The question is would I be able to bank points for a cancellation if the first day was within the banking window and the rest of the days weren't.

Example: June use year and I have to bank by the end of January. Can I book a 7 night stay beginning January 31, cancel it 31 days out and bank those points? Same question for a stay that starts February 28th, since cancelling 31 days out puts me before the deadline.

Just sitting here at VGC waiting for my husband to get out of the restroom and thinking about all the scenarios for trips years from now. 😀

As long as you cancel the reservation by the last day of your banking deadline, you can bank all of the points used in that reservation. Banking doesn't have anything to do with how the points were used before the reservation they were used in was cancelled. So, you could even book a stay for mid-May, cancel it on or before January 31st, and still bank the points.

Awesome. Next challenge is to see how long I can retain that information. 🤣 I actually think I'm going to remember it.

Your obaservation about February is a good one: Most people talk about "four dangerous months" for any given use year. But, because of holding restrictions, there are really only three dangerous months---the last three are those in which you could cancel outside the holding window but still have unbankable points.
