Hi Everyone!:goodvibes

Hey Paula!

How are the fuel prices on Kuai? I bet it's reasonable by most standards! We'll be on Oahu next week wednesday! Our hotel is the last one at the center closest to DIamond Head - excluding the Kahala Oriental at the extreme right edge!

Hi Folks --

Just wanted to check in and say HOWDY! I realized this AM that I missed the Friday night chat AGAIN. Think I need to put it in my calendar as part of my to-do list . . .LOL

Hope everyone is having a fabulous Saturday! We're cleaning up the house to get ready to start school on Monday. Don't know what we'll do next summer when we'll be cruising through August instead of starting our school year . . . ummm. The boys are not keen to starting in early July . . . LOL

Have a wonderful day!

So, I got my letter from DCL on the increases. My taxes went from $162.72 to $462.72. So, I guess my inquiry to DCL should be, "Please provide a breakdown of that line item charge". This is a seperate "line item", same way transfers & insurance are, and they should have these tax and (port) fees figures readily available. I mean, this isn't privelaged info. I have every right to see a breakdown (by port) of these fees. This is not a hidden cost worked into the quote - it is plainly listed as tax & fees

Since the only fee that has been changed is the PC Tax, the difference between all the tax & fees (less the PC increase) should be what they owe me for a credit - no?? Shouldn't that tell us exactly what the difference between the previous formula (tonnage) and this new (per berth) formula? Even if they can't/won't release the exacts on the PC Tax, all the other port fees/taxes should be at their fingertips and those figures have not changed :confused3

Does this make any sense??????

I don't imagine they're happy, why so early? The kids down here start Aug. 21, which means I have to report in on the 20th.

Hi Tom,

When we were thre cheapest we saw was 3.25 at Costco to 3.49 in Princeville. I didn't think they were bad at all. They were much higher in 04 when were there in comparision to mainland. How long are you gonna be there for? Our 2 weeks flew by..........doesn't seem like we have been home for 2 weeks aleady. Enjoy your trip!!! The only thing we saw in Oahu this time was the airport.

I'm worth more dead than alive..... please don't tell DW....

Between work insurance, my personal insurance, etc., she could pay off house and substantial contribution to kids college accounts....

DH just got a $1M policy this week. With his change in Reserve posting coming up - he wasn't certain his AF life insurance would continue, and he wanted us covered. Isn't that sweet. :goodvibes

Too bad I love him too much to figure out how to knock him off. :rotfl:

Hi Esteri -
I know you're flight on 9/1 is 2:30 - so what time are you leaving WDW? As you know Laura, Monica & I are arriving on 9/1 from the WB repo and were hoping to have a mini-meet w/all that are in FLA. then. Since we arrive really early - we can do an early meet. Julie, Pam & Todd have really early flights so they would have to pass.
Arlene - of course - has calendared everyone's itineraries! And 9/1 is David's 40th B'day - now that is special!!

OH - FYI - a few pages back we talked about a CA mini-meet at DL weekend of March 14 - Todd & family will be there to celebrate his B'day and a number of us signed on.
Enjoy your vacation!!

We acutally leave WDW on 8/29. Heading down to visit friends in Homestead, Everglades, the Keys, etc. before leaving for home on 9/1. We'll be at the WLV meet. I doubt we'll stop by WDW on the way back to the airport. So, a meet at the airport is probably all we can manage on 9/1.

You're not alone Tina with these setiments...

... although we do a few small things every now and then ... they're prety low intensity things. AND we have not really had any real sort of date in about 6 years. Although I vaguely recall we might have had a few hours to ourselves some time a year or so ago. So - no, we don't do dates anymore. Nor have we been to WDW much. Of course, we have DL where we are - but our APs are blacked out for the summer.

Crash, Crash, Crash. :sad2: It's called a babysitter. Usually a high school girl, though we did have a high school boy for a while who was awesome, or a neighbor.

When I was growing up my parents took every Friday night for themselves. It didn't have to be fancy, maybe just a walk in the park, but they took the time to stay connected with each other. After 43 years, they still enjoy each others company. The family is only as strong as the marriage. There is wisdom there - I think.

(Gee, does that make me a grown up? I think my parents are wise? :rotfl: )

... to some fence issues because of the new neighbors replacing the fence but leaving a huge gap underneath the majority of the fence and then they graded their land higher than ours to meet that gap then they put dirt there with rocks over it- that's what we see under the gap now and we'll probably end up in court over this because it's illegal to change your land to make your rain runoff into someone else's yard and that's exactly what they've done- so now we're having flooding issues everytime it rains because now all their runoff runs into our land and causes flooding issues (on our grassy areas, in our pool, up on our ground level patio, almost into the house, etc.) and we're getting quotes on how to try to fix this issue plus now build a retaining wall where the gap is (and then probably go to court to make them pay for the costs), etc. etc.

BIP - well darn that really sucks. Based on your follow up posts (which I didn't quote), I'm assuming you've already approached the neighbor about fixing the problem without having to take it to court. Sigh. :guilty:

We had a similar issue with our yard when we got this house. (Like under 3"-6" of water during the winter rains.) Though in our case our lot was simply lower than the others, no one artificially made it that way.

French Drains. Lots of French Drains. We dug a 6' dry well in once corner of the back yard - filled it with rock and covered it with dirt, and later landscaped. The dry well was connected to a trench about two feet deep, that ran the length of the yard. Also rock filed, with a periferated pipe, and dug so that the water would go to the dry well. We couldn't take the water to the street from the back becasue we have two very large, very old trees on either side of the house, who's roots block access. :confused3 Still, they keep the house 20 degrees cooler than the outside, so who are we to complain. Then another drain along side one side of the house where we put in a lot of concrete, and the dog run (gravel) - this drain takes the water from the downspouts, the patio, etc. to the street. It's close to the surface to make cleaning easier.

When we relandscaped we did raise the level of the low spots to match the surrounding area. It was a lot of work, but our yard is dry.

Of course, in our case we were digging up the yard anyway to do a total re-landscape. Though the water control went in about 18 months before the re-landscape - we wanted to be sure we got it right. :)

Sadly, it sounds like you already have landscape in and aren't particularly interested in digging it all up.

For those who did not know (can't remember if I posted it or just through PMs --old age setting in this morning), Europe is the reason we canceled the cruise. SWMBO came back from Paris talking about how much she wanted to take the kids over and we had a family meeting and the kids were much more interested in England and France then cruising again. So we are off plotting a tour of the UK, followed by a day in Paris, and of course, a stop to see our Pal Mickey at DL Paris.

Sounds like an awesome trip JR! I'll be up for my next sabbitical in 2014, both boys will be in their teens, DH and I were talking about a European bike trip for 8 weeks for my next sabbitical. Like you, I think we'll have out grown DCL around then. :)

And on another NOTE... I just noticed my permanent restoration of funds for the theft attempt on my account. YAH! Myinitial submission of the paperwork was faxed incorrectly (by me - I have a new fax machine and I sent it wrong side scanning!).

Arrrgh!

You're not alone... done that too. ("Why'd you fax us a blank page?)

GIVE NOTHING BACK

Unless, of course, you're Crash's bank, in which case you'd better

Give it all back!!

Looks like CHAT is working! I just ran into CaptainCrash in there.

Pamela (pdarrah)

Ouch! Did it hurt?

ATTENTION ATTENTION

We have been upgraded for FREE ....I repeat we have been Upgraded for FREE..

And in local news... I got the the Asian Pears this year before the squirrels!! Got them picked, and dried them in our new dehydrator. They really turned out nice. Sweet like a pear, but with the texture of an apple. We'll be taking a bag full to the parks in a few weeks for snacks for sure. I did leave a few behind for the wildlife.

DH learned about the new ride at Kennedy. He had nixed a trip there during early planning, and now wants to add it back to the itinerary. :headache: It's a good thing I planned for a "relaxed" trip. Does anyone know if it's possible to do a water park (in the morning) and Disney Quest (in the afternoon) in the same day? Pthththt.

LOL! We usually start our school year after Labor day -- but, with the amount of trips & shows this year and next we have been doing some school all year. 9ds and I have been in a co-op all summer that meets all day on Fridays (Science & History).
16dd likes do at least one or two classes through the summer so that she doesn't have to do *everything* in 9 months... She is overwelmed easily and this makes her feel much better about her school work. :)

Just popping in to say Hi & see what I missed on the calendar! We went to see Josh Groban AGAIN last night! We saw him in the spring in Boston & was so excited his tour came back to New England!

I missed chat & I'll be missing chat for the next couple of weeks since we leave for vaca on Thurs morning! :woohoo: Won't be on much before we go because I really need to get some packing done or DH is going to have my neck! :scared: He's been working over time for the last couple of weeks trying to get us extra money for the trip so looks like I'm on my own till we go! :sad2:

I also wanted to thank all you lawyers, mathmaticians & all around inquisitive people trying to figure out this tax increase. I really hope we end up with some sort of credit! Wouldn't that be grand? :flower3:

Oh & congrats captain on the upgrade! :cheer2:

Crew -
Todd and I have been working behind the scenes on the t-s****'s I thought I'd give you a little update.

Artwork
We've been having some problems getting the artwork to the printer. He wasn't able to access the FTP site I set up, and the DVD we sent he couldn't read. We're working out these technical problems now. As you can imagine, the artwork files are HUGE! - which makes them a little tricky to move around.

Tank-tops, Pillow Cases, and Mugs
Walt (the printer) has confirmed that he can do tank tops (which he'll provide), and anything that we wish to send him - such as pillow cases. (I can order those and send them to him.) We've been focused on the artwork and I haven't got pricing from him on these items yet.

Unless we're willing to order A LOT of mugs - getting them won't be cost effective. Sorry.

I will add tank tops and pillow cases to the list of stuff available to order. But no mugs.

Children's Shirts
It occured to me to verify his ability to do children's shirts - rather than just assuming he can do it. No problem. One thing to think about is creating a second (smaller) set of screens for the children's shirts. Let's face it - the artwork sized to fit the smallest shirt will look pretty darn silly on an adult, and will be too big for the little shirts.

This means that the "volume" discount would be calculated separately by group since two set up charges are involved. So, if we have 200 items ordered, 150 use the large screens, and 50 use the small screens. The orders with 150 would get the 100 count prices, and the order with the small screens would get the 50 count prices.

So, the question is - do we want to have two sets of screens? And if not - how does the artwork get sized?

Colors other than Black and White
Hi everyone
I just found the new website recently.

I read this on the website:

website quote goes here

I laughed out loud at the bolded (by me) part. WHAT? No pink or lime green shirts? Well the nerve.
Can we pay extra to have EXTRA shirts made in different colors without driving up the prices for everyone else? (ie: us paying the extra cost ourselves)?
Man, y'all are really going to force me to wear black aren't you.

Here's the scoop on colors other than Black and White. Additional colors will not add to our cost, the shirts are priced separately depending on color already, and the set up charges are spread evenly among all.

However, they will add significantly to the headache of making sure everyone gets the right stuff, and setting up eBay to take the orders. In order to get these discounts, we make a single order. Walt ships all the shirts to me, and I sort, package, and ship them to you. This is already going to be difficult enough without adding a rainbow of colors. In addition, there's the whole artistic angle of putting the artwork on a color that just plain clashes with the artwork. Ug!

However, like BIP I'm not all that thrilled with black myself - so this is what I'm willing to do. (Yes, yes, the Capt'n and I have already discussed.) If there is enough interest, I'll look into figuring out pricing to create a special red shirt.

I am willing to bucket dye shirts that will then be screen printed. I will match the dye to the red in the artwork as closely as I can. Understand, bucket dye shirts do not come out a solid color. The color flows and fades across the shirt. Here are pictures of two shirts to give you an idea:

This was originally a plain white DCL polo shirt we bought on our cruise last August. White is just so, well, plain. I was going for the feeling of the ocean here - I think I got it. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. :goodvibes

sampleshirt1.jpg

Here's something similar in a dark red / burgundy color - closer to what I'd have to do for these shirts. Though, I think our red is a little more brown. I'm putting this here because it nicely shows how the different components of a mixed dye move through the fabric at different speeds. Those light colored areas are actually a greenish gray. Looks cool in real life. But, be forewarned - any bucket dyed shirts you may get may or may not be solid red, and certainly won't be the same shade all over.

sampleshirt2.jpg

The artwork would then be screen over the bucket dyed shirt.

If there is interest, I'll go figure out costs for these kinds of shirts. They will probably be more expensive, and the ordering window will definitely close earlier to give me time to get the dying done.

Be aware: The official t-s**** colors remain, Black for sail day, and White for PC.

Ordering Windows
We originally were looking at having three ordering windows: Now, Christmas, and Just In Time (about 120-90 days from sailing). "Now" is out the window as 1) nobody wanted it, and 2) we're so late in the year that "Now" basically is the same as Christmas.

Given the above (multiple screen sizes, etc.) does anyone still want Christmas? When I asked before not many wanted it - the vast majority wanted Just In Time. So, if you want them for Christmas, they will be more expensive as the volume won't be as big.

So the next question is: How many folks prefer Christmas delivery over Just In Time? (I'm figuring an October order window, provided we can get the artwork sorted out. To allow for Walt's time, and the time I'll need to sort and ship.)

You can respond here, or PM me. I'll be checking in this week, but after that - PM is the surer method until Sept.
