I concur with disneyfaniaz's post comparing Alaska and Norway. My preference scenery wise would be Norway but if you are looking to see wildlife, Alaska is better. In Norway we didn't see so much as a chipmunk or squirrel even while hiking in the hills above the towns.
For those interested in excursion information, here's our rundown. In Stavanger we did the Pulpit Rock hike. The average hiking time is 2 hours each way. We did it in an hour and a half each way wearing trail shoes instead of hiking boots due to packing constraints but we saw a lot of people in tennis shoes. The trail has some steep uphill portions and most of it requires navigating rocks that can be slippery. I did a lot of stairmaster prior to the trip which helped but I had a pack on with 3 full water bottles, a camera, a box lunch, etc, which added some extra poundage.
At Alesund we did the Adult Path of the Trolls excursion which was a full 8 hours but had some great views. Our excursion did not include lunch but we had packed some sandwiches from room service that came in handy since the bus only made a brief stop about 2:00 for people to buy something to eat at a roadside café.
The Disney kayaking excursion in Geiranger was full so we booked through Active Geiranger. This company seemed very disorganized both in the booking process and on the actual excursion but there's not much to choose from since it's a very small town (about 300 residents). We also did the panorama bus to 2 lookout points that took about 90 minutes and had nice photo ops.
We took the 4 hour adults only Bergen tour which was a good balance of hitting some highlights (Edvard Grieg's house, Fantof Stave Church, walking tour of the Hansa area) and having some time to do shopping or visit the fishmarket on your own.
