of problem kids.
