(I lost 15 lbs in 13 weeks).

I only have about 10 weeks before the Member cruise otherwise I'd try your plan! ;)

I still haven't let Alicia watch "Something about Mary", and she's 14! It would be tough to watch that one with your kid, maybe she can see it when she's grown. Yeah, I think most kids over 4 or 5 can understand that sorcery isn't a real option, just a fun fantasy. HP was the book that turned Alicia into a reader when she was 7. With that first book her reading comprehension and oddly enough, her ability to speak fluently, just took off! I guess it turned her into a talker, too.

I'll chime in to praise librarians in general. :earsboy: I was raised in one and oculd not wait to get my first library card. I

You were raised in a librarian? Wow! Musta been dark in there! ;)

Yeah, maybe I'll make a list of movies that are good and/or funny and give it to the kids when they move out....the "I can't watch these in front of you" movies! :)

glad to hear I'm not the only one....

We try to steer them away from movies that have more mature elements to them....
DS knows that I have to watch a movie before he can see it if it is PG-13. I guess the exception was last night when he came in while I was watching Phantom of the Opera, but it was almost over. I can't believe all of the junk that some parents let their kids watch. I'm hopping off my soapbox, now.
Another TOP! pirate:

In that case, you'll need to do the following:
  • Spend 20 hours a week doing a 40-hr a week Brand Managers job (which included buying nail polish and shampoo by the tractor-trailer load)
  • Write lesson plans for 60 hours of class time (Marketing and Advertising)
  • Actually teach those lessons... to college-aged students from 2-5PM... (prime naptime in a college-student's life)
  • Attend grad school 1 night a week, study group 1 night a week, and create a complete mock training program in how to train salespeople to merchandise display space. (actually, mine was real, and related to my real job)
  • Oh yeah... have 2 kids and a hubby at home. (Thankfully, he dealt with 'home'
Funny thing is, I missed my students' graduation from the college I was teaching at, as we left on a cruise that day... it had been paid in full long before Ray's job disappeared, so we went anyway... boy did I need THAT break!!!! (I think our entire onboard charge at the end of the cruise was $200... how's that for frugality at it's best!!!)

Yup...I'm right there with you. Even some PG movies throw stuff in that makes me go :earseek: For example....The Disney Muppets Wizard of Oz that was on not too long ago...did they have to say the word "nipples?" Ok, my kids know what they are, but to hear a joke about them in a Muppet movie was crazy!!

Depends on what the PG-13 is for....Pirates of the Caribbean is PG-13 for drinking, gambling and "pirate violence." :earseek: HELLO?!??! It's a PIRATE movie!!!

We have found a great site.... www.currentattractions.com that lists *why* movies are rated like they are. At least we can see what's in them and decide if they contain anything we're completely opposed to (not that I'm opposed to sex....just exposing the kids to so much of it so young.)

OK other moms out there... what's your take on the Fantastic Four movie? Christopher is begging me to let him see it... to me, it doesn't look very 'kid-friendly' (he's 8), yet it's being hyped on Lunchables commercials, and in ToysRus... I just hate it when they hype the PG-13 movies for kids who still have 5 years to go...

Anyone???

Nevermind. I'll stay fat! :)

I gained it all back and then some once I moved to FL and got lazy.
(Oh wait... that's not lazy... that's NORMAL life.)

Fantastic Four - You must have seen the "you're hot too" preview. Which your son would probably see and say "yuk". Don't know what else is in it, but it's going to be somewhat violent for sure.

We sometimes rent an older comedy movie that we remember as very funny, and are kind of shocked at the content. I think things were a lot looser in the 70s and 80s. We have a copy of Blazing Saddles that we haven't let Alicia watch yet, and I don't remember why it was rated R. Guess we need to watch it on the sly. All the kids at the dance studio name Grease as their favorite movie, and we did let DD watch it pretty young, but that one's pretty bad, too! I guess pre-screening is the only way to go!

I remember seeing that in the movies like it was yesterday... I was in 4th grade... and during the scene at the drive-in (when she slams the car door on him, and he says something to the effect of "She broke it..."); me, in my infinite 4th grade wisdom and NO concept of an inside voice loudly ask my sister, "WHAT BROKE???" :confused3

All this reading talk. I like to read our boards and the Scuba Boards. If there is time left in the day after all the necessary stuff and I sit down to read a book, it usually puts me to sleep, I mean........ it relaxes me! :earseek:

Usually for me it's the airplane rides where I get some reading done. Although I am looking forward to the new HP book, which I won't get to read until everyone else is done with it!

Joining the thread

We are Carolyn (DW) and Alex (DH), live in Florida and we are both RNs. We try to keep up with the boards but often fall behind. We joined the westbound repo thread, met lots of great disers, and decided to take the double dip cruise (if I can get the time off). We look forward to getting to know everyone. Alex

Welcome to our crazy bunch... we spend a lot of time here talking about cruise AND 'non-cruise' stuff... but we've got time to pass (see counter below for exactly HOW much time), and people to get to know! Many on this thread have cruised together before... looking at your past cruises, you've probably cruised with some of them...

WDWLVR (Mary) has a great website set up for the cruise - check out the link in her siggy to 'meet' us all... and send her your info to get added to the site.

Our Florida resident count on this board is growing! :sunny:

I didn't know where Lake Mary was. Looked it up! Must have driven past right by on the way to Daytona Beach from Orlando!! How do you like it there? Property values?
