Finding travel buddies

Do you have friends or other family who would be interested in going? For trips DH doesn’t want to on I often travel with my BFF or my cousin. But I have traveled with other friends. I recently did a few nights in NYC with 2 friends and DH went deep sea fishing with a few friends a few weeks before my trip. Would you be interested in a solo trip? I’m not sure I would want to travel with a stranger but with the internet I’m sure it’s possible.

I do have other family that would go but I'd have to pay for everything and that gets expensive.

My DH is a scuba diver and often goes on trips that would have nothing for me to do. I have done many solo trips to WDW and Universal. I am taking my first solo cruise in the fall. Some cruise lines are putting in accommodations specifically for solo cruisers. It may not be your thing, I started slowly with a 4 night trip to WDW about 10 years ago and have been doing more ever since.

I tried meeting up with another solo traveler on my last trip but we just didn't vibe so I continued on doing my own thing. Later on met some locals former CM's in line and ended up going out with them that evening (my last day). I prefer to go solo and if I ever join the dating pool again then I'm going to make sure like my last 2 relationships, they enjoy going to the parks.

On their larger ships NCL Cruise lines has these great single cabins that open up to a lounge area. And each day there are posted activities and times where people can meet if they want to do an activity, meal, or excursion together. It looks to me like a wonderful option for solo travel. It's not a Disney cruise, but I think it's a great option for solo travel.

A combination of luck and being willing to take a risk…found my Disney bestie because I was planning a family trip and she loved the updates…a few years later, we agreed to try a trip together and it was a success. We have been traveling to Disney ever since… but we stick to separate rooms… We both need our space… And we are good at compromise… That’s not true for a lot of folks…btw I’ve cruised in the solo cabins on NCL… and they are great and great way to meet people if you were traveling on your own… But even if you don’t want to stay in the solo cabin… You still have access to the solo social meetings/ activities… I have also done a lot of solo travel, even to Disney… And I think that is rewarding in its own way…

This is not easy. For me, I would go to group dining like Teppan Edo and Biergarten to be able to have a conversation with someone. At other restaurants I would look for another solo diner and ask them if they would like to eat together. Find someone that is not at the end of their meal. Sometimes, this would develop into spending the day with each other. I made conversation in ride queues, too.

When there were Disney conventions it was easier to join up with another solo to spend the day with each other. Sometimes, it would be for multiple days.

It can be hard to coordinate the time with each other like some want to be early risers and others are not. Not everyone enjoys the same rides. If you are willing to be more of a follower, it may be easier to be with a stranger.

I only did this a couple of times.

Not sure I would be able to do that… I think I might wait until we’re basically both done eating, and ask if they are solo, and maybe want to share a ride.

Good luck with finding a friend to travel with. I know your pain. I love WDW much more than my DH so I usually want to travel more than he does. 😉

My kids and husband are no longer interested in Wdw or cruising. I still am. How do I find a travel buddy?
This is where your networking and communication skills go in, whether it’s digitally or in person. Don’t be afraid to reach out, here or anywhere, for the right partner in crime to enjoy Disney with.

Maybe doing a solo week trip if my DS can't go. DW has no desire to go to Disney anymore. I did two days solo last year. It does have it's perks, but I found it lonely when dining alone. Especially when it was on my birthday. It's nice to be able to do what you want. But it's also nie to have company to enjoy it with. Kind of on the fence. Hmmmm, does Disney have solo traveler buttons to wear? LOL!!!!

Yeah, I did the solo birthday dinner also. It was my 40th and the staff at Shula’s really let me know how much they valued my business as a party of 1. (Hint: they didn’t. Worst service ever)

Usually dining alone isn’t too bad and if I sit at a bar I have a better opportunity to engage others in conversation if I/they are up for it. Sometimes just chatting with a bartender can be fun. The one fellow at Geyser Point with the bandana (Josh?) was one of the best. I went back to get drinks from him 3 times on my trip

Yep, sitting at the bar is the way to go, it just feels normal, where as sitting in a booth or at a table with a bunch of empty chairs does not... but I still do it all the time. lol

Will be at WDW for my Birthday this year, and we'll see how that goes, but I will be with my GF, but she can run out of steam pretty quick, so maybe some in-room dining.
