8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

Rich bought me the watch and I bought the Mickey head ring in diamonique. Hey I deserve it.

Well it is a sunny day but the temp is 42. They say 39 at the villages and to go down tonight to 32 there. Poor Barb must be freezing. Hey At least it's Sunny . Gotta run for work.

You do deserve those things! :thumbsup2

I don't feel sorry for any of you:angel: You will not be having the -20 below zero temperatures and 30 miles an hour wind to go along with that.:sad2:

Just think........I will have only 3 more winters after this one before we can complain about 40 degree weather.:worship: :worship: :worship:

It was close to 80 here today....... :woohoo:

We sailed in Pirate waters

TOM!!!! Are you trying to scare the daylights out of us????????

I spent my time tonight (when I wasn't onstage or rehearsing) trying to talk to another Disney Freak (I started talking to her because she was wearing a WDW Night of Joy t-shirt :goodvibes ) into doing a DCL cruise!!! She kept saying *Isn't that too expensive?*
She only has 2 young children (dd's 9 & 7) so, I told her that she could stay in any cabin and that she should check out the prices for August & September cruises (traditionally the lower priced). I did tell her about hurricanes BUT, I reminded her that cruise ships go around them not through them! LOL!
Then I started telling her about the ABDs.

And I told her about all the wonderful people that I have met and become friends with on our cruises. :goodvibes

I'm like a rabid dog when it comes to getting excited talking about our Disney trips!!! LOL!

I'm going to bring her a couple of our Navigators to look at tomorrow night.

Speaking of freaks.... I was reading the thread at my day job the other day and one of the mail room guys walked by and looked over my shoulder and said..."Hey..Is that the DIS?"

(apparently he's a big fan too)

Too funny!!!!!! This woman didn't know about the DIS -- and she is a Disney freak, also!!!

EVERYTHING has a historical beginning ....

Cannon Balls

It was necessary to keep a good supply of cannon balls near the cannon on old war ships. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck was the problem. The best storage method devised was to stack them as a square based pyramid, with one ball on top, resting on four, resting on nine, which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon.

There was only one problem -- how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding/rolling out from under the others. The solution was a metal plate with 16 round indentations, called a Monkey. But, if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make Brass Monkeys.

Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannon balls would come right off the monkey. Thus, it was quite literally, cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

  .......

And all this time, you thought that was a vulgar expression, didn't you? You must send this fabulous bit of historical knowledge to at least a few unsuspecting friends.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 We live near Mystic Marine Village so we get all those great tid bits. Very bad when your third grader say " It's cold enough to freeze the........" well you get it. Then he has to explain it to the teacher before she makes THE phone call.. :lmao:

Hey...........don't get into trouble again. :rolleyes1 BTW the number I did not know the other night was from Tina(downriver). I guess we are all depressed.:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

BTW...Adventuring over into the CB boards...

Don't worry... Not too much drama...

It's my mean mom thread..

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2015054

Actually the responses have been pretty kind considering it's the CB board! :scared:

Tell Devon, if it's any consolation, Taylor isn't going just because it's a school night, period. She didn't even really push the issue, because she knew what my response would be. She just said that a bunch of friends were going to the midnight show & skipping school Friday since it was National Skip School Day anway. I just said, "That's nice, you're not." She's seeing it tomorrow night at 7:00 with a couple of friends. ;)

OK, so Diane PM'd me and Esteri called, so I figured I should pop in to let you all know that I'm still alive!

Things are going well here - crazy busy though. I love my new job, but seriously working 11-12 hour days. Plus hockey, plus Cub Scouts, plus karate, plus assorted house guests...and then a few of my bff's sucked me into Facebook. Oy!

Anyway, I miss all of you guys!

I was wondering if I'd stump anyone with my cryptic post.

I haven't shared much about this job because I didn't want to jinx anything. A staffing recruiter found my resume on Monster because of my telecom experience. I had a phone interview a few weeks ago and was supposed to have an onsite interview last week but it got postponed. I interviewed on Tuesday and felt that it went well. Got a call from the recruiter today with the offer. It will be a 3 month contract to hire. I plan on making myself so valuable that they will hire me on permanent.

It's a catch all administrative assistant type job in the telecom department of an HMO. I'll be assisting with ordering, contract maintenance, and procedure documentation. Initially a 20% paycut, but once I'm permanent it will only be about a 5% paycut. Full benefits after 30 days, even on contract. Don't know about vacation time yet, probably won't know until the perm. position is negotiated.

Today is 7 months to the day that I was notified about my lay off, 5 months since I've been off payroll.

OK, I'll share my Twilight story....

Gave DD permission to go to the show on Friday with her friend, Izzy (first time to the movies unsupervised).

Well, Izzy's Mom says she can't go W/O an adult so she's gonna go. So, I politely offer to DD, well, I'll go and keep Izzy's Mom company even though I've never met the woman. I was told, NO!!, Izzy's Mom is cool and you're not :sad1: .

two minutes later.....

MOMMMMMM - Izzy's mom doesn't have a babysitter (for little sister) so she can't go, and Izzy can't go without an adult so can you go to the movie, but you have to sit in the back away from us :headache:

Long story short, guess where this big loser head is going to be tomorrow night at 7pm sitting in the back, by my lonesome with my own bag of popcorn becuase I am not cool popcorn::

I AM TOO COOL :cool1:
