10/4/08-Buccaneers Take the West! Cruiser List in Post #1

We are going to the hospital in a few minutes to see Katie. She is improving slightly every day. She is completely out of oxygen so that is positive. Her vomiting has stopped so that is good as well. The things we still need to worry about are : she won't eat and she still cannot move her back legs. While the eating part probably has to do with the fact that she is doped up on high doses of pain meds and Valium. So, she is pretty much as high as a kite!
Some dogs recover quickly from spinal surgery, others take more time. It looks like Katie is taking her sweet ole time moving those darn legs! The vets say it could take weeks for her spine to heal and the swelling to reside. So, we are just taking it day by day & see what happens.
I really appreciate all of you taking the time out of your day to ask about us!
Thank-you!

Glad to hear the positive report! Her back muscles and hips may still be to sore to move much, then add the swelling... she probably just needs more time to heal.

Really glad to hear the positive news. We'll keep a positive thought untill she is home for good. Keep us posted. Lois

Katie was discharged today.  :cool1: :cool1:
We have a few rough weeks/months ahead of us and we are willing to do whatever it takes to get her walking again. She has another acupuncutre appt on Friday and she starts rehab on Monday.
Katie was getting her legs massaged from the nurse this morning and must have had enough because she pulled her legs away-all by herself!! :yay: Its the litle things she does that make us happy.

Thanks for thinking of us and praying for Katie. We appreciate our kindness more than you'll ever know!! :cloud9:

I am very glad that I started on packing/organizing my cruise stuff last week. Chris just laughed at me and told me I was too early but now I am glad I have a jump start on it.

Jacquelyn - that is wonderful news about Katie. She will recover better form home. Just don't let her get away with anything - SOOO easy to do for those we love (human and animal).

Jacquelyn,

I'm so happy to hear the good news. With your love I'm sure she will rebound in time!

I'm in Shreveport again. Nate, my 15 month old grandson, fell and broke his colar bone last Friday night. I came up to keep him home from daycare while mommy and daddy work.

Poor baby, he's been through so much, with getting tubes in his ears, cutting 5 teeth at one time and now this!

Thank God it happened before the cruise!

Oh Denise... that is too bad. But luckily they heal quickly when they are that young. Avery broke her foot when she was 3. She was only in her cast 2 weeks!

Jacquelyn - Glad to hear that Katie is home. Best place to get better.

Denise - Poor Nate. How is he doing? Poor little guy.

I am off for a girls' getaway weekend with my friend, Sue, and my precious goddaughter, Alyssa, who has Down syndrome. Our hotel destination would be fine for Alyssa, but we are going to the beach on Friday and shopping and eating out and having fun. Lyssa has been on two Wonder cruises! She loves the "big boat".

Have a great weekend, everyone.

Jan

Glad Katie's home. Hopefully, she'll recuperate faster at home since that's familiar.

Jan, have a wonderful time!

My first two weeks of school have been really good. I have some of the sweetest kids on my team. I'm really looking forward to spending this year with them and working together.

I think I'm going to hit the bed. 5:15 comes mighty early in the morning, :)

Just a little nudge up to page one. Hope everyone had a good day. Tomorrow if FRIDAY!!! We have to take Drew's school stuff down to him and then I am headed to Ohio to see my Mom, returning to MI on Tuesday.

Hi Everyone
Just checking in...almost at the end of another week and only one more until the new school year starts here. :teacher: I have started printing some magnets for our stateroom door and the countdown has definitely started. We also purchased material and supplies for our FE. We are thinking that within a few weeks we will be able to start watching for our DCL package. In the mean time we are enjoying summer, doing the normal household stuff :laundy: and next weekend we have tickets to see the Cirque de Soleil show, Saltimbanco...should be fun!
Hope everyone is doing well (or improving)...we are thinking of you!
Wendy

The time is going to go very quickly until it is our turn. I can't beleive we fly five weeks from tomorrow for the WDW portion of our trip. I think I am in pretty good shape - got my magnet paper, just need to get some printed and I picked up a few other goodies as well for our door.

For anyone shopping - Land's End has a pretty good sale going on with their summer items. I picked DH up a couple shirts and a pair of slacks for what I thought was a good price.

Good news - Drew made the roster for the Alma soccer team! But, the roster contains both the travelling team as well as the reserve team (which is where I figure he falls). He seems pleased so we shall see how the season progresses.

Jacquelyn - how is Katie? Better each day I hope. Every time I pet my dog, I think of her and say a little prayer.

OK - guess I best get busy here, the sooner I get started the sooner maybe I can be finished. Have a good weekend - I will try to check in from Ohio.

Hi everyone-
6 weeks from today Chris and I will be in Florida!! It certainly cannot come fast enough for us.

Katie "big girl" Wetzel update:
Katie is doing better every day. She had her second acupuncture treatment today and starts rehab on Monday. A little progress every day is what will get her back to her fiesty self. She has 2 more acupuncture treatments scheduled for next week. It seems the pneumonia is gone. Her breathing is back to normal, which for a Frenchie is snoring, snorting and grunting!! She has been barking at our neighbors today and has been giving Buddy the "evil eye." We just need to give those back legs some time to regain their functions, which the vert today said about 8 weeks.

Hope everyone is doing well & busy planning for the cruise.

We will be meeting soon enough and again, I hope you all know how your kind words helped us get through this horrible time!

Thank-you Fellow Buccaneers!! You are a wonderful group of people!!!
