Early this year, Teena was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully, due to early detection from her annual mammogram, this was caught very early. The cancer is non-invasive at this time, very treatable and the prognosis is excellent! Teena said it was ok to share this information with everyone, especially since she has some important advice to give. Over the past few weeks, Teena has undergone many tests and has spoken to a number of doctors. She was really getting the runaround when she was seeing a doctor in a local hospital who was not a specialist in the field of breast cancer. She was receiving a lot of misinformation and confusing treatment suggestions, so she decided to get a second opinion at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville this past week. Although the hospital is significantly further from her home than the first hospital, she has been getting a much better response and encouraging news about her treatment plan. The Mayo Clinic even found that one of the pathology results that came back positive at her local hospital was in fact benign. She really wants to stress the importance of being comfortable with the doctor who is treating you and to see an expert/specialist if at all possible.
Teena will be visiting with her daughter in Las Vegas next week and when she returns, she will have a couple more visits to the Mayo for additional tests and retests, and surgery likely in mid-March.
Im sure she would appreciate well-wishes as she goes through this process, but I know she is not looking for any sympathy or pity from anyone.
Thanks for listening and for your support!
