A packin' we will go

A packin' we will go

Hi ho the merrio, a packin' we will go

Just waiting on Chris to get here. Then we're off to Esteri's to pack up the shirts. Can't wait to see them.

Wish I could join you but I have to work. At least I get to work from home. I would rather be packin' than workin'.

Have a good time!

ATTN GIRLS SCOUTS:
Girl Scout Badge Idea...........Let me know what you think!

In the Junior Girl Scout Manual there is a badge called "On My Way". Junior Scouts need to complete SIX activities, not sure about the Daisy's or the Brownies. I came up with three activitie ideas here.

Things we could do to earn the badge: 1) Find out about a couple of "Travel Careers" - maybe interview the Cruise Director, a dining room server, the excursion manager, galley manager, etc. 2) Each girl could create a travel post card of the port they are most looking forward to or that we have visited and they blind swap them with each other............THEN.........once the girls are home they could write something on their postcard and send it to someone totally different (we would have to assign an address). 3) The girls could brainstorm safety on the ship and how to stay safe - travelling in pairs, etc.

These are just some ideas I came up with........someone might have something to add or something totally different in mind. Give me your thoughts

My DD Emily (8-turning 9 on cruise) is in Juniors...she would be interested in a chance to work with other GSs, and work on badges during the cruise. I think this is a great idea. Include us in the count that has been floating around the board.

No......not our 40th Anniversary yet. :rolleyes1 John just thought I would expect flowers Sunday so he surprised me today instead.  This is what 40 roses look like!!!

40years002.jpg

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY JOHN AND CHERYL:hug:
I was 16 when you got married. If I put my marriages together I would have over 30 years.:rotfl: DH and I will celebrate 8 years on August 5. On our first anniversary he sent me 24 red roses and somehow the florist delivered them twice, so I got 48 roses. I made him call them to make sure we didn't get charged twice and they told me to keep the second bouquet.

I think a sense of humor is important in a marriage. We tease each other all the time and people who don't know us well sometimes give us strange looks. Last night I told him I was going to run into his car (his baby, a red Dodge Charger) if he didn't stop bugging me. The neighbors must have thought I was crazy. :rolleyes1

Disneyland Related Question..................

I am really struggling with dining at Disneyland and I need some advice from the Ca experts. At this point I have not made any priority seating dining at all. I figured we would plan to be in the parks early as possible, grab a quick bite at McDonalds on the way in and then have an early lunch around 11 and then an early dinner arpound 5 to avoid some of the crowds. Figured we would just eat wherever we were at the time.

HOWEVER, DS is turning 13 which is the first day we are in Disneyland. I wanted to do a character breakfast but he kind of stuck his nose up at that idea (he is too cool & too old for that :confused3) So.............I was searching through the sit down full service restaurants that are interesting and would be good for all of us. I keep looking at Blue Bayou - its right up his alley BUT the menu (its an old one and it may be updated now) does not seem all that appealing to kids............both of my kids like plain foods, no fancy stuff. SO, those of you who have been, can you tell me if they have chicken strips, grilled cheese, or just plain steaks or chicken?

If I don't make any dining reservations do you think I am making a big mistake??? Thanks!

I like the menus here.....hmm....guess I can't post that link, just search disneyland menus (comes up first on a yahoo search, fourth on a google search)

No chicken strips at Blue Bayou. They do have chicken legs, and plain pasta. But they are strict about the age limit for kids meals there. The adult menu doesn't have real plain food.

Without dining reservations, you probably won't be able to get any table service type meals.

What about ESPN Zone or Rainforrest for the birthday meal?

Sounds good. Let me know what you guys come up with.

Gee...

... I'm gonna be in SF some time this month. I just need to double check my calandar as to WHEN that'll be. Maybe you foks can sort of make it THAT weekend? Let me go try and ask Alicia about that now.... if I can corner her long enough.

My kids LOVED the Kids Newsletter!! Really increased the excitement (and nervousness) of this TOAL!!
Appreciate all who contributed!

When are we going to do a N. CA meet? I am free this weekend and Saturday of next weekend. I am hoping to meet some of you before DL/or the cruise!

I am game to host in my place in SF.

If it's this weekend, we're game. (Sans DH who signed up for a seminar this weekend thinking we'd be gone by then.) I could put off our departure through the weekend. After that - we'll be north and won't be able to participate.

Quick! someone make a decision. :rotfl2:

MATH ALERT:
Yeah, but your remainder would be a 1-year-old. And that's not good. Better trade for 3 20-year-4-month-olds.

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

That sucks. Some people just don't get that there is more to life than work - and that is sad.

My boss is a 50-something workaholic. Never had a husband or kids. Takes pride in actually losing vacation days because she carries too many year to year. Leaves the office about 8 each night. Rolls her eyes when people go on vacation...

:sad2: Sometimes you just want to tell people to get a life. Ya know? What happens when this 50-something retires and no longer has a job? I'm betting mortality rate for folks like this post-retirement is higher than average. She's got to be starting to worry about what comes next.

...
This lady commutes 10 minutes to work because she lives in one of the most expensive communities in the area and she drives a Jag. My DH commutes 1.5 hours each way and works most of the time while he is commuting. Yes, we chose to live this far away, but it is what we could afford. Anyway, I could go on and on about her, but she is not worth it.

Anyway, my kids and DH are the most important things in my life. Without them, life wouldn't be the same.

...

Does anyone have some extra caffeine for my solo road trip? I tend to fall asleep in a moving car when it is warm and sunny.:cloud9:

In the end, it all comes down to the organization's culture. Ya know? Sometimes, it's just not a fit. Personally, I think it's the #1 thing related to work happiness. And life's too short to be hating what you do everyday. Ya know? But if he likes it... well, these are the bumps that come with the road.

I worry that we've made you feel defensive for your rant. And you shouldn't be. I think we've all been there at one point or another and can empathize with your frustration. Finding that balance between work and home is something we all struggle with I think.

As for the drive... have you considered listening to books? We find that they keep us awake and alert without the caloric intake. If you have an MP3 player you can download them. We use Audible.com. Our library also has them available for check out and download for free.

Crash's 7 Questions...

1) What are your hobbies and / or passionate interests again? Gardening, Fabric Art, training and showing our dogs

2) Any favorite reading subjects, and/or magazines and/or authors?
Fiction, no Stephen King or any of that ilk, beyond that pretty eccletic - mystery, fantasy, etc.

3) You have any snacks or beverages which you sinfully covet?
Raw almonds, really good chocolate, flavored water (the no calorie, no sweetners added kind - like Crystal Geyser, or Calistoga - though I'm not particular to brand - sparkling or still - I'm not picky)

4) Are there any musicians, music groups or catagories of music which tickle your fancy more than others?
R&B, Pop, Jazz... George Michael, Ray Charles, Sting, Jimmy Buffett, etc. all have their place on my playlist

5) Are you COMPULSIVE about anything??? - or alternatively - is there anything that comes to mind which has recently has been an ANNOYANCE to you?
Nope. and Nope. Pretty easy going. OK, I get a bit annoyed by parents that don't parent their children - we're their parents, NOT their friends. But, that's not a SM gift.

6) Tell us something you've NOT ever posted or mentioned about yourself - to the best of your recollection. Those with poor memories are invited to just make something entertaining up! < wink >
Uh.... nothing relevant that I care to share comes immediately to mind. :rotfl2: See the following question?

7) Now ... I'm going to stick MY neck out and ask ya ta share your T-shirt size .... and if this is NOT a diplomaticly correct question - then I invite you to substitute with confessing your NICKNAME!... if any?
It's not that I'm unwilling to share my size. I just don't want/need any more T-shirts. I've already got three drawers full! As for my nickname. I haven't got one currently - but once upon a time I was called Poly - short for Polyester Ratlips, or PERL. Buy me a drink and I'll tell you the story.... It's worth the drink. :rotfl:

8A) What charitable organization do you most connect with??
Sacramento Waldorf School, and Guide Dogs for the Blind. And yeah - a donation to the SWS Capital Fund (building a new high school) would be a pretty terrific SM gift!

.

At this point, we don't have any yet either. My kids, especially DS10, are plain eaters and they didn't really care for Blue Bayou when we ate there 2 years ago. IMO, I would go with Storytellers Cafe at the GC. The food is very good and I think it would be a great place for a birthday. I will ask the kids when they get up and see if they have any other suggestions. Will you have a car? If so, the fried chicken dinner at Knott's Berry Farm is another one of our favorites. Just my thoughts.:)

I used to make special trips over to Knotts for the fried chicken.....until I tried it at Plaza Inn on Main Street...haven't been back to Knotts since.

Hi guys...me again. Thanks for bearing with me--trying to increase post count.

Our "little" family includes: DD8--she is celebrating her BD on this cruise!, DS3, DH (lost count), and Myself. My husband works for SBC, and I work for Children's Hospital LA.

By the way...this site is addicting. When will I have time to actually get all of the stuff done in time for the cruise, if I am glued to the screen?

Thanks to all for the welcomes, and the great advice. Can't wait to start PM so that I can get even more info, and get signed up for some of the added fun (if it's not too late)

Carol :cool1:

As for Columbia, hmmm where can i go that's dangerous so i don't have to return to the US? Hmmm guerilla prisoner... sounds like a great diet. :rolleyes1

I don't care how bad you think things are right now, this comment is extremely distasteful.

Don't even joke about that. I've been held at gunpoint by guerillas before and it really wasn't very fun.
:scared: Yes, I'm dead serious.

NOW...who wants to go with me in Cartegena??

What are the odds of it happening to the same person again:confused3 Is it like lightening:confused3 Besides you're experienced with this kinda hostage stuff now:idea:
I signed up for Cartagena tour #3, you can come with us:thumbsup2

Going on the theory that lightning doesn't strike the same place twice, I think I'll hang out on your tour....:lmao: Now which one are you going on?

ITA, sarcasm doesn't always translate in typing.
I'm sure her tongue was planted firmly in her cheek.

Knowing Kristina, I thought it was pretty funny

That is just our K! "Little Miss Sunshine", right K? ;)

Ok just an observation/vent here....Certian people are just amazing around here...Someone makes a comment that in todays society is very real and has actually happened to a member of this board and some treat it like its a big joke and those that dislike it must be wrong. Have we not seen in the news in the last week that it was real and took 5 years, to resolve only because they got lucky on the rescue.

we have to remember in a big group like this that just because it has never happened to us it may have happened to someone else and in this case in a very traumatic way....We should all be grown up enough to just apologize for the mistake and drop it and carry on with cruise planning and general conversation...

You know we all feel like we "know" each other. Especially those of us that have a high post count on this thread. That is why we did not take offense.
I have a bad habit of calling my miscarriages "duds". I forget and say that sometimes in public and people are horrified. I can understand it but to me and my close friends and family it is just what I say. :confused3
Also, Kristina has just been through a bad time lately and even if I was offended I would not post it to not make her feel worse.
After all, we're all one big happy family of silly pirates anyway. :lovestruc

I also have a DD8 who celebrated her BD on our last cruise in November and a DS who just turned 3 on Saturday! (And a DD10 and a DS1.5 - but who's counting!)

Looking forward to meeting you!

Tom, the Kids Pirate Newsletter is great! When we get home I'll have to print it in color and give it to Katie. She will get a kick out of it.
