Since we are in the 11 month window for our next trip my DH and I were talking about our trip plans. He asked if I could ask on the dis boards where we could go that would have a good selection of beer to stock our Home Away from Home fridge with. I asked on the Budget Board and got no answer so I figured I would try with my fellow DVC'ers I figure some of you must go off site to get taste beverages. We do do a grocery run so if the beer and the groceries are in the same store or at least the same area that is a plus. Last trip we went to the Super-Walmart and the beer selection was lame. Thanks for any help.

We always stop at Publix on 192 on our way in. They have a good selection, and it's one stop shopping. :)

There is an ABC store about 6 mins away....head towards Crossroads (Goodings) make a left at the light and it is 2 lights up on your right....SSB was able to get my absolute favorite Beer....Blackened Voodoo for me there....Good luck..

Oooohhh......Blackened Voodoo....one of my DH favorates. Thanks for the help it sounds like we might be going to the ABC store. :-)

There is also 7-11, any grocery store, some gas stations and they are all less expensive than that ABC store. Oh, Wal*Mart too.

Gail, yes those places do have beer...but for my husband selection is the key. :D He said this morning he didn't want to have such a narrow selection as they had at Walmart for our next trip. Yes he is a bit of a beer snob. ;) But I love him so here I am looking for good beer for him 11 months ahead of our trip.

I am going to try to say this very carefully.

I recognize that Goodings is very overpriced, and if I wanted to get a typical batch of groceries it is a bad choice.

However, Goodings has a good selection of beer, including things like Belgian triples, lots of imports, wide selection of microbrews.

We had a tiffany town car driver insist on taking us to kash and karry because they had a good selection and would cost much less than Goodings, where we wanted to go. Plus, there was a liquor store right next door if they didn't have what we wanted. The selection at both was pitiful; we ended up with some guiness and bass and negro modelo, none of which are bad, but it was the best thing offered. They had some sam adams, that was the sort of microbrew selection. The selection at Goodings was so much better.

Don't misunderstand me, I would never recommend grocery shopping at Goodings, but for beer the selection is good and the location is convenient. If he is a beer snob, this is a pretty good place to go. I'm not sure what the publix selection is, it may be as good; but I do know the Goodings selection is better than the average grocery or discount store.

Also, the crew's cup in the yacht club (adjacent to the steakhouse, NOT the bar off the main lobby) has a pretty decent assortment of bottled beers. Probably the widest selection on property, though many are fairly basic lagers. But there are some good ones there. Big River should be having a wheat by now or soon. They tend to have a porter in the winter and a wheat in the spring, so it's hard to say what might be there in 11 months (besides the usual lineup).

Also you can get a lineup of 7 ounce drafts of rose and crown (guiness, bass, harp, tennets, boddingtons) and that is pretty good!

d-r thanks for your info. Yeah I can understand going to a different place for a good selection of beer then you do for groceries (heck we do that at home) so we will keep Goodings in mind just for beer....not for anything else. ;)
I didn't know about the crew's cup I will pass that along to DH so he knows. We have been to Rose and Crown and he had the line up of beers and he thought it was really great....plus it was on St. Patricks Day very few things could top it. :bounce:

Another good option is a draft Key West Sunset Ale at the Gurgling Suitcase at Old Key West. They used to have this fine brew at Vero Beach's Green Cabin, but alas, it is no longere there.
Enjoy,
Steve in Iowa

I completely understand that. :) Dee is a cigar snob, no smelly cheapie ones for him. :)

Ooh, WDW is usually such an awful place for a beer snob... does anyplace nearby sell single beers? The Publix didn't and a six-pack was too much for me on a weekend trip.

The Screen Door on the Boardwalk has a so-so selection of beer and they sell singles.
I had some Anchor Steam last year and I think they were about 2.50 each. Not terrible for WDW...

If your headed up to ABC liquor or the Winn Dixie on SR 535, just before you get there is the Orlando Ale House. Worth a stop for the beer lover. Also cheap(non resort pricing) and imho good eats.:) Often overlooked by resort guests. It does tend to get noisy in the evenings.

Goodings has some one liter bottles of Belgians.

I second HorizonsFan about the screendoor- sometimes I think that is one of the best values around, 2.50 for a bass-

Hello everyone,

I am the TandyR's DH. I do plan to go to Goodings when we are down this coming February, so thanks to everyone for their advice.

I did want to chip in one my own own experiences in the Orlando area. When I was down for a conference a few years ago, and then more recently during our Disney trip two years ago, I very much enjoyed the Cricketer's Arms. This is a nice little English pub in the mall at Via Mercado and International Drive. They have a good selection of beers and reasonable food. When I was alone in Orlando on business for a week I must confess to spending several of my evenings at the Arms drinking one or another excellent Fuller's products.

If you can get away from property for a few hours in the evening, I would strongly suggest this nice little place. The "Guinness World of Records" is right out front and a cute little putt-putt golf is down the road a bit.

The Poly gift shop has the best selection of take out beer that I have seen (on site). They even sell their imports as a 6 pack for around $9.

I haven't been in Evilings errr... Goodings in a few years. Last time I wasn't too impressed with the beer choices.

Belgians you say? Hmmm may have to give it another shot.

I agree - Walmart stinks.

We hit an Albertosn's coming in from the airport on Organge Blossom that didn't have a lot of choices but did have a few gems. A Chocolate Stout that was very nice, Siera Navada Pale, Ale, Guiness, Sammy.

I am still looking for the Holy Grail of beer stores, lots of great domestic micro brews. This is my quest but so far real beers are few and far between.

I think we beed a beer guide like the menu guides. Nothing with the words, lite, light or ice allowed.

Hey, we folks who enjoy beer sometimes have to drink the diet beer. I look for the kind with "0" fat grams. :)

I agree - Walmart stinks.

Only in its beer selection. :) The wine selection is not bad.
