8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC #15 /Life After the PC

Hey Crew - just thought I'd stick my head in the door and say

ARGH!

Things have been nutty as usual. We're still booked on the 12/5/09 Cruise Your Heart Desires Most - no money to apply to a new booking. But it's for a really good reason....

We got the house!!

Yeah - that one. The one we've been chasing since June? Two days after we got back our Realtor called to let us know it had fallen out of escrow. Sew, we resubmitted - and were the back up - again. Pthththt. But that fell through and we got it.

I'll tell you financing is a real problem right now. We ran headlong into the credit crunch. It was looking like we were going to loose it when, as we were walking out of our Mortgage Broker's office having learned he was only able to find ONE lender in the entire country willing to consider what we wanted to do :scared1:, Mom called to put the line of credit she has at our disposal. Whew! Let's hear it for Mom!!!

We're closing on 12/19, but would definitely like to get in sooner if we can. Everything is done - just waiting on the bank now. But banks right now don't have a lot of urgency to make loans. :sad2:

Sew now it's a lot of :rolleyes1 and popcorn:: .

We've already made up our change of address cards though, I thought you'd get a giggle over it....

Happy Birthday MICKEY!
80 and looking good!

I stayed up and watched the 1st hour of the QVC show *celebrating* Mickey's B-day! AND in honor of his b-day I bought a few things for myself and for Christmas gifts --- 25dd had called me the other day when they had a Disney Jewelry show on and told me that if I was in the mood to buy her jewelry that there wasa really cool ring she wanted! :rotfl2:

Rich bought me the watch and I bought the Mickey head ring in diamonique. Hey I deserve it.

Well it is a sunny day but the temp is 42. They say 39 at the villages and to go down tonight to 32 there. Poor Barb must be freezing. Hey At least it's Sunny . Gotta run for work.

Good lord.... Has hell frozen oven then...

It's about those same temps up here... I even caved last night and turned the heat on for a couple hours.... (just to take the chill off the house.)

It's set below 60 right now so shouldn't turn on.

I must still be too much of a Northerner - I thought it was nice with just a jacket. But I did have to put the sides down on my golf cart to go to Target.

I don't feel sorry for any of you:angel: You will not be having the -20 below zero temperatures and 30 miles an hour wind to go along with that.:sad2:

Just think........I will have only 3 more winters after this one before we can complain about 40 degree weather.:worship: :worship: :worship:

It's still getting up in the 60s here! :yay: My MIL keeps calling every time they start getting snow and I keep telling her to come visit LOL. They haven't been out here for 1.5yrs already.

Well the balls are off the Brass Monkey here today 30 in the sun. Brrr to soon.

Pirate Trivia, "What is a brass monkey?" (I know what you were thinking at first)

Pirate Trivia, "What is a brass monkey?" (I know what you were thinking at first)

EVERYTHING has a historical beginning ....

Cannon Balls

It was necessary to keep a good supply of cannon balls near the cannon on old war ships. But how to prevent them from rolling about the deck was the problem. The best storage method devised was to stack them as a square based pyramid, with one ball on top, resting on four, resting on nine, which rested on sixteen. Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon.

There was only one problem -- how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding/rolling out from under the others. The solution was a metal plate with 16 round indentations, called a Monkey. But, if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make Brass Monkeys.

Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannon balls would come right off the monkey. Thus, it was quite literally, cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.

  .......

And all this time, you thought that was a vulgar expression, didn't you? You must send this fabulous bit of historical knowledge to at least a few unsuspecting friends.
