9/10 yr old girl christmas gifts???

Seeing all the post about tech stuff makes me so sad :sad2: Don't kids enjoy anything except having their faces buried in a screen anymore? I'm thinking of turning our unfinished basement into a huge creative area for our kids (8&9) for Christmas this year. I'll get giant appliance cardboard boxes, all kinds of craft supplies, hot glue gun, etc. Throw in some random tubes and miscellaneous items and they can play all day! My 8 year old son has many real tools so I think a tool bench would go well in there also, also with several random boards and containers of nails and screws.

Last year I bought tons of PVC piping, connectors, and sheets and they have really enjoyed building their own forts, tunnels, etc. All the neighborhood kids love playing with it. Kids can really get creative when they pull their head away from a screen for awhile :thumbsup2

Well...our 9 year old girl is getting a trip to WDW this Christmas.:cool1:

We will be there the same week but we are arriving Friday am :)

OP - My DD is 10, will be 11 in March. I got her so far:

Mini Bedazzler with refills
Roomates Graphic Flower peel and stick wall decals to decorate her room
Puffy paint - I will get some plain haines cotton t-shirts to go along with this
Fashion Headband set thing (she's really in to crafts etc)

I just started so not a lot yet. She likes shoes so I will get her some of those. I always get socks and underwear. I will get a few new outfits etc. Also will probably pick up a few things in Disney and ship them home.

I have a 7yr old turning 8 in Jan :sad2: She loves Monster High Dolls! But she has all the dolls... She is getting an iPod touch(just like big sis DD9) as her big gift, with a gift card to download her favorite shows or movies. Have you seen the Xai Xai hermit crab things? they are cute i dont know much about them except that TRU sent an email dedicated to telling me they were the new hot toy :confused3 i may get some.

They must be because I was there this morning and they were all sold out and there was a lady there franticly looking for specific colors.
I can honestly say I don't miss the days of having tio track down the hot new toy for dd.

My G(od)dd is 9 and I got her an AG craft set and a couple AG books to go with it.

For me, I like to give the things for Christmas I wouldn't go out and normally buy them. If my kids wanted to make a huge fort in the family room, I'd take them to HD to get the stuff we needed. My kids have tons of tools and dh has a garage full of stuff to put together, take apart and re-build again.
We don't buy video games and ipods, or game systems except for Christmas.

My daughter is going to be the only 10 year old without an Ipod touch I think ;) I'm either really cheap or just a bad mother :)

We do 4 gifts: thing you want, thing you need, thing you wear, thing you read. I think her thing you want will be a scooter (not electric - she wants the one she has to make move)

DD10 doesn't have one, either. :) After using older brother's old ipod for a year and a half (after he got an iTouch ) we finally upgraded her ipod this year for her birthday and got her her own new nano.:)

I'm glad you asked because I'm struggling!

Right now, I've planned on a Nook and a b&n gift card....some Lego sets (she likes to build with her brothers), Disney GC, and then...I'm stuck!

I won, hands down. DD is 11 and does not have an Ipod touch. She is asking for it this Christmas but her sister and her had decided months ago all they wanted for Christmas was Universal Annual Passes. That's what their getting because I booked 2 night at RPR to surprise them with. I also just bought her an underwater camera at Costco and a Fijit.

Our 10yo DD wants the Vera Bradley lunch bag, Brighton bracelet and charms, gift card to Claire's and we always get her craft things. Michaels has these $2 to $4 wooden puzzles she enjoys and she also likes to make origami and paint. That's all we have heard about lately. Off to read this thread to get some ideas. We are not sure of the amount we are spending this year but probably about $150.

we are taking a family trip (with grandparents and aunt) to WDW for DD's 10th birthday the week before Christmas. because of this, we'd already discussed having smaller birthdays and Christmas this year.

DD is getting the Lego Millenium Falcon for Christmas. it's what she wanted specifically. she'll also get some smaller things, but that will be about it.

I'm impressed by everyone's Christmas spending budgets. I have an 11 year old and an 8 year old who's birthday is the day after Christmas and she'll be 9. I haven't even considered getting them an I-touch as much as they beg. We are going to WDW right before Thanksgiving and that's part of their gifts. For Christmas/birthday my youngest is getting a tv for her room. My oldest is getting a computer printer which isn't very costly. The rest of their gifts are craft kits/supplies, board games, clothes, nothing terrible expensive. I would estimate our budget per girl is about $150 for Christmas and then $100 for her birthday.

:goodvibes We are not going to WDW for Christmas :sad1: This year we are able to spend more than in previous years  pretty excited! I think this thread is awesome in giving ideas for 9/10 year old girls TWEENS

Will have to check out the hermit crab thingies. Seriously considering the Fijit though! Thanks for the ideas. Keep them coming!

:goodvibes crafty things are a huge plus as well! A kit for friendship bracelets, or those lanyard keychain things, theres a huge selection at Michaels of craft things for girls I was just there Sunday buying b-day gift for DD friend

Your daughter sounds a lot like my daughter. She will be 9 1/2. She will be Laura Ingalls for Halloween. :)

I just wanted to jump on and subscribe as I have a DD who turns 9 right before Christmas.

So far we're thinking about getting her a Kindle and an Amazon gift card. She is a voracious reader and we can't keep her in books fast enough! Also, some wikki stixs, Harry Potter Lego castle, itunes gift card (so she can put some favorite songs on the family ipod), a chocolate melting/molding kit, origami paper and books, and maybe a non-electric scooter.

We're going to tell her Grandma who sews to just send her a bunch of her old scraps of cloth and a sewing kit because she loves to make clothes and such for her stuffed animals.

I felt the same about the i-Pods last year, this year I decided I could trust them. I heard theres parental settings as well. Or you could block the internet usage by locking the wi-fi. As for books with no vampires:

Goddess Girls books -modern spin on classic myths (they look fun I am going to add one to DD9s stocking)

FaithGirlz - Boarding School Mysteries

A Gifted Girls Series

Creative Girls Club Mystery Book Series

Good Luck! =)

Thanks! These look interesting. I'm going to write these down and check them out!:goodvibes

Nope- this 9 year old won't have one when she's 10- only a couple months after christmas... I didn't really know that there were a lot of parental controls on the touch, and I will remember that! I do have her Nano pretty well protected. She doesn't realize yet that technically I don't have to download and sync for her. I know that she wants the touch to play games (she has a ds) and to do her own downloading. While we spoil her in a lot of ways, we are VERY picky about her music, tv shows, movies, well basically media stuff. I think our kids grow up too fast because of what they see and hear. I do greatly appreciate the info others shared about the ipod touch, but I'm thinking maybe Christmas NEXT year or her 11th birthday.:flower3:

I like this idea! I haven't seen these but DD will love this! She loves crafty things-:hippie:

PS I know I have 3 posts in a row, but I haven't taken the time to figure out multiple quotes in a post.

What a great idea to get DD some scraps of cloth to sew!! I'm going to steal that idea if you don't mind for my DD10!

And I forgot to post we will get DD books too. Also going to make her some sock cupcakes that I found the idea from the Budget Board Homemade presents thread.
