2021 Disney Vacation Club Annual Dues

I think they are baking in the full cost of a fully running resort with COVID in 2021 because if not, DVD would need to eat any additional charges since they guarantee the costs above the dues notwithstanding insurance.

If there was to be anything given back for being closed in 2020; I think they have to issue a credit for 2020 against 2021's invoice. I don't think they could cover that in the declaration, but I'm also not holding my breath anything will be seen.

Going up. Even though they were shuttered for a few months. And less staff working since they re-opened. Ugh!

I have not read it all yet but remember what they said is that the dues would be credited from 2020.

2021 budgets would not include that. But, when the bill actually comes, that is where you’d see the credit. So, I’m waiting to see if we see that somewhere.

But, I notice that the rise at RIV is smaller which means other resorts with larger changes will be closing that gap.

Checked AKV. Others should do same for other resorts. It looks like the major increases from 2020 are about $1.6 million for Housekeeping and $1 million for Transportation. That likely reflects the additional union contract increase and a lot of the extra costs for extra cleaning and preparation due to covid.

As to not showing any decreases due to any cost savings in 2020, and assuming there is any such cost savings, that is not something that is supposed to be in the 2021 budget which covers only 2021 not anything from 2020. If there is to be any set off for savings from 2020, that will show up as a set-off in your annual dues statement provided in late December.

What is interesting is that it appears the 2021 budget is being based on the assumption that the DVC resorts will be fully functional and open during 2021, i.e., it does not appear any deduction is being made if the resorts remain in limited use for all or part of next year.

Looking at AKV as well as an example; I don't really see a big credit would even be possible for a closure.

Of the $8.0728/pp:

Taxes: $1.5462 - property taxes aren't going to decrease
Capital Reserve: $1.2028 - The building is still "worn" by the elements; the roof still ages, ext - so no decrease could be here.

Of the remaining $5.3238 for the operating expenses:
537351

The only things I see here could be administration, house keeping, membership security, and utilities. I'm not going to count busses since to move the same number of people, you need twice as many or more now. So you're left with $2.8904.

Disney was closed for 116 days or about 3.8 months. Say because some of these things still continue at least in part when the resort closed, you only realize half of the savings over that time:

$2.8904 / 12 = $0.24087 / month
$0.24087 * 3.8 = $0.9153 / entire shutdown amount
$0.9153 * 0.5 = $0.45765 / credit assuming half was saved during shutdown

So any reasonable credit would be about what they increased dues - potentially: $0.45. At least in my mind. I don't think it's enough that they would bother.

OKW going from 7.7341 per point last year to 8.3578 this year is about 8% increase. Ouch. Maybe my math is wrong?

Assuming that these 2020 dues are accurate, looks like an average (unweighted) increase of 5%, though only 4.34% at WDW resorts (excluding AUL, VBR, HHI, and VGC).

20212020% +/-
AKV$8.07$ 7.675.25%
AUL$8.35$ 8.330.29%
AUL**$6.28$ 6.260.32%
BCV$7.44$ 7.065.34%
BLT$6.90$ 6.584.86%
BRV$8.11$ 7.784.19%
BWV$7.81$ 7.376.01%
CCV$7.59$ 7.451.88%
HHI$9.97$ 9.109.59%
OKW$8.36$ 7.846.60%
PVB$7.05$ 6.793.89%
RVA$8.38$ 8.310.88%
SSR$7.11$ 6.775.04%
VBR$11.23$ 10.1310.87%
VBR**$8.86$ 8.0010.70%
VGC$6.99$ 6.605.95%
VGF$6.81$ 6.563.84%

Could this years increase possibly be due to the $15 minimum wage they were working towards?

The union contract applicable to most on-site employees had another $1 per hour increase effective Oct 2020, which has a significant effect on the 2021 budget. That does not put everyone at $15 an hour, e.g., Food and Beverage workers moved up to $14 while housekeeping moved to $16 in Oct. Florida voters just approved a minimum $15 an hour minimum wage provision on the ballot, But that should not have an effect yet because it provides a few years to reach that minimum.

That makes sense, I was under the impression that there was another raise due in October of 2021 as well. I'm especially interested to see what happens with the FL provision and it's impact on dues. I've read they have until 2026 to fully implement, but a $10 minimum wage has to be implemented by the end of September 2021. I wonder if this has an effect on any third party contracting costs as well. I want the people who give us such a great time to be paid a good wage, but I don't fully know what disney actually pays the bulk of their employees.

Thanks for this! Looks like for RIV, it stayed small and I do wonder if that is because they still have To do a lot of estimates as it has no years worth of operation under its belt yet.

But the difference between it and all other WDW resorts closed, which I believe it pretty typical the first few years

Indeed, excluding Aulani the 4 smallest increases were for the newest resorts:

RVA (0.88%)
CCV (1.88%)
VGF (3.84%)
PVB (3.89%) - my home!

Poor VBR though. :(

Maybe Riviera had a couple years of built in dues increases after all.
A drop in Front Desk (.75 to .65) and transportation (1.14 to 1.05) helped offset what may be the most expensive housekeeping at WDW (1.51 to 2.19)
(VGF housekeeping is 1.63, SSR is 1.56)

As a note, it seems most/all front desk costs have been reduced. I guess online check in is good for dues.

The % increases at WDW are almost in almost perfect order of how recently the resort opened. A few swaps and BRV is on an island, but it’s really interesting.

If dues keep going up by these amounts (compound growth) as we have seen for 5 years, they will be getting unaffordable for many soon.
Exponential growth- we have all heard the term with Covid, well apply it to your dues too!

The only saving grace for me is that I bought a small contract many years ago resale and resisted buying additional points.
