8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

.
I never heard about the DIS til two months before my second cruise.:sad2: Than I got to meet you on the 10 day Wonder thread!!!  :woohoo:

Then aren't you REALLY glad that you found the DIS? :lmao:

BTW...Adventuring over into the CB boards...

Don't worry... Not too much drama...

It's my mean mom thread..

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2015054

The whole refusing to do better in school would have done it for me!!! What is wrong with teenagers??? :confused3

Actually the responses have been pretty kind considering it's the CB board! :scared:

Tell Devon, if it's any consolation, Taylor isn't going just because it's a school night, period. She didn't even really push the issue, because she knew what my response would be. She just said that a bunch of friends were going to the midnight show & skipping school Friday since it was National Skip School Day anway. I just said, "That's nice, you're not." She's seeing it tomorrow night at 7:00 with a couple of friends. ;)

Samantha & a couple of her friends went last night -- along with one of my best friends (the mom of one of the girls). All 3 girls are homeschooled so, they just got to sleep in a little bit and then do all their work! :rotfl2:

OK, so Diane PM'd me and Esteri called, so I figured I should pop in to let you all know that I'm still alive!

Things are going well here - crazy busy though. I love my new job, but seriously working 11-12 hour days. Plus hockey, plus Cub Scouts, plus karate, plus assorted house guests...and then a few of my bff's sucked me into Facebook. Oy!
!

I Facebook!!! One of DH's cousins *forced* me into doing it this past Spring. I did MySpace for about 9yrs and HATED MySpace!!! I love Facebook!!! No annoying backgrounds and no annoying music!!!!!
I know people thought all of that made their pages so *original* but, I just hated reading them! LOL!

If anyone wants to *friend* me PM or email me for my full name.

I was wondering if I'd stump anyone with my cryptic post.

......
Today is 7 months to the day that I was notified about my lay off, 5 months since I've been off payroll.

pixiedust: Congratulations!!!

Yeah, I heard all the smart arses moved over to the restaurant board :lmao:

OK, I'll share my Twilight story....

Gave DD permission to go to the show on Friday with her friend, Izzy (first time to the movies unsupervised).

Well, Izzy's Mom says she can't go W/O an adult so she's gonna go. So, I politely offer to DD, well, I'll go and keep Izzy's Mom company even though I've never met the woman. I was told, NO!!, Izzy's Mom is cool and you're not :sad1: .

two minutes later.....

MOMMMMMM - Izzy's mom doesn't have a babysitter (for little sister) so she can't go, and Izzy can't go without an adult so can you go to the movie, but you have to sit in the back away from us :headache:

Long story short, guess where this big loser head is going to be tomorrow night at 7pm sitting in the back, by my lonesome with my own bag of popcorn becuase I am not cool popcorn::

I AM TOO COOL :cool1:

My 17dd went last night with a group that included one of my best friends. My friend wanted me to come to but, my dd had told me *Mom, Mrs. __ is the coolest mom ever.*
I am sure she is much cooler then I am since she is almost 15yrs younger then me!!!! :rotfl2: And she read the series!

Well now Julie, when you put it that way.......

I have no idea about the story, I just know that DD read all the books on our EBPC Repo. She picked up one before the cruise for the plane ride and next thing I know I was at the Target in CA picking up the rest of them. Hey, if they can get my ST to read, can't be all that bad, right?

That's exactly how I felt about the books!! LOL! Then I read a blub about the author and the series and I thought *Wow, that is a wonderful message for teenagers!*.

I'm terrified right now and reaching out to anyone and everyone.

There was just a home invasion 2 doors down from me this morning. I heard someone yelling for help, looked out and saw a woman running down the street. I had her come in my house and we called 911. Apparently she was getting ready ot leave for work and went back in the house for something. The guy followed her, brandished a gun and started beating her up. Not sure if he was there to attack her or to rob her. I did see the guy running down the street but didn't see the gun. He roughed her up a bit but she got away but she made sure to wipe her blood on his clothes. Who thinks of that when fighting for their life?

Even more horrible, my DS was right there with me the whole time. We were waiting for his school bus which is why I had the front door open, the screen/security door was still closed though. His bus came before I had a chance to reassure him that it will be okay.

It happened at the same time in the morning that I'll be leaving for work. And this is when my DS's bus comes too. We've had breakins before in the area but usualy when no one is home. My house was broken into once and attempted another (found a busted window). But this is the first I'm hearing of anything this frigtening. And now I'm connected. I hope there won't be any backlash to me. The guy did see what house she ran in to.

 Oh, Monica!!! And Trevoy!!!!

WOW is your neighbor ok?

The world is getting scarier as people get more desperate... (and less help is out there)

The girls at my P/t job warned me about the glue-sniffer guy that comes in to make purchases...

Finally saw him the other night at work. He is big time creepy and was like "when did you start here..?" (my initial thought was to tell him i was quitting now that i saw him.)

Luckily we all leave as a group to our cars at night.

AACCKKK!!!!!! And BTW - I love your smart alek thought! DH is a smart alek! LOL!

I'm sure it was so quick, T she didn't know what to do.... But i'm sure her ds might have a baseball bat.

Swing away monica. Swing away.. (ok that was a bad joke but i remember my mom keeping a bat by the front door when we were little after we had a problem with one neighbor.)

My neighbors have seen my big dog and stay away.. (they don't know she's harmless)

When dh is out of town I make sure one of the (unloaded) shotguns is handy. DH won't let me have guns & bullets (actually he doesn't keep any bullets in the house). I figure if the gun doesn't scare them then I can beat them with it. ;)
We do have alarm system, also.

Just stopped by to say HI..

Monica Congrats on the job... :thumbsup2 I am sure you'll make it into permanent.. Also so glad you were there for the neighbor.. she really needed you.. prayers that the crazy person forgets your address..

Hi to all.. nice to chat again.. things have been crazy here. but football season is over for Eric so we don't have to spend every fri nite watching the 5 pm game and then the 7:30 game.. ( Eric played at 5 and then was in the marching band for the 7:30) Geoff and I went to Roanoke Va for a scholarship contest.. he will here from them and the other schools he applied to in december.. not sure how we will pay for college.. but hoping that things work out for hhim.. Work is still the pits... I am waiting to be fired.. DH and I are trying to figure out which one of us is first in the termination area.. I will need to retrain so i can get a job in another field.. Dh wants to retire.. I am so glad we cruised when we did..

Maybe we should have a Pirates group there?

Maybe we should have a Pirates group there?

Smart idea! But, then someone will have to be Cheryl's personal *Facebook* tutor! :lmao: I volunteer .... you! :rotfl2:

She'll be more *flair* crazy then I am! :rotfl: :rotfl:

My neighbor came by today to say thank you and to also say that they caught the guy. She went to the PD and positively ID'd him. I'm going to call them on Monday and see if I can get any more information like how long they expect to be able to keep him, did he have any priors, stuff like that.

I've made some changes to help keep us safer. Basically stuff I already knew to do but have gotten lax because our little area is usually so quiet.

Trevoy handled it all okay throughout the day but got a little anxious at bedtime. I reassued him that our little dog always hears anyone who comes up to the house so no one would be able to sneak in on us. I also reminded him that every door and window was all locked. The guy got in the other house because she left the door unlocked. We won't be doing that anymore.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Hopefully we can put this past us and focus back on the good news. I go back to work in 2 weeks. :cool1:

I'm glad to hear that, Monica.

It might make Trevoy feel better if you have a police officer come out and do a walk through of your house (inside & out) and he can tell you what kinds of things to do to make it safer.

We've had them come out and do this before.

Glad to hear he was caught, Monica. Now you can all rest a little easier.:grouphug:

Maybe we should have a Pirates group there?

Oh fun! Lets!

Yikes Monica. I'm so glad this is turning out OK. How scary for all of you.

Gee............just because I went to see 4 movies this weekend.........I missed lots of news. BTW........

Twilight......Loved the story...but poor acting......:thumbsup2
Boy in the Striped Pajamas......A very interesting movie and upsetting:thumbsup2
The Secret life of Bees........John and I both shed a tear:thumbsup2
Bolt.........Disney needs to get some better story lines but the 3 D was excellent:sad2:

I was wondering if I'd stump anyone with my cryptic post.

I haven't shared much about this job because I didn't want to jinx anything. A staffing recruiter found my resume on Monster because of my telecom experience. I had a phone interview a few weeks ago and was supposed to have an onsite interview last week but it got postponed. I interviewed on Tuesday and felt that it went well. Got a call from the recruiter today with the offer. It will be a 3 month contract to hire. I plan on making myself so valuable that they will hire me on permanent.

It's a catch all administrative assistant type job in the telecom department of an HMO. I'll be assisting with ordering, contract maintenance, and procedure documentation. Initially a 20% paycut, but once I'm permanent it will only be about a 5% paycut. Full benefits after 30 days, even on contract. Don't know about vacation time yet, probably won't know until the perm. position is negotiated.

Today is 7 months to the day that I was notified about my lay off, 5 months since I've been off payroll.

congratulation-70.gif

Maybe a meet next August is in your future.

WOW! Monica got a job in a DIAMOND MINE!!!

Congrats!

Hey.........I hope never too busy to stop and say hello. You are one of my favorite drinking partners.;)

So sorry for you Monica. I still have an unpublished number because of things happening 38 years ago.:scared: I am glad they caught the guy.

I suggest calling the PD, not the 9-1-1 line, but a "7 digit" number and tell them you are concerned and scared. Ask if they could request their patrols to give "passing attention" to the neighborhood at that time of the morning.

When leaving in the morning, I would suggest looking out the window and if anyone looks suspicious, call the PD and ask them to respond. If you have to leave call a neighbor and ask them to watch in case there is trouble.

Always a good idea for a neighborhood watch.:thumbsup2

Maybe we should have a Pirates group there?

Tom, do all women volunteer you or just us? I'm sure Ellen has plenty of things that you can *volunteer* to do! :rotfl2:

Hello...

Just passing through ta say hello!

image006.gif

Hope everyone is well...

We just had a birthday party for our little one - it was a busy production...

Aside from that... all is well here... more or less.

Have a great THANKSGIVNG week everyone!

a_big_bird_thanksgiving.jpg

I'll take a moment to read backwards from here ta catch up on things a bit....

Morning everyone! Well, we survived the weekend! LOL! Kaitlin's choir sang 1/2 hour before the parade. And the stupid boat club decided to have a 5K run, which was back an forth in front of the showmobile while the kids were trying to sing! :scared1: The choir director was not happy and neither were us parents.

Then after they sang we hot footed it about a mile down the parade route to the elementary school band. Kaitlin was complaining about her toes being cold, but we got down to the gathering spot. If course the tempature was bearly above 25 degrees! :scared1: We got quite a work out walking around. I got to carry the trumpet around. And kept the mouth piece warm! :goodvibes

Got Thanksgiving dinner ordered from Meijers. Hoping for a peaceful short week!

Running in front of the kids singing???!!!! I think they need a new organizer!!!

I'm sure Kaitlin was glad you kept her mouthpiece warm. :goodvibes

We're happy for a short week -- we only have rehearsals tonight & tomorrow night this week!!! :yay:

One of my nieces is driving up (she lives outside Austin) Wednesday after work to spend a few days with us. Everyones happy for that -- I have 2 brothers (with s/o's), my mom & oldest ds's room mate (both of their girlfriends live out of state) that are going to be here for Thanksgiving.

We're only expecting 15 for Thanksgiving. It seems really weird that only 2 of those are children (my youngest 2)!!
Maybe by next Thanksgiving dd & sil will have a baby -- or at least one on the way! LOL!

Shoot I wish we lived a bit closer & I would've gone with you! I think you're way too cool too! :cool1:

:hug: ::yes::

Also you are much kinder than I would of been. If my dd said that to me and than came back I would of said no.

You're probably right, Tina. A while back this would have hurt my feelings, but now stuff like this just rolls off my back. Beside, we actually had a chuckle over it, and it was good for at least 10 jabs during the week.
Ya know.....
I think only "Cool Moms" can make lunch, pu from homework club so you don't have to take the late bus, make sure "the" Twilight shirt is clean for the movies..........

I can so picture your DD doing that!

For what it's worth, Linda and I think you're cool!:cool1:

Yes, Mike....you got to see her at her ST best :sad2: -sorry about that

My 17dd went last night with a group that included one of my best friends. My friend wanted me to come to but, my dd had told me *Mom, Mrs. __ is the coolest mom ever.*
I am sure she is much cooler then I am since she is almost 15yrs younger then me!!!! :rotfl2: And she read the series!

Well, come to find out, Izzy doesn't think her Mom is cool, either....Hmmmph

Tough crowd

Just stopped by to say HI..

Hi Susan :wave2:

Read your post over on the JellyRolls Thread. I am pretty sad to miss Mousefest this year too. I had such fun with all you last year.

I hope things remain OK for your job!

My neighbor came by today to say thank you and to also say that they caught the guy. She went to the PD and positively ID'd him. I'm going to call them on Monday and see if I can get any more information like how long they expect to be able to keep him, did he have any priors, stuff like that.

OK, glad I am not the only one that thought the performances (especially Edward) were just ridiculously bad. I though it was so bad it got in the way of telling the story. Meaning if you hadn't read the book, emotionally, the characters just seemed so "all over the place", especially in the beginning. I don't get it, you already know the movie is going to make a fortune; why would you not splurge and get top notch talent :confused3 .

I took one of my day-care kids to see Bolt on Saturday (who, BTW, thinks I am way cool :cool2: ) and I really liked it. The opening scene made ME want to go out and get a puppy :lovestruc

Have a great THANKSGIVNG week everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family too, Crash!!!

Well, I can see how it would be upsetting. All that work and then something like that happens :sad2: .

Short week here too. Thought today was going to be a rough one, but my testing toddler is home sick so it just leaves my here with my new infant :cloud9: who has been sleeping like an  since 9:30 :ssst:

Happy Thanksgiving too to you and your family Mary Ann!

OK... Alicia is working out in Bakersfield overnight and she forgot her computer... so I'm gonna drive it out to her in about 30 minutes(just under 2 hours with traffic), have dinner and swim at her hotel with the kids then come on home tonite with the kids sleeping on the ride home. Sigh... the things a spouse has ta do now and then ta ease her workflow. She had some reportrs she wanted to finish tonite - and although unplanned fer me ta drive out - I can do it so she does not feel pressured to do it late nite on tuesday when she gets home normally. Good thing gas is so cheap now... it's near $2 where we are ... and supposedly as low as $1.85 a gallon at Costco! Wow! I'll be tanking up at the Costco in Bakersfield before I turn for home if thats' the case!

and then a few of my bff's sucked me into Facebook. Oy!

Facebook's almost as dangerous as the DIS. I got suckered in by my grandmother...

Monica, congrats on the job & happy, safe thoughts about your neighborhood. Thank you for taking care of your neighbor, and I'm glad they caught the guy.

Facebook's almost as dangerous as the DIS. I got suckered in by my grandmother...

Yes, it is... And everyone know now... I am a flair freak.... I can't help it! :rotfl2:

Sara, you'll have to friend me since I couldn't find you... there are about 25 pages of your name ...... Which is why I use my maiden & my married name..... :) My married name is way too common! LOL!
If they had a space to search by age mine would be easy.... I mean, really. How many *Stephanie's* do you know that are over 45???? :lmao: Not many!!!!!!

Facebook's almost as dangerous as the DIS.

Except i can DIS at my current job but Facebook is outlawed (Apparently too many viruses get into our systems that way)

Hey did everyone see they have chat on Facebook? i talked to Steph tonight. The system seems far more stable than pirate chat
