OK, so totally off topic...
But I have a question. Would any of you lie for your boss if it kept him/her out of trouble? I mean, not a HUGE lie...
(I'll just give you a hypothetical...;) :rolleyes1  ) :
Let's say your boss is going through a divorce, he's recently started seeing a woman who lives across state (like a 4-5 hour drive). They take turns on the weekends coming back and forth to see each other. For business, he had to drive yesterday to a city that is between where he lives (we'll call it city A) and where she lives (city B). He was supposed to be back at work today. But he's not because he decided last night that he was going to drive the rest of the distance to city B. He calls his employee  (from girlfriends's house in Kansas City...(OOPS!! mean city B)and says "If anyone calls looking for me, tell them I've been in the office this morning, but I had to go out to run some errands"...
So far, said employee has not had to field any of said phone calls, but would you lie if you were in her shoes? :confused3

OK, FINE! The employee is me!! You dragged it outa me!! :lmao:

Stick to the truth. "I haven't seen him yet today." Or "He's not in right now - I expect him back in the afternoon."

Why compromise your integrity?

Just heard from our TA. We're off WLE and are part of the Captains Dining...!! :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Depends.....did he meet her on Disboards? :rolleyes1

But seriously, no, I would not lie, unless some on-board credits were involved.:rotfl:

Really, though, I'm on board with others, no way would I lie.

 Just a quick thought before I return back to 'life'...:rotfl2:

There seems to be a lot of discussion on bracelets, lanyards, pins, etc. in trying to identify fellow DISers onboard. What about hats? Like baseball hats? I typically don't wear one, but when onboard or out in the hot sun, I definitely do. Just a thought...

We had to tell DD16 right away since the original 2008 summer plans were a 2-3 week trip to Europe as her graduation gift (high school). She had to be willing to postpone that (and make it a college graduation gift) so we could afford to book the Aug repo cruise (which is now her high school graduation gift).

We're lucky in that the kids are young enough that I can plan without them knowing too much. I'm sure that will change as they get to be closer to your DD's age. As it is, we're cancelling a 9 night Princess cruise this summer to redirect resources for this cruise. We're glad that we didn't have to explain that to the kids.

It's great that your daughter was able to have a say in the decison making process!

Your boss put you in a bad position. I would not lie for him. If anyone calls and asks for him I'd just say "I'll make sure he gets a message you called for him" or something like that. And I'd let him know you felt uncomfortable being put in that position, or else he's likely to do it again.

I had something like this happen to me where I was drawn into it - from a tangental angle.... to make a long story short - the one person was planning on staying away from home over the holidays and instead of driving him to the airport so he could be away with their secret flame - I thought to H### with it... and I drove him home instead. This person at the time was enraged at my refusals to take them to the airport ... and I was one of the few he supposedly "trusted" and I lectured him on rethinking his "choices". He knew I was not his lacky anymore - but so be it. He asked for my resignation a few months later and I refused on the grounds it was ground-less. Guess what... a couple weeks later this person was fired for legitmate reasons that had nothing to do with me. Refusing the resignation request was ...scary. But I knew it was all wrong.

My dentist used to ask why i was grinding my teeth flat... I don't know why sometimes.... I am not a rightous freak... I just had very strong convictions in this particular matter. I had seen a lot... maybe too much.:confused3

I gotta get the kids to school now....

Finally caught up for today!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAN!!!!

the boss situation: I agree with what has been said: I would avoid having to answer at all....I wouldn't be comfortable with that....

getting 8+" of snow during the day through 6 - another 12" tonight..I only hope DH makes it home tonight from MD and that the driving won't be terrible. I am pretty sure they said the totals for Mexico or Parish are now 88" - more to come through the weekend...theya re worried about keeping up with clearing out the firehydrants, but from the photos they are going to have to clear the road sign s soon - the banks are that high!:scared1:

I love the Aruba webcam!!!!:thumbsup2

and thanks for posting the Navigaor info from TPC day!!!:thumbsup2

Yeah, I am definitely concerned. Not worried, but concerned. We know there will be cancellations -- we had to cancel the 2005 EB repo right before final payment was due because of school conflicts and there will be others who can't afford it or decide not to spend the money. We had a few diehards cancel out on the 10-day holiday cruise very late -- and these were dedicated DISers who had done the previous one, so it will happen.

So, I figure I won't worry about this for a while. I do wonder if paying off the cruise early would be of any benefit -- would they bump people who hadn't paid early before bumping those who had?

I am not concerned right now. I am sure this is why there hasn't been any "public" openings thus far. There had to be numerous double bookings, but these are being given to those who are waitlisted. I would think that since they are letting more book now that the "overbookings" are pretty much in the clear.

My kids don't know about this cruise yet. DH & I can only talk about it in code. I agree that it's nice to be able to "talk" about our plans on the DIS.

We spoke in code for about 18 months before our last cruise. It was funny because we were so used to speaking that way, we were home for weeks, and we'd keep catching ourselves wanting to whisper things about the trip, and we'd have to remind ourselves...."oh yeah, they know now" (afterall, we had already GONE on the cruise!)...."it's okay to talk openly about it".:goodvibes

I got the big surprise on camera (was the morning before the cruise, right before we went to the airport)....I still get chills and tear up when I watch it!

Sorry to have to drag the truth outta ya ;) I know you don't want to get your boss into trouble ... but I don't think I'd lie for him either. AND, you can be certain that, when he finally DOES get back into the office, I'll be asking him to please not put me into that situation again. OH, and I should probably mention that I work in Human Resources, so it's really my job to ruin people's good times at work

Aw, well based on this and posts after yours- if it's done when we're at port anywhere we will probably miss it- as we intend to be off the ship at ports and then rushing back to get ready for show/dinner.

I believe it is a sea day, at least it was on ours.

Thanks for all of the thoughts. You've all basically affirmed what I was already inclined to do. Sometimes it's not easy to do what you know in your heart is the right thing. But you've all reinforced what I knew in my own heart I had to do. Thanks! :thumbsup2

As for the discussion about telling/not telling your kids about the cruise, here's my thought. We're hoping that telling won't be an issue for us. (we're really hoping that we get a baby when we get our adoption placement.) But if we do get a child who is old enough to comprehend what's going on, I think we like the idea of waiting as long as we can to tell them. (although I cannot imagine being able to wait until the day we fly out!! :scared1: )

Kudos to you, buckifan for being able to do that! I'm sure that look on your kids' faces was amazing!!

I could see maybe letting them know at Christmas or something. We'll just wait and see. :)

I was just checking out the main board, the DCL door sign post to be exact, when I came across this photo.
CastawayCay.jpg

Is it me, or does it look like a Hidden Mickey? Maybe I've been brainwashed by "The Mouse"! :lmao:

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! :beach:

It was priceless....made it worth keeping the secret. BUT, it was hard, and I don't think I'd be able to pull it off again. My parents are cruising with us on the EB repo, and they would NOT have been able to keep this a secret...so we didn't even try this time!

BTW....are you hoping to adopt internationally? I know several people that have adopted from Russia with great success.

It's funny that someone posted that. I noticed when looking at the CC screensaver from DCL that the way the beach is shaped, the water part of CC is shaped almost like the profile Mickey head!! I thought that since the artwork on the screensaver was all cartoon-like and drawn, that it was just embellished to look more like the mickey head...Maybe not!! :scratchin

We're still on the WLE and I really don't know now if we want the early.
