It was priceless....made it worth keeping the secret. BUT, it was hard, and I don't think I'd be able to pull it off again. My parents are cruising with us on the EB repo, and they would NOT have been able to keep this a secret...so we didn't even try this time!

BTW....are you hoping to adopt internationally? I know several people that have adopted from Russia with great success.

We are actually going through the state, and working with a private agency here in St. Louis. We're working to become foster parents evetually as well. We really just want to adopt first though. Then we'll look into foster placements. (after the cruise! LOL...does that sound horrible?!?!)

Thanks for all of the thoughts. You've all basically affirmed what I was already inclined to do. Sometimes it's not easy to do what you know in your heart is the right thing. But you've all reinforced what I knew in my own heart I had to do. Thanks! :thumbsup2

As for the discussion about telling/not telling your kids about the cruise, here's my thought. We're hoping that telling won't be an issue for us. (we're really hoping that we get a baby when we get our adoption placement.) But if we do get a child who is old enough to comprehend what's going on, I think we like the idea of waiting as long as we can to tell them. (although I cannot imagine being able to wait until the day we fly out!! :scared1: )

Kudos to you, buckifan for being able to do that! I'm sure that look on your kids' faces was amazing!!

I could see maybe letting them know at Christmas or something. We'll just wait and see. :)

I just wanted to add my .02 - I agree with everyone else (and you!), don't lie outright - it's not worth it.

I remember someone having problems with either a foster child or incomplete adoption paperwork at boarding. I'm thinking the situation was resolved favorably in the end, BUT, I can understand why you would prefer to wait 'til after the cruise.

No it doesn't - besides you don't know when the adoption will come through and you need time for you new family to adjust to the changes.

Hopfully they are not rude, proffesional practise is if any booknig is with a T/A they do the calls and work for information for you, thats why DCL pays them commsion, it should cut their work as the T/A should be able to cvoer most things.

I personally think the GTY's will not get assigned until just after the 90 day pay up mark.

This isnt anything to worry about just gives DCL the most flexibility in assignment of rooms.

If someone for example has three room requests, on GTY where family would like to be together, they would try to do that, now they know some people will cancel, but they do not know who, so if they assigned a room to you, and the people around you were the ones that cancelled out, you would then block the three room request.

So again it gives them flexibility to move people around on their penciled in lists.

True, but there is nothing to stop DCL from switching you if you were originally GTY. There was someone on our last cruise that was switched 3 times before we left.

Hi everyone- My family will be joining you on the EB Repo as well. We were on board the Magic on the 31st, so we booked while on board- Actually I was at the pool while Leslie, the sales manager, booked for me! I have been lurking the boards almost daily since our first cruise in 06, but i rarely post as most questions are usually answered already! On the repo, it will be myself, DH, DD now 6 and DS now 3. I just hope I can keep up with the posts. When I returned last week, I never dreamed the thread would be this long! Better jump in now before I really get behind. Looking forward to cruising with such a great group!:yay:

WELCOME

OK, so totally off topic...
But I have a question. Would any of you lie for your boss if it kept him/her out of trouble? I mean, not a HUGE lie...
(I'll just give you a hypothetical...;) :rolleyes1  ) :
Let's say your boss is going through a divorce, he's recently started seeing a woman who lives across state (like a 4-5 hour drive). They take turns on the weekends coming back and forth to see each other. For business, he had to drive yesterday to a city that is between where he lives (we'll call it city A) and where she lives (city B). He was supposed to be back at work today. But he's not because he decided last night that he was going to drive the rest of the distance to city B. He calls his employee  (from girlfriends's house in Kansas City...(OOPS!! mean city B)and says "If anyone calls looking for me, tell them I've been in the office this morning, but I had to go out to run some errands"...
So far, said employee has not had to field any of said phone calls, but would you lie if you were in her shoes? :confused3

OK, FINE! The employee is me!! You dragged it outa me!! :lmao:

That was a rotten thing for your boss to do. He could of called and said "I won't be in today please cover the phones." Even if you knew where he was and what was going on you could of simply stated he called and is unable to come in today, may I take a message. He would be covered and you would not have to lie for him. Hope you get it worked out. It's a shame he put you in that compromising position. Lois

 Just a quick thought before I return back to 'life'...:rotfl2:

There seems to be a lot of discussion on bracelets, lanyards, pins, etc. in trying to identify fellow DISers onboard. What about hats? Like baseball hats? I typically don't wear one, but when onboard or out in the hot sun, I definitely do. Just a thought...

I cannot keep up with the thread but did catch this post and love this idea - what about visors?

also - I know long ago everyone discussed trip insurance, can anyone point me to the posts? Search is not very friendly to me these days. Thanks!

Horrible? No way! It sounds great! It's logical that you would want to give yourself a chance to feel comfortable with you new family before you try to add to it.

I agree last repo I upgraded from CAT 8 to CAT 4 GTY.
Were you really up-graded from a CAT 8 to a CAT 4.:confused3 I just called DCL and was promised by supervisor last week I would be getting a Room number for my CAT 5 GTY.:woohoo: Guess what. I still have no room number.:sad2: :sad2: :sad2: :confused3 I was told to call everyday if I wanted to. I am just afraid they over-sold, Then what???

That was my train of thought as well. Even if we didn't have a cruise planned, I would want to wait a while after the adoption to start accepting foster placements. I know that it will be an adjustment for all of us when the adoption goes through. So I want to allow us as much time for that adjustment as possible before bringing more children into it.
And then, like Enna said...the whole thing with taking children out of the country. If our adoption is not quite final by cruise time, I don't think it will be impossible to make it happen. It'll just take some doing...(besides, if everything goes as well as our caseworker seems to think it will, then that won't be an issue anyway.)
But it's different with foster children. I'm pretty sure you have to jump through hoops of fire just to be allowed to take foster children out of state, let alone out of the country!!
So we're putting off the foster parenting idea for at least until after the cruise...

To clarify 'I' upgraded and paid for it. Not a freebie!

It's been BRUTAL out there all morning. Just got in for lunch and I'm ready to call it a day already!!! At least I had a nice cup of hot chocolate waiting for me. This is a job for the younger folks, I'm getting too old for this stuff!!! :lmao:

Just keep repeating to yourself...Trip of a Lifetime....Trip of a Lifetime...:rotfl:
