DCL coming to LA for summer 2008?
________________________________________
I have been following with great interest in anticipation of the 2008 itinerary announcement. Well I could not believe that some kind of news has not been discovered as to the 2008 itineraries. So being the internet person that I am, I went in search of an answer. After hours of searches I came across this which answers all of our questions. According to the linked permit from the Port of Los Angeles, DCL (otherwise known as Magical Cruise Company) has been granted a permit for conducting business out of the Port of Los Angeles from May 1, 2008 through September 15, 2008 for the purpose of family cruises to Mexico.

It DOES say "For weeklong cruises to Mexico".
Can't say as I'm 100% thrilled to be doing the Mexican Riviera again (we did it with Disney last time) but I'm TOTALLY thrilled to have one of DCL's ships this close to home!!

I'll go anywhere they go!!

I was thinking this was probably the reason. Good detective work.
Now I just need to dedide if I want to go or not. I don't really like Mexico cruises. Haven't done DCL there, but I've done other lines.

The 2004 one was 1pm EST 6pm here in the UK,, I think the Med ones were the same.
For the Med ones DCL teased us on their website for aobut two weeks before, on the Panama I remeber a tip off from the Webmaster about a week or so inadvance.
Look out for press events schdules in WDW or DL, this one most likly would be DL CL now, they have released them on the day of press events before, remember its DCL's birthday so there might be a special one in the middle????

Having just read this thread I am a little perplexed as to why posts are suggesting that the Magic will be doing the 2008 West coast cruises.
Surerly, following that the Magic did them in 2005, the Wonder did the speciality cruises in 2006, the Magic is heading back to her birthplace this year, I would have thought that on that basis alone, the Wonder will be heading for the Panama Canal next year !!
Any thoughts ?

I booked a dummy date in 8/06 while onboard with the plan to change to 8/08 Western. I am not that interested in the ports in Mexico, but would take advantage of having the ship closer to us. Or maybe we could swing the repo if it sails eastbound before Labor Day. Either way, I will be interested to see what happens when the announcement is actually made.
Until then, thinking about the
Disney cruise is as close as I'll get for at least 1 1/2 years, so...

Well...
... we're excited with this developement! Perhaps we'll consider the Panama Canal voyages coming or going... and as a 3rd consideration we'll look into the regular sailings R/t to Mexico! We're just an easy 60 minute drive from the ports!
Cheers for the sleuth work!

I am so thrilled by this news. I've been away from the board for awhile so I decided to stop by today and check out the latest. We have been hoping the Magic would come back to L.A., but I wasn't expecting it. We would love to do the repo if we can manage to be away that long and make it work around the kid's school schedule. If not, we will most definitely do one of the 7 day cruises. I know many here give it mixed reviews, but we have done the Mexican Riviera twice now and we liked it each time. There is still plenty that we would like to see and do at the ports there. It doesn't really matter though. We just want back on the Magic!!

Several were talking about transportation. We stayed right at the airport at Embassy Suites which was very nice and convenient without being noisy. We had made a prearranged time with Prime time shuttle. They were precisely on time, drove sanely, and were also there to pick us up when we got off the ship. I highly recommend them. They were very reasonable. All 6 of us went for around the same price as DCL transfers for one.
