Since we're sharing CP stories. When I was 17 years old, I was sitting at the dining room table with my then boyfriend & I turned around to my mother in the kitchen & said, "Mom I don't know what the heck is wrong with me but my face is loaded with pimples!" She took one look at me & said, "Lift your shirt!" OMG my stomach was covered!!!I was so sick & in pain the next couple of days with a fever so high that I passed out on the bathroom floor! Both my kids have received mandatory vaccinations, but I am also finding out that kids at school are still getting them. I really hope that they don't end up getting them later in life. I would not wish that on anyone!
My Mum was one of those that whenever a friend had them we were forced to go and play with them - I think we just built up an immunity to be honest.
My brother finally got them when he was 15, I've never seen anyone so green - he was close to being hospitalised. I caught them shortly thereafter at the age of 18. I felt so ill I wanted to die. The raging headache, fever, constant itching, no sleep - I wouldn't put my worst enemy through that. It was in the middle of the summer holidays too. My parents set up our old knee deep portable pool in the garden and when the itching got so unbearable we'd just climb in and chill off.
I just wish I'd had them as a child, I still have scars. My Mum kept telling us to only scratch the ones on our head and hope that we don't go bald later in life - those darn pox were everywhere and I mean everywhere inside and out. It is a nasty illness.
