((((HUGS))))

Hun! I know EXACTLY what you are talking about!!! :( Unfortunantly apathy is too widespread in schools today. I didn't even have a volunteer coordinator at the time of our carnival. The principal asked me to take on that job too but I told her that I had already maxed out my salary potential in the school. ;) I had a terrible time filling spots BUT it was much worse when people who had signed up didn't show up. :( If you are going to sign up but not show up why even waste your time filling out the form?!?!?! OY! I could go on & on about that. :( We offered volunteers a ticket for a free meal (slice of pizza, cup of soda, chips). They got it when they showed up & picked up their packet with nametag. One thing that we are going to do differently next year is send the slip for the meal home with the info in a letter beforehand BUT make them validate it when they report to their station. ;) I only had 3 other people to help me set up the decorations & everything else that day. Thankfully the principal & cafeteria manager agreed to have the kids take their lunches back to the classrooms that day so that we could start setting up the cafeteria right away. I was hanging decorations for two weeks before that. We had an auctions too. Thankfully that isn't until next October for me again. I hope that everything comes together & you have a great turnout. The most important thing is that the kids have fun! :) Try to remember that. :) Do you have a military base nearby? They have a rental place at ours & we rented the moonwalk very cheaply ($75 I think it was) and several other game set ups too. DH works for the government so we could do this but there should be someone in the school who would arrange this for next time.

I can't beleave there were so many pages to read this morning. My 6 year old said, Mom will you ever get over this thing?
Jordan, Sorry to hear that, At least there will be no more pain.
And with you taping your winning game- anytime they are loosing you can turn it on and make them win in the end.
Gotta go check the airfare..
MrsMork.. thanks for the bookingbuddy sight it was so much better then doing all those websights.

---- can you believe with over 585 students in our school (not sure how it equates to number of familes)...I only got 40 people to sign up to help for our carnival?!!!

Karen--Unfortunately, I can beleive it. We had a Girl Scout leaders meeting last night. The hot topic was the lack of parental involvement. We have two troops of little brownies with 15 girls each we are asking that one parent be at each meeting to help the leader, it's a two hour commitment once during the school year. But, NOOOO, everyone is to busy, can't take off work two hours early. They think Girl Scouts = free day care. It stinks!! I hope your parents realize that no help means no carnival.

Good luck with it, I'm sure it will all turn out bt in the meantime mega stress for you.

Unfortunantly no help usually just means that you ahve a very stessed out & cranky coordinator by carnival time. :( Have you ever done this kind of thing before? I hadn't & was in for an even ruder surprise after it was over with. What a let down to begin with. Then there are the complainers...yes those who wouldn't lift a finger to help you & never will do not hesitate to start criticising every little thing. :( I finally started carrying a notepad & pen with me. When someone started doing this I handed it to them & told them that suggestions & assistance before an event are much more helpful so sign up for the next one. ;)

I LOVE IT!!! I'm already prepared for those complainers, but I love your idea! Glad some of you can relate. And no, Lisa, this is my first time doing such a large school event. And to think I took it on with the threat of "If no one volunteers we have to cancel the carnival"....and it made me feel bad for the kids. But, I'm finding my happy place.... :flower2: and I will be just fine.

Hey - speaking of happy places - that was my 1,000 post on the boards!! Glad it was with all of you!!!

Hey, congratulations on hitting 1000, Karen! Good morning all.

I am off to visit our friendly IRS office with DD this morning...... :scared1: Hope we return!

Good morning all I hope you all have a great day. I'm off to take the kids to school. My 5 year old is having a play date after school so I better start cleaning.

ROFL! :) I don't know how I lived without cable high speed internet. The first computer we were given was a dino! 100Mhz & moved at a snail's pace. I had it on all day & would point & click thru all the rewards programs all day long earning those GCs slooooowly! LOL! We went first class with a faster computer but only upgraded to high speed last summer. WOW! IDK how I would deal with the server busy messages all day if I still had dial up. :) Sometimes it is a little slow for me...then I have to remind myself what we dealt with before. LOL!

My horrible typing should improve now that the computer desk is reset! :) :) :) Typing 80 wpm+ didn't do too well while balancing the keyboard on my knees for some reason. Now I need to get lunch & hit the grocery store. It's been a couple weeks so I really need to go.

Do you think that we are kidding? Unfortunantly two of us lost our cameras to the water on that cruise. :(

I'm sorry Lisa :upsidedow . How in the world did 2 of you ruin your cameras??

I have 150 slots to fill with the games, food, prizes, etc. I almost cried today when my volunteer coordinator told me that. I know we're all busy parents, but if you want these events at the school, ya need to give up 1 silly hour!!!

We have over 2000 students in pre K thru 6 in our district. There are about 20 who come to PTA meetings and about the same that help out for ANYTHING! When we have school parties, it has to be simple because there are not enough volunteers. :(

Well, you have already heard the walking off the pier story thanks to Cristi. She had the camera in her backpack & when she went under the water...it did to. This was in St. Thomas I believe. On Friday afternoon at CC DH & DS went for a bike ride & somehow when they were taking a break DH dropped our camera in the water. :( It never worked again...but all of the pictures (even the one he just took) were fine on the card. Luckily, when we got home I found the same camera on sale for $100 less than what we had paid in June...when we had to replace the camera that was stolen on our WDW trip.

Now THAT is pathetic! :( We might have 1-2 parents at the PTO meeting each month, otherwise it is just board members & teachers. I guess that we are doing pretty well with our turn out since we only have 400 kids.

Teachers?? You get teachers at your meetings? We only get our teacher rep to come! I think most are afraid to be bombarded by parents. Little do they know there aren't any parents there to bombard them!! :rotfl:

I hope you have better luck with your new camera Lisa. Hopefuly you will have it still by Dec! :goodvibes I'm glad neither of you lost your pictures! It's all that pixie dust :wizard:
