Hi everyone! Making our first trip to DLR first week of August. According to long range weather forecasts (I know not terribly accurate), looks like temps will be trending upward from where they are now to the high 80s- low 90s.

It will be my husband, daughter and I.

We are staying off site west of walnut.

I know rope drop, back to house to cool off/nap then return for evening is often recommended, but as long time Wdw vets this strategy never really worked for us because we would end up more tired from the break in between. Now that DD is older, we prefer to go late morning/early afternoon and stay till close.

Hubby doesn’t do heat well. He is ok with very low 80s but higher than that is harder for him.

If the forecast holds true, what advice might you have to keep him cool?

Ideas so far:
1. Rope drop, nap, return (may need to to that after all, but last resort)
2. Cooling towel?
3. Hand held mister fan?
4. Do counter service in DLR offer free ice water?

Appreciate any other tips and tricks!!

Definitely get a cooling towel and a hand held mister fan or the mister fan that you can wear around your neck.
You can get cups of water at counter serve places. Alien Pizza Planet ad Galactic Grill are good spots.
Go on rides that are long and have good ac like Pirates, Small World, Tiki Room, Haunted Mansion and the Opera House/Walt show, Mickey's Philharmagic show. Go inside shops like Emporium or World of Disney. Get some Dole Whip. Ride the Railroad.
Just pace yourself. It is cooler in the mornings and after 6pm. Look at the LA tv stations weather, like KNBC, KABC, KTLA, KCAL websites.

The saving grace is that it does cool down more in the evenings at DLR than it does at WDW.

If you need a fast cool off, ride Tiana's Bayou Adventure.

I would schedule an indoor meal in the worst of the heat and take your time. That has always been our go to at WDW in the summer.

In addition to getting ice water in the park, I have a trick I do with water bottles. Fill one partially (maybe 1/3) with water, then freeze it at an angle so that the resulting ice runs nearly the length of the bottle but doesn't clog the opening. Then in the morning, fill the bottle with cold water. The ice will keep the new water cold for much longer than if you just took a cold water bottle out of the fridge.

Maybe plan for a midday break at Hearthstone Lounge or Craftsman Grill, or see if you can find a cancelation at Blue Bayou. All restaurants will provide water for free. Most will offer to re-fill your reusable water bottles with ice water.

Coke-Cola Freestyle machines are good for filling up your water bottles. There are probably more locations, but these are what I can remember off of the top of my head.
  • Alien Pizza Planet
  • Pyms
  • Refreshment Station - next to Humphrey's Service & Supplies (across from Soarin)
  • Smokejumpers
  • GCH Craftsman Grill
Regarding places to cool down, these are some of my suggestions.

Disneyland
  • Alien Pizza Planet
  • Golden Horseshoe - you can bring in outside food
  • Fantasyland Theater - no A/C but it is covered and there is often a breeze. Troubadour Tavern has water and restroom next door.
  • Hungry Bear BBQ - no A/C but it is covered and relatively calm. I would head upstairs in the back or downstairs. Restroom is downstairs.
  • Tomorrowland Theater (possibly) - used to be a good place to cool down but it has been closed for quite a while. It is supposed to open for Fantastic 4 meet & greet this week
  • Opera House - both the show and the gallery
  • Tiki Room
  • ROTR - if outdoor queue isn't too long
  • Runaway Railroad - most of queue is indoors
  • Small World - if outdoor queue isn't too long
DCA
  • Animation Academy - although it can get crowded on very hot or rainy days
  • Philharmagic
  • Flos V8
  • Paradise Garden Grill/Board Walk Pizza & Pasta - outdoors but mostly covered
  • Soarin - if outdoor queue isn't too long

I do a similar thing with the frozen water bottles, except I will completely fill (with just enough space to not overflow when solid) 2 or 3 water bottles and bring those in my daypack. My pack has thin material and I position the bottles so they sit against my back and for half the day they act like AC. As they melt you have super cold water, and if you refill at the DL water stations (barely cool at best) while there are still large ice chunks you also get very cold water. If you wanted to go extreme you could even bring more or larger ice bottles and keep extras in a locker until later in the day.

The good news is that even when DL is hot, it's never anything like DisneyWorld. That is altogether a different level of heat.

So helpful!! Thank you!! DH can’t be too hot (health) but also doesn’t want to leave the park so this is great!

Here are the things I do when it's hot in the parks:

Sunbrella-https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q8874C8?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1
Neck fan- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08911JGGW?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2
Hat with a wide brim- I love this one but probably not your husband's style. You could get one, though.- https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08BC5X7Z7?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_10&th=1&psc=1
Afternoon breaks
Misting fan- We bought a cool one in Galaxy's Edge but you could get one ahead of time
Sit down ADR during the hottest part of the day
Long rides like Small World and Pirates
Pop into a store to cool down

Get a ride back to the hotel instead of walking if possible to stay out of the heat.

The neck fan helped SO much, and I really liked using the umbrella because it's like taking shade with you wherever you go.

Thank you for the links! I hadn’t considered a neck fan….good idea!

You should be able to get free cups of water if you ask at most quick service restaurants.
