One of the reasons I left private practice for gov't.....
Ditto:thumbsup2

Thanks for keeping things in perspective for me. Yes, we do have a good life and our vacations are really the thing that keeps us going sometimes. We don't really have material things not even a home gaming system. (Yes I know, we are one of the last houses on the planet without one). I have told my kids they can buy their own, but they choose to spend on other things. They do each have a DS that they saved for and bought themselves. One of our cars is 10 years old and the other was 14 years old and just replaced two years ago with a new used car. For me, it is not about what I have and what others don't and it never will be. This lady commutes 10 minutes to work because she lives in one of the most expensive communities in the area and she drives a Jag. My DH commutes 1.5 hours each way and works most of the time while he is commuting. Yes, we chose to live this far away, but it is what we could afford. Anyway, I could go on and on about her, but she is not worth it.
Anyway, my kids and DH are the most important things in my life. Without them, life wouldn't be the same. My kids would give their money to the homeless people on the street, it affects them that much. We try to volunteer when we can to give back to our community and right now it has been to save the pool. My goal in life is to raise responsible, hard-working kids with good values who put others first and realize that they aren't the only people in the world. So, thanks Crash and Dan for reminding me that we are very fortunate. I do realize that a couple of people here have lost their jobs recently and for that I am truly sorry. We have been there before as well. I will let this go and remember to be thankful for all that I do have and remember those that have little or nothing. Does anyone have some extra caffeine for my solo road trip? I tend to fall asleep in a moving car when it is warm and sunny.:cloud9:
Actually, it was your story that made me appreciate the flexibility DH and I have at work:thumbsup2
If I envy the wealthy for anything it is for the travel opportunities, not the cars or houses....ok, maybe the houses sometimes:rolleyes1 ....

ITA, sarcasm doesn't always translate in typing.
I'm sure her tongue was planted firmly in her cheek.

I know she was only joking and while it didn't bother me, I can see where some with families in the military may have a problem:confused3

I'm sure I offend someone, somewhere, at sometime....hard not to:confused3

Pirate Tracker...

For my birthday, DH got me this cool little tracking gizmo called SPOT. Uses GPS to let folks know where you are, and I can send OK, Help, and 911 calls using it. He got cause we're going to be in the back woods - and cell doesn't work. Plus it works anywhere in the world.

Anyway, I tested out the tracking feature yesterday during our shirt run. It's pretty cool - here's the URL... (I prefer the Hybrid view)http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?&glId=0iAykhlmivFJRviK9c1yOFMnXnYLerg8p

We'll have it on during the cruise, so that all our friends can watch and be jealous. :rotfl2:

.

Can't resist.....

I hope y'all have room assignments before 8/18..... it will be real ugly with that many people camped out on deck! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I think 7/17 or 7/18 is in line with Andrew and others thinking.....

Yes, but think about the great spots we will have acquired for PC day!!! Maybe we can rent them out to others?

:offtopic: My FSIL is scheduled for a c-section today! This is their 4th (and I think their last). I'm so excited to be an aunt...again! At least this little girl (still waiting on a name) will grow up knowing me as "Aunt Jen" and not "Jen (the girl that our uncle is dating.)" YAY!!

Another :offtopic:...I was watching the news last night and noticed that the fires in Northern California (Butte County specifically) have turned again and are threatening the homes of many of my friends. I went to college in Nor Cal and the fires are burning just above the town I spent 5 years in! It is still my home away from home and much of my "college family" still live there. Many have been evacuated, but at least they are safe. We just keep praying that their homes are as well. San Diego just went through the fires a year ago, so I know what it's like to worry about your friends and neighbors, and your home! Luckily, we didn't lose anything down here and our friend's homes up north are safe...for now. I hope those of you in Nor Cal are safe from the fires too.

Hi All

I have been enjoying a few (only 100 pages) of your multiple incarnations of this meet and greet thread. Last night I had posted about some of the fun activities, and was told that I needed to bulk up my posting count...so bear with me.

Our little family will be enjoying our first Disney Cruise...and as luck would have it, we were able to snatch a cancellation in Dec. 2007. So excited to get a chance to share in the fun.

Thanks for all of the help, :worship:
Carol

Just tell us anything to get your posts up there!! Glad to have you join us!!

Hi Cheryl,

Lovely flowers!!!:flower3:

Dan has also pulled that trick of sending the flowers on the wrong day! I'm thinking it was when our anniversary fell on a Sunday and he didn't want to pay extra for Saturday delivery (plus we aren't often home all day on a Saturday). I think he sent them on Friday to my office - so it was definitely a surprise.

Sorry - I was 3.5 when you got married and Dan was approaching 2!

Pamela

P.S. Why are there sooooo many Californians on this cruise and so few from the midwest?

I think so many Califorians because of just oneway ticket for airfare:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

One of the reasons I left private practice for gov't.....

So that is your story and you are sticking to it!!!;) John was never one to put in a lot of hours once he went on on salary years ago!!:cheer2:

I don't care how bad you think things are right now, this comment is extremely distasteful.

Lisa........that is just part of the way Kristina talks. I am sure it was meant with sarcasm and just to be taken with a laugh. We all are like that once in awhile.:rolleyes1 I try to be....but not a quick as I used to be. The old age does set in a little.:flower3:

Cheryl,
Congrats!! I am married 15 years this year, my DH's grandparents are married 64. A long, happy marriage is an honor no amount of money can buy.
I aspire to be among that group. Luck has so much to do with life - hence my screen name. I am lucky to be married to a great man among so many other things including this trip!

It does take luck or training of many years.:rotfl2: We fell in love by 16 but waited til 21 to get married. I believe marriage takes lots of patience and laughter too!!:thumbsup2 I am always surpring John on my next adventure. I also just try to make him laugh............sometimes without even trying.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I have something similar to Crash's chart I do to myself. I won't bore you w/ the details but even though we are better off than the huge majority of the world we compare ourselves to the 3-5% above us instead of being thankful we are above 95-97%.

I know she was only joking and while it didn't bother me, I can see where some with families in the military may have a problem:confused3

I'm sure I offend someone, somewhere, at sometime....hard not to:confused3

I offend so many at work they have a word for it "Coralism". It means I do it by ommission. I simply do not think things through but do not mean anything bad.
I equated Kristina's comment to the line from The Devil Wears Prada. "I am a stomach flu away from my goal weight". I actually used that line but changed it to "salmonella poisoning" to a friend yesterday. :)

At this point, we don't have any yet either. My kids, especially DS10, are plain eaters and they didn't really care for Blue Bayou when we ate there 2 years ago. IMO, I would go with Storytellers Cafe at the GC. The food is very good and I think it would be a great place for a birthday. I will ask the kids when they get up and see if they have any other suggestions. Will you have a car? If so, the fried chicken dinner at Knott's Berry Farm is another one of our favorites. Just my thoughts.:)

Thanks for your suggestion..............we won't have a car, we are staying at Hojos and really want to make the most of our three days in Disneyland. I think once we enter the park we will end up staying ALL day - unless we take a mid afternoon break to head back to hojos for a dip in the pool. I will keep Storytellers in my head though for maybe another day besides our first day. Kids will not want to leave the park :lovestruc

No mistake. We've found that unless we really want to eat at a specific restaurant at a specific time ressies's were not needed. I general we grab something to go ( or sit) at the food places in Adventure Land, Tomorrow Land or New Orleans Sq (ditto for DCA)

You can always walk to DTD which has pizza etc. and is only a 3 min walk from either park.

Warning......the food places along Rivers of America get swamped about 1 hr before a Fantasmic show as folks grab the restaurant tables to watch the show from.

Thanks for making me feel better about this. We have been to DisneyWorld twice and had many dining ressies, we always felt like we were running to make our ressie on time. I also have a couple of friends who are DisneyWorld fanatics and they are really giving me a hard time about not scheduling any dining in Disneyland. I think we are just gonna play it by ear, when we are hungry we will eact where we are.

I am now leaving because I have to do my three mile walk!!!:thumbsup2 I am in training to get a hammock on CC.:woohoo:

We are on the tour, show and lunch. I will be lubing the family with sunscreen and insect and bringing both. I would feel safe with shorts.

Thanks, that is what I am planning to do too! We were looking at the show and lunch tour too but our kids are such picky eaters we decided to do just the eco tour and eat back on the ship. It really sounds like a cool tour, i am looking forward to it!

We have no ressies as of now...tonight I am making on for Blue Bayou...Brendan and I talked and that was the only place we really wanted to go (plus it was part of his bday gift!) the rest of the week we can wing it...KNOWING food will be free flowing for the following 2 weeks!

No......not our 40th Anniversary yet. :rolleyes1 John just thought I would expect flowers Sunday so he surprised me today instead.  This is what 40 roses look like!!!

How sweet!
I had to look at the picture really close! At first I thought you were wearing a tiara! :lmao:

Don't even joke about that. I've been held at gunpoint by guerillas before and it really wasn't very fun.
:scared: Yes, I'm dead serious.

NOW...who wants to go with me in Cartegena??

Going on the theory that lightning doesn't strike the same place twice, I think I'll hang out on your tour....:lmao: Now which one are you going on?

That sucks. Some people just don't get that there is more to life than work - and that is sad.

My boss is a 50-something workaholic. Never had a husband or kids. Takes pride in actually losing vacation days because she carries too many year to year. Leaves the office about 8 each night. Rolls her eyes when people go on vacation...

I don't understand people like that :confused3 although I've known several in my career, especially when I was in public accounting. The last two positions I've taken, I've replaced workaholics who worked every weekend and most nights. Both times, my boss has been amazed that the department can get more work accomplished than it did previously and in less time with fewer errors. I very rarely work weekends and strongly believe that family time is vital, so I don't expect those who work for me to work nights and weekends either. I am constantly asking everyone to make sure that they are on schedule to use all of their vacation time as I don't want anyone to lose any of it. I think that workaholics are generally either very inefficient or very unhappy at home (or c -- all of the above!).

.

I bunch of my desert buddies have those for emergencies. I was going to bring a GPS but.....I think I'll bring this little puppy:

sonygpscs1.jpg

It's a Sony GPS tracker for photographers. It comes with software which marries the timestamp on your photos with the GPS track so you can find out where you where when you took a given pic.

It has linkes to Google Earth etc.
