Oh, and I got a new birth certificate for my daughter today with no problem! We have named our 1/14 cruise the "Magic of Procrastination"! :teeth:

REALLY!?!??!?! WOW! The principal wanted to require all teachers to be at every meeting but the board stepped in & told her that in the past we just needed a rep from each grade. It is noted on the minutes which grades are represented. Also, if a grade doesn't show up....guess who is assigned the next not so fun job/project? ;) That happened a couple times last year & I think the message got out. With the PTO we need to have 10 people there to vote for a quorum so having the teachers there is necessary for us to get anything accomplished.

I know when DD11 started school there was a lot more involvement and a lot more people at meetings. We have a lot of members, but I think they are basically donating the money for dues. Things have slowed down considerably and they rotate the days meetings are on which has made it hard for me to attend lately. They wanted me on the board this year, but my husband would flip if I did. I just got on the board for our local Little League and haven't told him yet. ;) I would love to search around for ideas from other PTAs on the net, but I just don't have the time and I have to say no sometimes. :teeth:

I am correct that we do NOT need passports for this cruise, right? I have mine and DH has his, but kids don't and for the cost, I wasnt going to do it. I know any cruise we take after this we will need them, but we're okay, right?
Ok guys we don't have are passports. We just use Birth Certificates in the past. I know we don't need them for this cruise but, should we just get them? What do you guys think? The only other place we travel to is Hawaii and you don't need them there. Then again if we do get them that makes it so much easy just to go on that trip around the world when I win the Lotto. :teeth:

Thanks for all the stories everyone. Guess we aren't too bad when you start hearing about others. We get about 15 or so parents at our PTO meetings...but we do reps from the teacher group also. And 40 volunteers out of a group of 400 or so families isn't terrible. I almost want this to be cancelled just so we can say to all those families who do not sign up for stuff - "see, we told ya we couldn't have it without more help"...

Mark, do you have your reservations already? I can see if I can get you the promotional deal at the Westin if you want - not sure what the offer is now, but we got 5 nights/6 days, plus $185 car rental credit, plus $75 resort gift certificate for $779 - at the Westin that's a great deal. I think if you're not an owner you have to go through the presentation but if you're looking that might not be so bad - if you're interested, PM me and I'll get your info from you and see if I can wrangle you an invite. April might be a bit soon, but you never know.

Wendy
Wendy,
We do have Res. all ready. But we could all ways cut a couple days off and stay there. Did you guys look at the Marriott Ocean Club? That looks like a nice place. What do you think?
Mark

I vote for not getting the passports, Mark. Why spend that money until you need to...especially when it comes to the kids.

wow, catching up took a half hour, with out typing any responses.

Jordan, what else can one say, you already know that your aunt is in a good place.

We're all so chatty that I never found out -

what are all the changes in the kids clubs? So far, I know there is Ocean Quest, I've heard you can't do drop off w/ supervised activities on the first night and that they have moved the kids show to Thursday night.

Anything else I need to be aware of ?

Yes, that is correct. I have put more info on that thread too. The other big thing is that the PJ party has been moved from Pirate Night to the other night that we are in port so the kids don't have to choose between the two activities. :) I think that this is a great one!

Bumping for BuzzBoyMom. :) I didn't ignore you.

I agree, for a a family of four it could run about $400 once you take pics, etc. I say save the $$ and get a massage with your DW in the new spa villas on the Magic :teeth:

We do not have passports. We have never found it to be a hassle to use BC. Next year, of course we will have to get passports.

We obviously survived our "Examination" with the IRS. :faint: Actually it was our DD who had to go, but DH did her taxes with Taxcut software. She knows nothing about what he did, she just gave him the numbers, so we went with her to see what the problems were. All is well, the gentleman we talked with was actually very nice and he is sending it forward recommending "No Changes". :worship: Whew! He actually gave us some great tips for future filings. ::yes:: We have never had to visit IRS before and after all the horror stories one hears we were :scared: . I guess as long as you are being honest there really no need to be worried about explaining what you have done. Her taxes were flagged because the software put one source of income on the wrong line, but of course we did not know that when the notification came to please visit them.

Just to say, we understand the school/scouts/little league orgainizing activities. We too where the parents always there and we both worked full time and for several years DH was going to college full time (18-19 units) also. I REALLY would get upset when parents would say "I can't because I work." You got kids, you need to make the time.

We are past that now though. Just Grandma and Grandpa off to Disney with the kids or just being guests at the band concerts now. Lovin' it! :teeth:

Now that sound good! I really need to go to a Dr. my back is killing me today. :headache:

Surviving the IRS, that's got to be a relief! :flower:
I just got back from the "city"--Des Moines. We had got a new laptop this fall and they forgot to install the real version of virus protection, my trial was going to run out on Friday so I went up to have that installed. Yes, it is nice to have a fast computer and be able to be in any room in the house. Our desktop is from 1999 and it still does everything but it is slooooow compared to this one. We had a Dell laptop for 13 months but as soon as the warranty ran out it wouldn't take a charge from the adapter. The adapter port was attached to the circuit board, it would have taken $1800 to fix it. Dell said that even if the computer was still under warranty that wouldn't have been covered because it's considered customer abuse. Needless to say, our new laptop is not a Dell. While I was in Des Moines, I found lots of bargains on winter clothes. We were at first going to skip formal night and go to Palo. I'm not the "formal, dressy" type, but I found a dress marked down from $140 to $40. I guess we can go to formal night now. I also went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and bought pop-up hampers, and an over the door organizer. I think I'll start packing tonight. :rotfl: Just kidding, as my husband keeps reminding me, I have a little bit of a wait.

That reminds me...Jordan, did you ever go see a chiropractor? Do you see one, Mark? It is time for me to go for an adjustment so that my back doesn't get too bad.

That does sound good. I don't know if I hurt it at work or the gym? Well I hope it just works it way out. I did not sleep well last night. O well.....Bahama mama....Bahama mama..... Bahama mama....
Ok I'm better! :rotfl:
