2009 Discussion-We'll make time fly by!

I know I can post here because you advance planners all understand...

I just booked our trip - July 18 to August 1, 2009 ::MickeyMo :yay:

My DH and sons think I am crazy to be this excited sooo far in advance :rotfl:

The planning continues :surfweb:

Do you think a correlation exists between the amount of time available to plan a WDW trip and the tendency to be a fanatical "commando" planner (insert military smilie here) ?

Heck if they think you are crazy for planning this "close" how do you think my family feels? Been planning since 2000

Oh and how does this feel for everyone

We will there at the same time !! :thumbsup2
glad we are not the only crazies to go in July
oh by the way- 472 days to go :rolleyes1

I've been planning our June 09' trip since around Christmas 07'. Now that we've put the deposit on our houses and have them locked down, I'm getting crazy about it. We still have 427 days until our trip but I feel like it's next week. I will probably get a little relief when I go to a conference at the Gaylord Palms next February. I will most likely bring the family and sneak off for at least a day or two to WDW!

Hi everyone, just checking in b/c I've been doing some more dining/itinerary thinking!! I've been thinking about Chef Mickey's - we did it for a "brunch" last year and loved that. I have it in the plans for dinner this year - as on our full MK day (when we did brunch last year), DD and I will likely be doing CRT lunch. I'm not a huge breakfast person, but I do LOVE breakfast FOODS (just not early eating) and I was already sad at the thought of missing a good brunch. So...now I'm thinking - what about a brunch on our very last day, right before we leave?????

I think that's a great idea! I like having a character meal to start off the vacation and to end the vacation. We did CM dinner on our first day and an 'Ohana "brunch" on our last day - very fun! :thumbsup2

Oh I understand - my 2007 trip had been in the planning stages since 2000! Everyone thought I was !

Absolutely!! :rotfl:

I love to hear from all of the advanced planners. Our last trip was in 2006 and I have been reading and thinking about going back since!

Dragitoff, thanks for the link to the house you rented. It is about $300.00 less than most of the others. I added it to my favorites list.

I also recommend starting and ending the vacation with a character meal. On our last trip, we started with Chef Mickeys and ended with the Pooh breakfast. It is sooo magical to see the kids interact with the characters.
Happy planning everyone and have a good weekend!!:goodvibes

Hey All 2009'ers. What do you think the "yearly" celebration will be for next year or what do you wish they celebrate?!??!

And I'm getting all excited!! Last time we visited MK in the AM, had CS lunch and then headed out for the drive home. I'm thinking - pack up in the AM, do MK 9-11 or so for one last "hurrah", then hop the monorail to CM for "brunch" at 11:30. Kids will get one last good visit in with the "big" characters, and then we'll take the monorail back to the Poly and leave right away. Would that be a good ending to the trip? We'd be plenty full and should be able to get a good 6 hours in before needing to stop for dinner. (We're thinking drive from 1pm-11pm, stop and sleep, and drive 9 hours the next day home). Only thing that worries me is that our CM brunch last time was mid-week. We didn't stand in any long park lines for those characters (though we did see Pluto with little wait) during the week, knowing that we'd be seeing them. Will I feel guilty not letting the kids see Mickey and Minnie sooner if lines are long? Or if I "plan" some character meets earlier (I didn't really pay attention to where they would be last time, again, knowing we would see them), will we get luckier?? We did see the biggies our last night - at the Epcot Character Connection - with next to no wait and it was great. Maybe I just need to find the times for that and get there when it starts on our Day 2?? Should I do CM's earlier in the week, not leave it for the end??? What do you all think???

Sorry for the rambling - I'm thinking as I type here!!

Here's what I'm thinking Itinerary-wise:

Friday, May 1 - arrive in Orlando probably evening and stay off-site

Saturday, May 2- Check in early at Poly and hit MK for opening. Back to Poly when room is ready for naps/swimming. Dinner at Kona and evening at the resort settling in. Wishes, EWP, etc.

Yes on hitting MK first - gives me that happy feeling :goodvibes We are taking my mom and dad for their first trip in March 2009 and my mom wanted to go to AK first - no way - I told her it isn't Disney until you are walking down Main St and seeing the castle!!

Sunday, May 3- Epcot at opening until about 1, Poly for nap, swimming. Dinner at Crystal Palace and MK in evening. Spectro??

We had breakfast at CP and loved it - we are having breakfast there again this time - i LOVE pooh and my mom LOVES eyeore - great choice!! We didn't get to see the Spectromagic Parade last time, it's a must do for this next trip!!

Monday, May 4 - Animal Kingdom at opening til 1, Poly for nap, swimming. Dinner at Mama Melrose's, DHS for evening, Fantasmic

Sounds great - something else we didn't get to do last time - Fantasmic - another must for this trip!

Tuesday, May 5- MK at opening. DD and I do lunch at CRT (OOP), DH and DS do CS. Relax in the evening, do CS dinner OR depending on Wed. (see that), do a TS dinner - no idea where!! Probably hang out at Poly for evening. (This is where I was originally thinking CM dinner....)

Good "break" day for some relaxing :thumbsup2 Another thing we didn't do last time but want to do this time. We also want to resort hop to see where we want to stay next. We did dinner at CRT and really enjoyed it!! We are having lunch at CRT our first day this time

Wednesday, May 6- Blizzard Beach (hopefully there will be EMH!) till 1 or so. Back to Poly. TS dinner in Downtown Disney. I'm waiting to hear more about T-Rex. Assuming it's open - I know DS would LOVE this! We'd likely pay have to pay OOP for that for dinner - and then could do a TS dinner on Tuesday. If for some reason it IS included on the DDP, then Tues would be a CS dinner (which is FINE!! We'll have 2 CS to use, and DD and I eating the big lunch at CRT - probably could just use snack credits!) Evening shopping at DTD.

Ahhh shopping - one of my favorites :thumbsup2 We are doing DTD once with my mom and dad and eating at Raglan Road and then hitting PI just me and the hubby.

Thursday, May 7 - Open day - return to where we want to go!! More time at AK, DHS, or MK? Even Epcot. We could even split up 2/2 here depending on what the kids want! Poly for naps, swimming. Dinner at LeCellier, evening at Epcot, Illuminations.

Sounds like a great final day!!!! We MISSED our Le Cellier dinner reservations during our last trip!! We were so upset!!!! We are going to book it again for dinner in March and I vow to make sure I keep it this time!!!!

Friday, May 8- check out at Poly, MK opening to 11, Brunch at CM???? On our way home by 1 PM or so.

A CM would be a great way to end a vacation :goodvibes

***Of course all actual days are subject to change based on park hours, show times, EMH, and CRT availability!!!***

So, after all that... any thoughts or suggestions?? I'm open!!! And, if we end up paying OOP for both CRT (will definitely pay OOP) and T-rex, any thoughts for a 6th TS credit place?? I was strongly considering Ohana's - but not with the menu changes. Could really be anywhere as we don't have evening plans for Tuesday night.

I'm really liking having Thursday morning/early afternoon totally open to do whatever we want to return to or missed. Last year this was our AK day, but neither AK nor DHS were huge hits and with the kids getting older (staying up later, esp. if DS takes a nap!), I'm thinking we can get the "biggies" in at both on Monday. They are adding more stuff (Toy Story) and we'll be able to do more (heights), so I wouldn't be surprised if we head back to one on Thurs. Anyways....

Really so odd this CM idea came to me today - I haven't really been doing any planning!!

Thanks for any input!! This is the planning stuff I really love!!

Have a great trip!!!! It looks like you love to plan just as much as I do!! Too bad the schedules of park hours, shows, and EMH's don't come out a year in advance!!

We have decided to add a trip in January 2009. We will be at SSR from Jan 1- Jan 10 as well as our cruise in March 2009.

I already have a plan for March 2010 at AKV with the friends we went with in March of this year.

Thanks for all the input, Disneymooner!! I do love this planning stuff! We have not done Fantasmic yet either - DD was still scared of fireworks the last time we went so we skipped it. She actually started to get over that fear while in WDW - watching Wishes from the Poly beach was far enough removed for her and she enjoyed them. Now she loves 'em! My parents used to come babysit her on 4th of July so we could go - they're actually a little sad they don't do that anymore!

LeCellier is soooooo good!! Hope you make it there this time! We did it for our last night meal last year and it was great!!

Okay we have narrowed it down to Nov 28th-Dec 5th or Dec 6-12th. The 28th is my son's bday (and my mom's so she might go) but I am afraid of Thanksgiving crowds and the taping of the Christmas Parade. Does anyone have any idea of the impact those have? :confused3

Input needed. We are booked Jan 24-29, 2009, I just found out that SuperBowl is Feb 1. Do you think the Orlando airport will be extremely busy on our departure and secondly do you think ppl will be vacationing at disney days prior to the big game? For those that dont know Superbowl will be in Tampa. I am thinking maybe busy airport on departure day, but my husband said we can tell Disney Express our flight is actually an hour or so earlier than really scheduled so we can arrive at the airport with a good bit of extra time. Your input and expertise is appreciated.

Hi!
I have not read to see if anyone responded to you on this. But on our last trip we were there from 1/21-2/1 and the last few days we were there it got really busy. I cannot recall if the Super Bowl was during our trip...I just think the first part of Feb may get a surge of visitors. I would go that time of year again in a heart beat! It was far less crowded than any other time I have been (Sept/Oct and Nov/Dec).

It seems like more and more people are going to Disney World. They are promoting the Year of a Million Dreams like crazy. That, and people are seeing that it is the best place to vacation!

I know we're going next year, probably around April. We want to avoid Easter (Easter Sunday is April 12th next year) and was thinking of going the 18th-25th.

Now I'm second guessing that it is still too close to Easter that the crowds will still be heavy and the costs will still be high.

If we push it back a week-25th-2nd of May, we'd be leaving WDW on my bday, which seems a bit depressing. Plus, the idea that one person gets to celebrate a bday at WDW while the rest don't does not seems fair.

WWYD?

May is when we would love to go! I have heard that it is a wonderful time...right before all the kids are let out for summer and after the Spring Break and Easter crowds are long gone. Plus, the Flower and Garden Festival will be going on.:dance3:
Well, my take on the birthday thing is to celebrate away! They will all be there having fun, too, along with the birthday girl!

The best way to cure your depression on departure day is to start planning another trip on your way home.:cool1:

We were there in FEB - I think it was 2007 - when the superbowl was in FLA (I think Miami). Anyway - it was very crowded - lots of football fans apparently took a vacation at WDW, too. Make sure you get to the parks prior to opening so you can get a lot done during the morning. Crowds seemed to get worse at the lunch hour approached. I can't say anything about the airport because we drive to WDW.

This is the 5BR we got. Honestly, you can't find a 4BR for the rate we got this one for.

The owner is very nice and helpful.

We got some amazing news last night. Part of that trip is my baby brother (22) and his wife, who will be turning 21 while we're down there next year. He hasn't been since he was probably 8 or 10 so alot has changed. She hasn't been since she was a little kid and only remembers Figment from Epcot and one or two things from MK. Anyways, they found out yesterday they will have a new addition making his/her first Disney trip! We're so excited!!!! That now makes.....24 on our trip and we actually have 4 more of our friends from church interested!

That is a nice place! I was checking out the prices...not too shabby for what you get.:thumbsup2
Are you planning the trip for all 24 people??

Garden Grill is a great Character meal. It was really yummy food and the character interaction was AWESOME!!

I love your itinerary! You have inspired me to try my first rough draft...just for fun.;) I am a bit excited about the trip...that is almost a year and a half away.

Woo hoo! That is a looooong trip! LUCKY.

There is nothing wrong with being a commando planner!

Heck if they think you are crazy for planning this "close" how do you think my family feels? Been planning since 2000

Oh and how does this feel for everyone

I like that!

I love to hear from all of the advanced planners. Our last trip was in 2006 and I have been reading and thinking about going back since!

Dragitoff, thanks for the link to the house you rented. It is about $300.00 less than most of the others. I added it to my favorites list.

Happy planning everyone and have a good weekend!!:goodvibes

I agree with you on the character meal when the trip begins and ends. We try to do Crystal Palace for dinner on our last night.

Hey All 2009'ers. What do you think the "yearly" celebration will be for next year or what do you wish they celebrate?!??!

That is a good question! I may have been imagining it but I thought I heard something about Magical Celebrations or something like that. I could be wrong (most likely:rolleyes: ).

Just thought I needed to get on the boards and see what is going on with other 2009ers. It just seems so far away the last few weeks, I have just had to put vacation on the back burner. This morning though I woke up and it was SNOWING,since I cann't escape the snow physically I needed to escape it mentally, so I have been busy reading my passporter and taking notes and now I am getting caught up on TGM and Disboards. This really has done wonders for me, now I keep thinking that I have less than a year to plan:scared1: :scared1: and I have to decide what ADR's I need to make, decide what parks on what days (can't wait for park hours to be released), buy plane tickets, book our resort and on and on and on. It really has renewed my spirit and caused some excitement around here, now I am going to watch the planning video for the hundredth time.

LeCellier is soooooo good!! Hope you make it there this time! We did it for our last night meal last year and it was great!!

No problem!! I love planning - I'm helping a friend of mine plan her first trip to WDW with her new hubby and his 11 and 12 year old right now for June 2009!! YAY!! Even more for me to do!!! And I VOW to make it to Le Cellier this trip :worship:

Ok fellow 09ers - do we have *tentative* ADR's planned yet??? My 180 days opens up the first part of September and I'm in the process of narrowing down mine :goodvibes
