I didn't know where Lake Mary was. Looked it up! Must have past right by on the way to Daytona Beach from Orlando!! How do you like it there? Property values?

The house behind ours just went on the market this week... we could use some good neighbors... (though personally, I think its WAY overpriced...) but then again... this town's got enough crazies in it already...

Glad to hear you made it safe. Stay out of the sun!! :sunny: :rotfl2:

Welcome first timers....

Looks like you and a lot of us have cruised together before:

12/18/04 1st 10-day Christmas Cruise

There were lots and lots and lots of us on that cruise!! :)

So what is wrong with us that we'd rather be cruising than at WDW. :duck:

I'd agree with you - Sometimes I feel guilty that we've only taken the kids once and Maggie was 2 1/2. Because the kids weren't in school we were able to arrive the day after Labor Day so, lines and crowds were non-existant. Now, we're limited to school vacation schedules - I'd rather not pay top price for the priviledge of standing in lines. Cruising with DCL is perfect because Maggie is still at the age where the characters are an important part of the experience and still have the magic of WDW - at least with the cruise, she was able to interact with the characters with a set amount of people - you can only let so many people on a ship...Mike even played ping pong with Pinochio one afternoon - as he ( Pinochio)was wandering the deck - how priceless is that??? Of course, the cameras were with Grandma and me as we were in line for a Princess photo op.

Or having to take 2nd or 3rd shift...I've thought of that, too. Not to mention that I'm not really thrilled about going back to school with a bunch of 'young kids'. I wonder what (legitimate) degree I can get on-line? :badpc:

A lot of universities are offering legitimate on-line degrees. U of I has a big on-line extension campus - I applied for my MLS (Library Science) at U of I. I think I would have had to make a campus visit 1 at the begining -and 1 time the 2nd year.

Unfortunately, it was extremely competive and my undergrad grades weren't quite good enough...Then tried to get into a traditional campus program in Texas and discovered why there is a shortage of librarians (in addition to the low pay) - there isn't undergrad certified programs which narrows the pool consirably - Usually the minimum entry point is a 3.0... My 2.85 just wasn't gonna cut it - even though my GREs were current and off the chart ---didn't they realize just how long I had been out of school - my 2.85 isn't a reflection of my current work habits and abilities...

Don't feel guilty, Scoopie. You're a busy cone. The kids probably just drip all over the place anyway. ;)

OK, I'm looking for opinions again and know that I can count on you all. If you had to start over with a new career (one that provides a paycheck, by the way) and you were (insert age here, but let's say for an example 50), what career would you choose? And how many years of schooling would you be willing to put in to get there? Let's also say that any college degrees and previous work experience are practically useless at this point.

I wish I would have gotten my library degree when they were still offering bachelors programs...I had applied to BGSU's library science program because it was one of the last 4 year schools offering a accredited bachelors - but, between the time I applied and actually went - my mom was determined I was to go into something with more $ - I did International Business - then worked in Marketing Research (computers not calling) - hated it - stayed long enough after I was married to get the mortgage approval then promptly went to work for even less money as a YMCA aquatic director - my mom didn't speak to me for over a week she was sooo livid...But, I loved what I was doing and I'm still in aquatics and fitness and able to be at home with my kids - so, in the long run I'm glad I finally followed my heart - still wish for the MLS - but, I'm going to have to take a bunch of undergrad courses to get my GPA up and then apply again...

I think now, I'd really love to do archival rather than traditional library...

Don't be so hard on yourself. You're a smart cone. Repeat after me...."I'm a smart cone."

You must be a genius to have figured out how to travel the country and go on multiple cruises with almost NO cash output (other than postage!!)

You're my hero, Scoopie!

oops = I forgot to log off after Scoopie (Maggie) finished posting... :rotfl2: Now, if I could figure out how to free load like Scoopie is, that would be a perfect job!!!

Joining the thread

We are Carolyn (DW) and Alex (DH), live in Florida and we are both RNs. We try to keep up with the boards but often fall behind. We joined the westbound repo thread, met lots of great disers, and decided to take the double dip cruise (if I can get the time off). We look forward to getting to know everyone. Alex

Hi to all! We were also on the westbound repo cruise and are SRIOUSLY thinking of joining your fun as well.

How many Disers are sailing on this cruise. Is there a central repository of info (other than the 8000+ posts ;)) to reference. I'd like to come up to speed and join the fun. Some the the repo folks put together great wb sites and posts as a point of reference and wondered if you may have one as well.

Have fun,
Steve

Hope you decide to join us! As far as the info goes, we're just messing around, getting to know one another and having fun. There is lots of good info buried in the posts, but also lots of fluff!

Just hang around for a couple of weeks and ask questions and all will help. Great group of folks here!!

Welcome, new folks! Though I guess we cruised with you before, Carolyn & Alex. Steve, we have a couple websites, but they won't really catch you up on this thread. Most of it is fluff anyway, as you will find out. Just "getting to know you" stuff. Mary, WDWLVR, has a link on her signature for pics of the cruisers here. Be sure and send yours! And Monica, Mickeymo, has a web site for Scoopie's travels. Scoopie is our mascot, Double Scoop, get it? My DH, Tinksdad, will be setting up a web site for the scuba divers in the group. Oh, and Irene, Chip&Dale&fun, every once in a while does a synopsis post for us. Again, mostly fluff!

Mostly, we are a group that just wants to have fun!

Nah! That's fine! We've never gotten into Harry Potter here. I think we watched the first two movies. Kids have never seen them (they're sheltered) but we've been considering a family viewing soon....

We try to steer them away from movies that have more mature elements to them....I think they're getting to the point they can see that sorcery isn't the way to go, but I'm still very protective of sexual content in movies. Typically I preview them first and if it's too much in the way of sex, they don't get to watch it. I'd LOVE to let them see My Big Fat Greek Wedding, 'cept for the bed scenes. They want to see How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days b/c we've told them all the funny parts, but there is just too much in the way of sex in that for my liking....ok, not for MY liking....I like it very much, but for THEM it's too much! Or Something about Mary....the movie CRACKS me up and I think they'd find a lot of the parts of it very funny, but not at the expense of being exposed to all the bad stuff. Not yet...there's plenty of time for that later.

I enjoy a lot of the kids' books too. In fact, currently KT is reading "Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism" to us and it's really good. Good writer. Good reader! :)

I agree!!! And I thought the kids were the last ones to watch HP - and that was only by accident because an adult babysitter had brought it over unknown to me...So, then I previewed the HP books and the rest of the movies before the kids saw them - I haven't taken Mike to see S.W. episode III either - not sure I will even though he's seen the rest as family movies...He understands that we want to watch it first before making a decision whether or not he sees it.

I love a lot of the children's books - I try to read the Newberry Honor and award books every year - as well as the Texas Bluebonnet books - just to keep up on current children's fiction...One of my favorite children's authors is Andrew Clements - you can tell a teacher influenced him greatly - because the teachers are all positive influences in the kids lives - Frindle is by far my favorite of his...

We give books instead of gift bag "thank you's" at our b-day parties...and usually Barnes and Noble gift certificates as presents.

Diana & Kevin,

Thanks for the welcome and taking me up to speed. There is nothing wrong with a group having fun!!!

Do you know the staterooom cat availability? We are planning to book through DVC. They wouldn't tell us until we were 100% ready. We were planning for a Cat 6 or possibly a 8/9.

Thanks!

My dog can't even be bothered with barking when a stranger comes to the door... she's too lazy for that. Retired greyhounds take their retirement VERY seriously!!!!

Steve, we're DVC members too, several here are. In fact, a couple are going on the Member Cruise. Wish we could.

To find out availability, go to the DCL site, or a TA site, and go through the steps as if you were booking for cash. That should let you know if any of the categories are sold out.

Steve - I know for a fact that there are still Cat 9's available... I was looking into what others were left besides ours just yesterday... not sure about the other Cats.... didn't look at those, though I know there was availabilty in several higher categories. (See my earlier post a few days ago... I'm the one in the Cat 9 broom closet... no 7 phones in the room for me... sorry Stace...;) )

A lawyer and a blonde woman happen to be sitting next to each other on a long flight from L. A. to New York. The lawyer leans over to her and asks if she would like to play a fun game. The blonde is tired and just wants to take a nap, so she politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks.

The lawyer persists, saying that the game is really easy and a lot of fun. He explains how the game works.

"I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me, and vice-versa." Again, the blonde politely declines and tries to get some sleep. The lawyer figures that since his opponent is a blonde he will
easily win the match, so he makes another offer. Okay, how about this. If you don't know the answer you pay me only $5, but if I don't know the answer, I will pay you 500 dollars."

This catches the blonde's attention and, figuring that there will be no end to this torment unless she plays, she agrees to play the game.

The lawyer asks the first question. "What's the distance from the Earth to the moon. The blonde doesn't say a word, reaches in to her purse, pulls out a five dollar bill, and hands it to the lawyer.

Now, it's the blonde's turn. She asks the lawyer. . "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down with four?" The lawyer looks at her with a puzzled look. He takes out his laptop computer and searches all the references. He taps into the Air-phone with his modem and searches the Net and even the Library of Congress. Frustrated he sends E-mails to all his coworkers and friends he knows....all to no avail.

After over an hour of searching for the answer he finally gives up. He wakes the blonde and hands her $500.

The blonde politely takes the $500 and turns away to get back to sleep.

The lawyer, who cannot imagine what the answer is, and is going nuts trying to figure it out, is more than a little frustrated! He wakes the blonde and asks, "Well, so what goes up a hill with three legs and comes down with four.?"

The blonde reaches into her purse, hands the lawyer $5, and goes back to sleep.
