30 Day Shred Results? Anyone?

I'm at Day 3 and finally getting into the grove a little more. Still sore bu much, much better!

How is everyone else doing? Just curious when people are starting to notice changes in the scale or clothes?

Happy Shredding!

Hi Everyone---
I like to join in since I just bought 30 Day Shred. Now marketing really works on me and when I saw “lose up to 20 pounds in 30 day” …..Well I just had to get it. I’m sure I’m not going to lose 20 lb. but I will try this for 30 days. Also trying to get Dh to do it with me.

I’ve been running for a while and really want to lose those extra lbs. that creep up on you each year because you’re getting OLDER. :scared1: I am also hoping that I can run faster with a little weight loss. I love running but finding the time to do it is hard with our son’s schedule.
I plan on starting the program tomorrow.

Vicki

Welcome, welcome! I'm on day 5 tomorrow. I took a break today because I was so sore I could barely walk. I think I'll make a full rebound tomorrow.

I bought 30 Day Shred over the weekend. I'm going to start tomorrow before work. I assume that since it is "30 Day Shred" it is supposed to be done every day for 30 days with no days off in between workouts, correct? When do you move up levels? Does she tell you in the DVD or do you decide when to move up on your own?

Well, I did my workout on Friday night, and then took Sat, Sun, and this morning off. I might do a workout this evening, but my upper back is still really sore, and I do think it's muscles. I feel like a slacker, but I don't really enjoy doing jumping jacks when each one brings a sharp inhale of pain, you know? But I want to give it a try tonight, if I have time to, while dinner is cooking or something.

KAA - Great to hear you're doing better and you're still at it. I started seeing a difference in my clothes at the beginning of the 2nd week? Now, my jeans are kind of loose and slip down if I don't wear a belt. Not like they're going to fall OFF, but loose none the less. Toward the end of the 1st week, my scale was creeping UP, and I wasn't sure if it was because of beer, or sweets (my daughter insisted on celebrating Oreo's 100th birthday all week last week! They are one of my weaknesses!) or what. I'd read online though, that many people see their weight go UP at first because we're building muscle. I also read that in the 2nd week, you'll notice a difference in your clothes, but that the weight really starts coming off during level 3.

Vicki - welcome aboard! I think that this workout will be very complementary to your running schedule. The cardio that you've already built up running will help you during the cardio bits in this part. I noticed that when I was running, my leg muscles were great, and I lost a little weight, but nothing targeted. I wasn't moving down sizes like I am with this. I mean, it's not like the weight's melting off me right now with this, but I am seeing much more results with this than when I was training for my half marathons. But I was never a truly consistent trainee/runner, so take that with a grain of salt. I also love running, but I dislike treadmill running. After a horrid 10k on Thanksgiving, I was left sick as a dog in bed for 3 days of the holiday weekend. Not fun. (guess I shouldn't have been running in freezing drizzle while just getting over an upper respiratory infection, huh? live and learn!) So, I decided to give up running for the winter. I miss it a lot more than I thought I would, and I'm excited for it to start warming up so I can run outside again. I guess I might start c25k again on my treadmill... we'll see after this 30ds. Anyway, I also find it hard to fit running into my schedule. In the mornings, I guess would be the best time. Now that I'm used to gettingup extra early for 30ds, I guess I can switch that over to running when I'm done. Otherwise, after school/work, I only get a few hours with DD before she goes to bed (she's in 2nd grade, how old is your son?), and I don't want to waste my time with her running, you know? And after she goes to bed, I want to wind down to I can go to bed too, since I have to be up between 5:30 -6 so I can work out and get everyone out the door on time.

oh, and also be aware, Vicki, you'll probably be sore the first few days of the program. But keep going... it'll get better as you keep working those same muscles, and your soreness will most likely be gone by the end of the week.

Tigger - sounds like you're doing great. Keep it up! Side note: you gave 2 hour long masages? Is that a fun job? I can see it being nice and relaxing, but also being strenuous (do your hands get sore???) and at times, icky. (you don't always get to choose your clients, I'm guessing?)

How's everyone else doing? Ashley (LittleMissMickey), Melinda (melindaRuns)???

KAA1972--Thanks for the welcome. Good for you for being on day 5.

hops&dreams--Thanks for the welcome and hearing about your experiences with running and the DVD. Our son is 5 yrs old. He also calls himself a "runner". He's done a couple of the kids races at DL during the marathon weekends and he just loves it. As the days get longer we will be able to go for family walks/runs in the evenings. But I am looking forward to doing an extra workout program now. Running once or twice a week isn't really helping me loose.

Tonight I will start day 1 then only 29 more days to go !!!

Worried about the effect that the Shred has on my knees. I have decided to stick with my elliptical and do some workouts that I downloaded on my Kindle Fire. There is an ab workout, an arm workout, a leg workout and a cardio workout. I did the ab, the leg workout and most of the arm workout (Skipped the side planks at the end). I will try the cardio workout later. They are free and last from 5-10 minutes. You select the length of time you want. There is a video with them and a clock. I'm trying to do about 80 minutes total on my elliptical everyday and put all of my food and water, etc in my ichange journal.

I hope to start jogging again in the next few weeks once soccer practice starts. I also plan to start walking on my days off once the kids are off to school. I'll start that again in two weeks as this week and next, the kids have half days on those days and we will be getting our taxes done and I have a meeting another day.

Good luck to everyone!

TTFN :tigger:

My exciting news for the night - DH noticed that I lost weight and mentioned to me that my working out is paying off!!! Woo hoo for him noticing and WHOA for him actually saying something encouraging to me about it!!! :goodvibes

Tigger - I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who uses kiddo's sports practices as my own personal exercise time! The first time I took DD to tennis, I ran laps around the parking lot, school, and tennis courts. The other parents looked at me like I was crazy, but by the 3rd practice, I had 3 or 4 dads running too! ha ha! By the end of the tennis season, they were opening the track for us during tennis!

Vicki - DD is 8, and started coming with me last year when I ran. When I do 5k's or less, and no one is home to watch her, she comes with me, and I do run/walk intervals. She really loves it, we get to spend time together, and she is actually starting to enjoy exercise, which is a relief. She's built like a stick, but she's a total book-worm, and had NO interest in anything that "made her sweaty" before she began running with me. I hope that it's just the beginning of a life long love of taking care of herself. When I was taking longer runs, and she had learned to ride a 2 wheeler, she would ride her bike with me as I ran. Sometimes she'd race me (sprints, when I was working on speed) or she'd wait for me at intersections when I was going slow and steady for distance. She's a terrific partner and we're both looking forward to starting up together again this spring, when it's consistently warmer out.

Didn't do my workout this evening, but DH's words of encouragement have got me excited to get up tomorrow to work out!

Sometimes it works out that my youngest has practice the same time as my DH and DD11 and we are at the school track. I love walking the track. I will be doing the Relay for Life in mid May and last year I walked about 15 miles that night.

I did another elliptical workout tonight. I did the 4th preset workout and it was the most difficult one yet with close to 10 minutes of level 7 resistance! I could hardly move the legs. My arms got a good workout!

Here I am! :)

I haven't Jillianed in a few days, despite my lovely, untarnished workout calendar, which is why I have been hiding out a little...

I am so glad to hear positive news and it's so motivating to hhear how you juggle your lives and families!
Jhenn- that's awesome news about hubs noticing your achievement!
Tigger- I understand about the knees. I have arthritis, and that's a real pain!
Welcome, Vicki & Jules! Glad to hear that our group is gaining steam!

I did achieve my 5k goal, 30 minutes pretty much on the nose. I have been on the elliptical the past few nights. I am wondering if I'm better off doing lots of cardio with less than two weeks to go... you all know the feeling, I wanted my results to show up faster! (I have had results, but I am greedy.)

I am planning to get back in the swing of it, but it did feel good to take a little break. Only 4 more days left in my twenties! (Anybody else get emotional at this milestone?:scared1:

Hi
Did day 1 yesterday and it's a great workout. Cardo was no problem at all, now I thought I was going to die with the push ups. I have NO upper body strength at all.
Even had DH doing it with me and our muscles were "shaky" afterwards but feeling great today. Will do day 2 later on tonight.

My scale is moving in the opposite direction. I guess I can't "carb load" for these workouts like I do for a 1/2 marathon.:lmao:

I did my first 30 Day Shred workout last night. It was a little difficult but not as difficult at I thought it was going to be. I'm going to do each level for 10 days. I've also just orderd 4 more Jillain DVDs. lol

Ashley - I felt anxious leading up to my 30th birthday. I reflected on where I thought my life would be at that age vs where it actually is. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that my life is pretty darn great. I had a few things happen that could really have screwed up my life (got pregnant early, hadn't been dating the dad very long... ended up getting married and although it's not always peaches, we're still married 9 years later!) I thought about how far we've come, how proud I am of myself for the things I've accomplished in life and done the RIGHT way. So I stopped freaking out and enjoyed it.

I teased DH relentlessly about his 30th (his was 4 months before mine) because I thought it wouldn't be a big deal to him. Little did I know that he was really bothered by his 30th, because there were some unresolved "I'll do that before I turn 30" type things - mainly treating his body right and getting in shape. Here, almost 2 years later, he's just starting to noticably lose weight... he and I are in a minor competition about it. So... on his 30th, he was quiet, sullen and reflective. On my 30th, I was jokey (poking fun at myself) and celebratory, my normal cheerful self. So enjoy it - 30 only comes once!

And just for prosperity - here's how my comparison of where I thought I'd be at 30 vs where I was at 30 went...
I thought at 30, I'd be a newlywed (wanted to get married between 27-29) and hopefully by having my 1st or getting ready to have my 1st. I'd live in the city (downtown Chicago) and have a highly successful carreer (doing I don't know what) and be ready to drop that the moment I became a mom. My husband would be funny, attentive, and social.
When I was 30, DH and I had been married for 7 years, had a 7 year old daughter, we had a beautiful house (the kind of house we expected to not be in until DD was in high school!), 2 cars that were paid off, enjoying successful, fulfilling careers, and are even able to put money away for the future and yearly luxury-style vacations (hand't ever thought that at 30, we'd be staying in a deluxe and not selling our souls to do so!).

So... it's really interesting what you think and how it actually turns out. It may not be exactly what you pictured for yourself - it may be even better!

As far as Jillian-ing... I have been bad and I haven't done it since Friday. My back is still sore, and I don't think it's from the exercising. It's worse in the mornings than it is in the afternoons. In the mornings, I wince just to sit up in bed. So, I think I need to start working out after work (bummer!) so it'll work for my back. I'm going to try that later this week and see how it goes. It's harder for me to consistently fit into my schedule after work, but we'll see. if I had kept up with it, I'd be more than halfway through at this point. But I've skipped 5 workouts now, so ... I think I'll go back to level 1 until the end of the week and then start level 2 again. :-(

Still be shredded by Easter? I'll have to do the calculation later... back to work!

Hello everyone!

Just thought I'd join in. I bought this DVD about 2 years ago, tried it and it ripped me to pieces. Not in a good way. I stopped halfway, threw it back in the case and vowed to never see that DVD cover again! It was HARD. :lmao:

Well seeing all of you motivating folks I decided to try it again after my boxing tonight. I had to stop about 3 times to get some water, but overall I completed it fairly well. I was dripping sweat and my arms are still shaking a little bit but I'm quite proud of myself and think this will become a regular thing! :thumbsup2 Not so much "30 day" shred as it will probably be a 60 day. I'm currently training for a half marathon that's coming up in May so this DVD will be on my xtrain days, probably 3 times a week. I just took some before pictures tonight, although I also do boxing, pilates, running and some other things so it's not all 30 day shred results.

Currently I use 3lb weights, although for the last set of side lunges I just lifted my arms because I couldn't lift the weights up anymore. I only have 3 & 5lb weights.

As for my favorite moves? Butt-kicks because they are pretty much just running. Chest Flys are fun and easy to me. Reverse crunches, and a lot of the ab work isn't too bad. I don't mind the squats and boxing too.

Least favorite? LUNGES. Why, why, why are those even legal? :rotfl2: Static forward lunges with the bicep curls are the worst. I also hate the squat presses. Jump Rope & Jumping Jacks, just because I run already so that's extra work on my legs and it's tiring. And, of course. Push ups. I have terrible upper body strength, I do the girlie ones but still not very well.

Snow White---Wow you are doing a lot of different types of workout :worship: Good for you ....talk about motivating.

Just finished up doing day 3. Arms not as shaky but those darn pushups are the worst. Looking forward to working out tomorrow. I am so glad I'm doing some type of workout since we've had rain all week and will be raining through the weekend so no running for me.

Happy shredding everyone !

I hate the butt-kicks. They really bother my shins. I basically just jog in place and not kick my legs as high as they do.

I also have a lot of trouble with the pushups because of my wrists. I can't put them flat on the floor so I usually do them on my knuckles. (I'd say my wrists only bend backwards about 45-50 degrees, not even close to the almost 90 needed for the pushups.) However, I did get some yoga blocks and will try using them tonight. I need to find some wrist flexibility/strengthening exercises.

Thanks! I like to mix it up.

Just finished Day 2. I only had to take one break this time in the middle of some jumping jacks. My thighs are killing me but the rest of me is okay. I did my first 5k outside yesterday so that probably didn't help me rest much for those dang lunges. After 2 days I already feel it. :goodvibes

Hope everyone else is surviving Jillian's wrath out there! :rotfl2:

Day 5 going strong. My push ups are SO pathetic but I keep trying.

Still storming out here......have not been able to run. So I am really glad for the wrath of Jillian!!

Keep going everyone :thumbsup2

OK... I ended up taking a week off. well... more than a week. From Friday to the following Sunday.

So... I'm starting over. I started level 1 again today. I was planning on doing it just a few times and then going back to level 2, but man, it really kicked my butt this morning, so I'm going to start my 10 days all over again.

29 days to go! :sad2:

In my little lapse, I did learn that it works best for me to work out first thing in the morning. I feel/see the results, and if I put the workout off until later in the day, I end up not doing them. So... this is what works for me. I will do them during the week, but we'll see about weekends. Right now... life is totally stressing me out, and this workout in the morning is very cathartic for me. I think I need these to get through my work-day right now and not quit on the spot!

I also find that I do best when I do the workout first thing in the morning! I definitely need the break from Jillian for my knees. I have still been doing the elliptical twice a day. I finally saw a small drop in weight this morning. Not sure if I'll get in another workout today due to DD7 being sick.

Gotta go pick up DD11!
