No......not our 40th Anniversary yet. :rolleyes1 John just thought I would expect flowers Sunday so he surprised me today instead.  This is what 40 roses look like!!!

Hi Cheryl,

Lovely flowers!!!:flower3:

Dan has also pulled that trick of sending the flowers on the wrong day! I'm thinking it was when our anniversary fell on a Sunday and he didn't want to pay extra for Saturday delivery (plus we aren't often home all day on a Saturday). I think he sent them on Friday to my office - so it was definitely a surprise.

Sorry - I was 3.5 when you got married and Dan was approaching 2!

Pamela

P.S. Why are there sooooo many Californians on this cruise and so few from the midwest?

That sucks. Some people just don't get that there is more to life than work - and that is sad.

My boss is a 50-something workaholic. Never had a husband or kids. Takes pride in actually losing vacation days because she carries too many year to year. Leaves the office about 8 each night. Rolls her eyes when people go on vacation...

One of the reasons I left private practice for gov't.....

Warning...this is a vent. We are going to an out of town swim meet this weekend that begins Friday late afternoon, so we have to leave Friday morning. DH's boss, who has no kids has rescheduled a meeting 3 times and decided that Friday for lunch is the day. There is no way we can wait for him and make the meet in time. He told his boss that he can't be there and she basically said well either you come to the extended lunch meeting or you might not have a job. Then the only other weekend this summer that my DD has a dance performance that she has been working on since January, my DH's boss has decided to have an executive retreat! UGH!! Yes, I am happy he has a job and makes enough that I don't have to work but this lady drives me crazy! It just isn't right. Someone else asked about the next weekend and she said no, she can't make it. I love how it is all about her and what works best for her. I won't even mention all the kids' events he has missed because of work related stuff. :sad2:
The reason I quit my job was because he isn't around that much and someone needs to be here. Not his fault at all, but man is this frustrating. Does anyone out there need a really hard working CFO? This was even after he and I went out for margaritas tonight.:scared1:
Grand Cayman is looking better and better to move to. Life just shouldn't be this complicated.

I feel your pain. Sounds like a PITA. Hang in there.

P.S. Why are there sooooo many Californians on this cruise and so few from the midwest?

Wondered that myself! :confused3

Thanks for keeping things in perspective for me. Yes, we do have a good life and our vacations are really the thing that keeps us going sometimes. We don't really have material things not even a home gaming system. (Yes I know, we are one of the last houses on the planet without one). I have told my kids they can buy their own, but they choose to spend on other things. They do each have a DS that they saved for and bought themselves. One of our cars is 10 years old and the other was 14 years old and just replaced two years ago with a new used car. For me, it is not about what I have and what others don't and it never will be. This lady commutes 10 minutes to work because she lives in one of the most expensive communities in the area and she drives a Jag. My DH commutes 1.5 hours each way and works most of the time while he is commuting. Yes, we chose to live this far away, but it is what we could afford. Anyway, I could go on and on about her, but she is not worth it.
Anyway, my kids and DH are the most important things in my life. Without them, life wouldn't be the same. My kids would give their money to the homeless people on the street, it affects them that much. We try to volunteer when we can to give back to our community and right now it has been to save the pool. My goal in life is to raise responsible, hard-working kids with good values who put others first and realize that they aren't the only people in the world. So, thanks Crash and Dan for reminding me that we are very fortunate. I do realize that a couple of people here have lost their jobs recently and for that I am truly sorry. We have been there before as well. I will let this go and remember to be thankful for all that I do have and remember those that have little or nothing. Does anyone have some extra caffeine for my solo road trip? I tend to fall asleep in a moving car when it is warm and sunny.:cloud9:

As for Columbia, hmmm where can i go that's dangerous so i don't have to return to the US? Hmmm guerilla prisoner... sounds like a great diet. :rolleyes1

I don't care how bad you think things are right now, this comment is extremely distasteful.

I have a CRUISE related question!

We are signed up for the Mangrove Eco Tour in Cartegena with DCL. No where on the description does it state we whould wear long pants & long sleeves, nor does it say to use insect repellent.

I am planning to take insect repellent. I will most likely take some jeans to wear but was really not thinking I would have to wear them on this excursion. What do you guys think?

We are on the tour, show and lunch. I will be lubing the family with sunscreen and insect and bringing both. I would feel safe with shorts.

Also want to thank all of you for making me feel really old and reminding me some of you were not even born yet, in diapers or parents still in highschool!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Of course we are jealous of all those years of memories with your sweetie that you have. DH and I have 29 fewer years and I can only pray that we are as happy as you are at 40. :goodvibes

YAY! Congrats!
Umm, I was -5 when you guys got married! :)

I was NEGATIVE 6.5! lol
Congrats Cheryl! Way to go!

Hi All
Our little family will be enjoying our first Disney Cruise...and as luck would have it, we were able to snatch a cancellation in Dec. 2007. So excited to get a chance to share in the fun.

Thanks for all of the help, :worship:

Disneyland Related Question..................

I am really struggling with dining at Disneyland and I need some advice from the Ca experts. At this point I have not made any priority seating dining at all. I figured we would plan to be in the parks early as possible, grab a quick bite at McDonalds on the way in and then have an early lunch around 11 and then an early dinner arpound 5 to avoid some of the crowds. Figured we would just eat wherever we were at the time.

HOWEVER, DS is turning 13 which is the first day we are in Disneyland. I wanted to do a character breakfast but he kind of stuck his nose up at that idea (he is too cool & too old for that :confused3) So.............I was searching through the sit down full service restaurants that are interesting and would be good for all of us. I keep looking at Blue Bayou - its right up his alley BUT the menu (its an old one and it may be updated now) does not seem all that appealing to kids............both of my kids like plain foods, no fancy stuff. SO, those of you who have been, can you tell me if they have chicken strips, grilled cheese, or just plain steaks or chicken?

If I don't make any dining reservations do you think I am making a big mistake??? Thanks!

At this point, we don't have any yet either. My kids, especially DS10, are plain eaters and they didn't really care for Blue Bayou when we ate there 2 years ago. IMO, I would go with Storytellers Cafe at the GC. The food is very good and I think it would be a great place for a birthday. I will ask the kids when they get up and see if they have any other suggestions. Will you have a car? If so, the fried chicken dinner at Knott's Berry Farm is another one of our favorites. Just my thoughts.:)

I only hope Brendan and I can do the same...it is really something to work for and shows it can be done!

I took him up the hill to Murphys to get the shirts today, mistakenly thinking it'd be cooler up there and he could run on my parents place, while I checked on it. NOT! It was as hot in the foothills as it was in the valley!! Yuck!

.

My parents live at Lake Tulloch - they packed up the trailer and went to Pine Crest to escape the heat - or so they thought - it's really hot further up the hill as well.

Disneyland Related Question..................

No mistake. We've found that unless we really want to eat at a specific restaurant at a specific time ressies's were not needed. I general we grab something to go ( or sit) at the food places in Adventure Land, Tomorrow Land or New Orleans Sq (ditto for DCA)

You can always walk to DTD which has pizza etc. and is only a 3 min walk from either park.

Warning......the food places along Rivers of America get swamped about 1 hr before a Fantasmic show as folks grab the restaurant tables to watch the show from.

Cheryl,
Congrats!! I am married 15 years this year, my DH's grandparents are married 64. A long, happy marriage is an honor no amount of money can buy.
I aspire to be among that group. Luck has so much to do with life - hence my screen name. I am lucky to be married to a great man among so many other things including this trip!

Dan and Crash,
Luck again... Thanks for the reminder.

well I'm not surprised it's the DW that is panicky. I don't know about your house but in our house- I do everything. so ofcourse I get a little "anxious" when I realize that "everything" is quite a lot to do- for something like a cruise/long vacation. LOL
DH doesn't do the worrying- I do. DH doesn't do the "do-ing"- I do. LOL
All he has to do is try to work overtime if he can so we can afford stuff like this- my job to do everything else. LOL

You sound like me!

Hi All

I have been enjoying a few (only 100 pages) of your multiple incarnations of this meet and greet thread. Last night I had posted about some of the fun activities, and was told that I needed to bulk up my posting count...so bear with me.

Our little family will be enjoying our first Disney Cruise...and as luck would have it, we were able to snatch a cancellation in Dec. 2007. So excited to get a chance to share in the fun.

Carol

Welcome! See, we're all lucky to be on this trip! Tell us about your little family, young or few?

I was checking out the cruise meet threads for the last 2 MR cruises to see if/when they got their room assignments. For the cruise leaving on 8/3 they received theirs last Thursday/Friday - for the cruise leaving 8/10 they have not received theirs yet. I also checked out a few of the Wonder threads also and have seen a similar pattern. Based on this I would hazard a guess that we won't see the mass room assignments being posted until next Thursday or Friday (8/17 or 8/18).

I think 7/17 or 7/18 is in line with Andrew and others thinking.....
