9/10 yr old girl christmas gifts???

Wow thanks for the ideas. We have an ipod touch and for those thinking about it do it! It has been wonderful. Really the best gift she ever got. Ok, someone please clue me in about Monster high???? What is that?
I was also thinking AG but wasn't sure if this was still a good age for it. Sounds like it is, so may look that route. Going to have to check out that Disneyland Kinect game too. We have been toying around buying a Kinect for a joint gift. Keep the ideas coming!

DD is 10 and wants a 3DSI, Nook, American Girl doll (not sure which one yet and I will let gramma buy that for her as she already has 7 of them), squinkies, Littlest Pet Shops, and a charm bracelet. I will probably also get her gift cards (Disney, Justice) and new soccer gear.

DD loves pet shops and squinkies. I was just thinking they weren't really for her age bracket anymore. So I guess they are then? I don't like this age! LOL:rotfl:

WOW!! Where do you people work? My DD has a bday the beginning of Dec. and then Christmas. She is possibly getting a DSi but that is Grandma's doing. We're thinkng of taking them to see Lion King on Broadway and spending the weekend in the cities in Jan. And a few small things: an outfit, books, and an art kit of some sort. Spending at this time or at any time is getting way out of control!! As for bday, no clue yet. Oh, yeah. She wants footed pjs for some reason. I guess I can manage that!!

I was just thinking the same thing. (where do you guys work). I just spent the weekend with 2 of my grandsons, ages 6 and 8. The parents went on a small trip. My oldest grandson just had a BD party with 12 kids. I do not know how much it cost, but they went to one of those places that have laser tag, and the other stuff. He received 8 sets of lego's. Now I am not talking small sets. These had to cost at least 30 dollars a set. He has a queen size bed with the drawers under it. Two whole drawers were filled with legos. Are you kidding me! I decided I was not going to contribute to the toy piles this year. He has had an I-pod touch for 2 years now. I have no idea what I am going to do for gifts. I think one gift will be a certificate to an amusement park near by, that Grandpa and I can take all 4 grandkids to. They have EVERYTHING. I can't buy them clothes, because they only let them where GAP, including underwear, and I think that is ridiculous. So this is going to be a very interesting Christmas. Just went to a speaker, and she said, take all the kid toys and cut them in half, then cut that pile in half again. Then take what is left and put half away for 6 months, then rotate them with the other remaining pile. Growing up, I had 1 barbie doll, not even the real one, my daughter had 3 or 4, grandkids have a full tub of them, and do not even play with them. It is just crazy!:scared1:

My daughter (9 in a couple of weeks) is getting a new pair of UGG boots and her first iPod.

okay, let's keep this thread going. DD9 - 10 in march has been hard this year. She wants a kindle , or an ipod touch. I have said NO to the touch- don't want her to have the wireless access when she's not with me, and she has a perfectly good nano w/ camera, video, etc. I had already made up my mind that I'd get her the cheaper kindle, now I see the touch kindles are coming out soon. However, she now wants the AG doll of the year and accessories. I told her okay , but no kindle. Her response was OK- my real issue is she has 2 AG dolls, a my twinn, and since June, a Disney Girl doll. G mother bought 1 AG, and the my twinn, santa brought one AG, and she purchased her disney girl out of her B-day money. How many dolls of this type does one girl need? Am I out of line saying no? (Money isn't really an issue as she's an only child, and we have a small family to buy for).
That being said, Justice and clothes will be part of her christmas as I didn't do much school shopping knowing that most of last years winter clothes have been outgrown.
 I would love some book ideas though- (NO VAMPIRE series PLEASE- she's a fairly advanced reader, but I do want the subject matter age approprate ) and little gift ideas. She's a girly girl- but go back to that only child thing- she has everything!! Her aunts and g'parents spoil her at holidays and birthday- Gotta love them though!:lovestruc

 I have 3 girls and 2 stepsons, we live by the 'budget'... This is our first 'bigger' Christmas ever because we decided to cut out many of the extra gifts that we use to buy because it was on sale, looked cool, thought our kids would like, or even because we were trying to even out the 'number' of gifts for each kid! We ended up with SOOOO much crap!! That doesnt even include the additional gifts extended family buy for our kids, they end up with so much they throw most of it to the side by the day after Christmas and let me tell you when one of those thrown to the side gifts were something I spent time researching (like zhu zhu pets) and chased after it hurt my feelings :guilty:

DD9 and DD7 are getting i-Pod touches this year but their paternal grandma is pitching in $200 towards them so Ill only spend $100 plus tax on each.

My budget for 4 of my kids is approx $200 each I will not go over that, and more than likely stay under. My stepson that does not live with us is around $100 or under, his mom doesnt like us to send his gifts home to her house because she says he has EVERYTHING, and well he does  So we usually buy him things he can play with DS5(stepson) that lives with us, he does not spend Christmas morning with us so theres no comparing =)

I wouldnt know what to do with a budget any larger what would my kids do with even MORE stuff they wont play with?

What about The Little House on the Prairie series? :) Or any of the American Girl books?

I felt the same about the i-Pods last year, this year I decided I could trust them. I heard theres parental settings as well. Or you could block the internet usage by locking the wi-fi. As for books with no vampires:

Goddess Girls books -modern spin on classic myths (they look fun I am going to add one to DD9s stocking)

FaithGirlz - Boarding School Mysteries

A Gifted Girls Series

Creative Girls Club Mystery Book Series

Good Luck! =)

My DD10 got an iPod Touch for Christmas last year and I have a LOT of restrictions on it. It's linked to an Apple ID that only I and DH have the password to so she has to ask permission to download anything. Also, I replaced the Safari internet browser with a free kid-safe internet browser to restrict any possible adult content that may show up. We continually monitor her usage and what she's looking at and she has been very responsible with it.

OHH how did you take the safari off and add a new browser? What browser did you use? PERFECT!

This is our year of electronics, since I have learned my lesson in years past I will be opening the kids iPods and LeapPads and setting them up before Christmas! So when they open their gifts on Christmas morning, not sure how I am going to repackage it all, but they will be ready to be played with dragged from family house to familys house lol

I think it's called K9 browser and it was free and does exactly what I want it too. I deleted Safari off of there just by holding it until it wiggles and has the delete button. Then I moved the K9 app down to where Safari was. It works great so far!

:cool1: THANK YOU!! Sounds easy enough :goodvibes

My DD is 8 and its hard to find things for her too. She likes Monster High Dolls, Littlest Pet Shops, and thats about it!!! When asked what she wants for christmas, she just says "whatever".....UGH! She did ask for an American Girl Doll, but she has NEVER played with dolls and i am hesitant about paying that much for a doll she may or may not play with. She LOVES electronics and stuff, so she may get some DS games, She has a desktop computer, so no lap top for her, I pod Touch may be something to get her. DH wanted to get her a Pink Flat Screen TV for her bedroom, but im just not sure if she'd like getting that under the tree....I really dont like this age!!!

Would board games or crafty things appeal to her? K-nex? Acrylic Paints and some canvases?

I also get each DD a Christmas ornament relating to their interests each year. Barbies, Fairies, favorite Disney characters, favorite animals. Last year I was so pleased to find a Smores Lewis & Clark & Sacagawea ornament for my Lewis & Clark buff. The Sacagawea even has a little marshmallow papoose!

Sometimes when I'm looking for inspiration I go to Amazon, to the toys & games, and then to the age group I'm looking for. Sometimes I find stuff I would never have thought of myself. Last Christmas lots of kids including DD were doing string figures with yarn loops (eg Cat's Cradle) so I got DD a string figures instructional book so she could learn more. Klutz books are usually good. Something to get them away from the screen time :goodvibes

Last year DD10 asked for cheeseballs, so DH got her the giant tub of cheeseballs at Target. She was excited! Along with a purple flashlight to keep by her bed. Comes in handy when the electricity goes out. Sometimes it's the simpler things that make a good gift.

I would also like to come up with ideas of gifts that get used up- something you don't have to keep forever because they have so much stuff! And they never want to get rid of anything! Actually they do still play with a lot of it- maybe not for its intended use, but they are good at using their imagination and repurposing things. DD13 will make a Build-A-Bear car or a Barbie trap with K-nex and then they use it in a story line with them. So it's hard to get rid of things they might be able to use, and I don't want to add much more to the stash!

I have a 7yr old turning 8 in Jan :sad2: She loves Monster High Dolls! But she has all the dolls... She is getting an iPod touch(just like big sis DD9) as her big gift, with a gift card to download her favorite shows or movies. Have you seen the Xai Xai hermit crab things? they are cute i dont know much about them except that TRU sent an email dedicated to telling me they were the new hot toy :confused3 i may get some.
